Overview

Photos and Description of the Nauvoo vacation house rental

Only a mile from the Nauvoo Temple, this is perfect for receptions and reunions.

The Hyrum Kimball Village is comprised of six homes in a park-like setting, with the ability to accommodate about 120 people! Two of the homes are restored pioneer homes with modern additions and amenities. The other four new homes are patterned after the historic pioneer homes. The new homes have identical floor plans comprised of 2,690 square feet (plus full basements) and sleep twenty-plus guests each. Each of the new homes have five bedrooms and six full bathrooms between the three levels. The two story great room with living area, dining area and large windows provide an excellent view of the pavilion and grounds. Each home is fully furnished and tastefully decorated.

A beautiful park-like area, located behind the homes, contains a large Pavilion that features two propane barbeque grills, as well as six foot tables and chairs for entertaining groups of over 100. The Village Pavilion has two fireplaces for an evening fire and roasted marshmallows, with one of the fireplaces placed on one end for a more intimate setting. The Pavilion has lighting and electrical outlets. The Village Pavilion can be rented in addition to any of the other homes in the Hyrum Kimball Village, however, there are no rest rooms in the Pavilion, and therefore a home rental may be required

Location

Nauvoo is an historic town established by the Mormons in 1839. It grew to be the largest town in Illinois, along with Chicago, with a population of 15,000 - 20,000 people. After the martyrdom of the founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, in 1844, Brigham Young led the Saints from Nauvoo to the Great Salt Lake over the Mormon Trail.

Only about 1100 people remained in Nauvoo after the exodus of the Latter-day Saints. In the 1960's a descendant of one of the Nauvoo pioneers purchased his ancestor's home and began restoration. Nauvoo Restoration Inc. was established and since then over thirty historic homes and businesses have been restored or reconstructed, and are available for free tours.

The Nauvoo Pageant is held every summer with thousands of visitors to the city to watch the performance of song and dance relating the Mormon history in Nauvoo.

In addition, the Nauvoo Temple was restored in 2002, and is modeled after the original temple which was destroyed by arson in the late 1840's, and later by tornado in the 1850's.

Visitors to Nauvoo enjoy the free tours and entertainment, where there is fun and education for the entire family! It is an extra treat to 'make your home away from home in Nauvoo!
