About the property

This Moorish home (circa 1926) is located in the lush Hollywood Hills, yet it is just a few minutes walk from major sightseeing areas. Enjoy panoramic vistas of the city/canyon from almost every room of this tastefully renovated and spacious home.

The Space

We are excited to offer this unique newly listed property. The large house while being securely nestled in the Hollywood Hills is just a stone's throw from all that the city has to offer. We are merely a few minutes walk from The Hollywood Bowl, Mann's Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard, The Walk of Fame, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Madame Tussaud's and some of the finest eateries in Los Angeles.The home itself was built in 1926 and has been in our family since 1963. We have recently lovingly restored the property, preserving the charming Moorish architectural delights such as the castle-like roof top flourish, the original exposed beams of the high-ceilinged living room, heavy oak front door, mosaic tiled/hardwood floors, ornate cornices, an open fireplace, and a mature mediterranean style garden.

The master bedroom attracts plenty of natural light and has a newly refurbished hardwood floor and built-in closet space. The guest bedroom has a full bed, desk and chair, built in closet and its own shower en suite. There is also room for a blow-up bed should it be needed for a fourth guest. As well as the en-suite bathroom, there is a second private bathroom with a tub and shower. The recent acquisition of a tankless water system means that there is a constant supply of hot water.

The kitchen boasts a fully functioning antique Chambers stove which was used by ex-tenant Patrick Swayze. He and his wife rented the lower units of our house back in the 1970's prior to his starring role in 'Dirty Dancing.' He isn't the only claim to fame in our neighborhood. The area attracts a steady populous of stars, artists, writers, producers, and directors. You may bump into one or two of them during a hike to the local Runyon Canyon, a stroll along Rodeo Drive, or during dinner at one of the local restaurants.

A great Sunday morning adventure can be had at the Hollywood Farmer's Market where you can purchase locally grown organic produce and sample wholesome cuisine from the many vendors.

Despite all of these attractions, we wouldn't blame you if you chose to stay home with our high speed internet and flat screen T.V. or snuggled up with a book by the fireplace while lounging on our very own custom made vintage couch.

The house is completely detached on all sides and the front yard is tucked away behind a tall fence. It is an ideal place to sip morning tea while listening to the birds, and equally suited for a relaxing BBQ on one of the many warm evenings that we are privy to in this beautiful locale. The view from the dining room is so impressive that our guests have been known to stay seated long after eating to just gaze at the abundance of twinkling city lights.

Interaction with Guests

As the owners we live on-site, occupying the lower two units of our property. We are available to orientate guests to the accommodation, and answer any questions that may arise, but are equally happy to allow our visitors absolute privacy. We can be contacted by cell phone or email and after having lived in the area for more than a decade we are rather knowledgeable about places of interest for tourists as well as more remote places to venture for those who like to explore the outdoors.

The Neighborhood

There are so many things to cherish about our neighborhood. An evening's stroll during the Spring and Summer months will allow you to bask in the scent of night blooming jasmine and citrus blossom, to spot the odd coyote or deer and to appreciate the eclectic array of architecture. A Frank Lloyd Wright home is a short walk away, as is the High Tower neighborhood, a place that feels like an exciting peek into old Hollywood. The Carl Kay-designed duplex immediately adjacent to the tower was featured as Philip Marlowe's apartment in the 1973 classic 'The Long Goodbye.' This patch of land provides a nice vantage point from which to admire the southeast view of Hollywood. The historic neighborhood of Whitley Heights is visible on the other side of Highland Ave.

A favorite local haunt of ours is Yamashiro, a Japanese restaurant and hilltop gardens within walking distance of our home. Since the 1920s, Yamashiro has served as “Japan” in many films and TV productions, including 'Memoirs of a Geisha' and 'Sayonara' starring Marlon Brando. Beneath Yamashiro lies The Magic Castle, the private clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts, and advancement of the ancient art of magic.

Getting around

The airport, Universal Studios, and attractions in downtown Los Angeles can all easily be reached by metro. The subway station at Hollywood and Highland is easily accessible from our home, as is the 101 and the 10 freeway, serving downtown Los Angeles and the beach respectively.

Other Things to Note

We accept a maximum of four guests on the property and kindly request that our guests do not host parties at the property.
