Oak Island
Oak Island is the perfect blend of convenient amenities and restaurants, without being overrun with oversized T-shirt huts and overcrowded beaches. Selected as one of USA Today’s 51 Great American Beaches, Oak Island is one of the best kept secrets on the east coast! Only minutes from the historic town of Southport, Oak Island offers a blend of amenities and miles of open, unpopulated beach.
This family-oriented community offers a variety of activities for all interests, including:
• Great water-related activities, including fishing, swimming, kayaking on the sound side and boating.
• Several nearby golf courses, or for the avid golfer, Myrtle Beach is a 45-minute drive.
• Caswell Beach is a loggerhead sea turtle sanctuary.
• Spend a day in Southport, a historic coastal community with small town charm that offers restaurants, shops and deep-sea fishing.
• Take a ferry ride to either Fort Fisher Aquarium or to Bald Head Island.
• Wilmington (35 miles) has waterfront shops, the NC Aquarium and the North Carolina Battleship.
