About this property

A step back in time with the comfort of today. Not fancy but affordable.

The Cozy Cottage is an updated farmhouse with two bed rooms, a well equipped kitchen and two living /family rooms. Each room has its own air conditioner and the cottage is easily warmed by a furnace , room heaters or and electric fireplace. It has one complete bathroom and a half bath off the master bed room. There is a breakfast nook in the eat in kitchen. The kitchen is supplied with most small appliances, a microwave, and a full size range but no dishwasher. The old farmhouse has cable TV and WiFi for guests who like both old and new. While most things at the Cozy Cottage are compact the view and out side are generous. The Cottage sits on almost and acre of lawn and the owners aren't picky about parking on it you need the space. The whole front of the house is a porch complete with rocking chairs and tables that can make this the most popular living/dining room in the house.

Cute cottage
Very cute cottage… interior could use some updating however it is as advertised, a budget accommodation. Great location, beautiful views! Beds very very comfortable. Everything needed was provided just wish there was a clean sponge for each new guest as jo dishwasher and the sponge smelled at bit. Otherwise great property for the price!

About the host

Hosted by Curtis Absher

Host profile image
We purchased the old farm house so that we could update it and enjoy it while sharing in the care of elderly parents that lived next door. Curtis' Dad
built the neighboring home place in which Curtis grew up and he played with the boys that lived in the Poff house. So while location was the main incentive to buy the house there was also a sentimental facet. In those care giving years, we generally came for a week but sometimes those weeks got extended. When we got the house livable we were able to give the parents the privacy of their own home and we had a short retreat. We never had the illusion of making a 'purse out of a sow's ear' as local folks might say but we wanted to blend the past with the present as we furnished and decorated the cottage from attics, consignment and yard sales, and thrift shops. We wanted the cottage to reflect its surroundings and the people of the area. We selected photographs and paintings that featured Virginia artists and scenes that could be seen only a short drive from the house.
Occasionally a Kentucky picture or book may show up in the cottage, something that we bring from our Old Kentucky Home. But as a Blacksburg native and a Hokie, Curtis still has much loyalty to his Old Virginia Home.

Why they chose this property

The Cozy Cottage stands out because of its simplicity. There are some unique antiques and some plain old used furniture. But there is a blending of old and new; for example, the master bedstead is antique metal ( as is the rare find metal dresser) but it has an up-to-date memory foam mattress. The property used to be out in the country but now it is less than a 1/4 mile from Blacksburg's City limits. In minutes you can be in town or back out in the mountains. It is almost like having a mountain chalet with pizza delivery service. And no one has ever complained about not finding a place to park.

What makes this property unique

In addition to convient location the Cozy Cottage has cable TV, WiFi, a washer and dryer, an almost completely furnished kitchen ( no dish washer). Many guests have called it their home away from home. It is not fancy but it is homey!
