Lakeside cottage rental

Bedrooms 5
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Fall Rhapsody or Thanksgiving

The cottage is on Lac Sinclair, about 1 hour from downtown Ottawa. 5 bedrooms available, sandy beach, comes with use of a canoe, paddle boat and kayak, fire-pit by the lake, BBQ in the screened in porch so no bugs for dinner, wood stove in the basement along with a pool table, kitchen has electric stove, dishwasher and double sink, Keurig coffee and a drip machine and a refrigerator, (second refrigerator on the porch). Dining room table seats 10 people very comfortably and we have had 14 or more people without too many elbows being bumped. There is 1.5 bathrooms, sorry, a shower but no tub (although there is a lake…), washer and dryer in the basement washroom. It is on a well, so the water is very drinkable without having to worry about boiling. It is a four season place, so it is open in the winter too if you want to rent it later in the year. The price is 1500$/week, but please give me a call and we can discuss as this is the first year I am renting it out. I am asking for a 500$ returnable damage/cleaning deposit. You will get that back as long as there is no damage, undue cleaning required or noise violations/fines. Of course there are others on the lake so I ask that you consider my neighbours and not create a nuisance after hours. I also want to keep the place smoke free, there is a walk out area that is covered so smokers will not suffer too much even in the rain... Xmas/ New Years and Thanksgiving I will likely have special rates, and by special I mean higher. There may be a few extras as well, like firewood will be 200$ a face cord if you use a lot for bonfires. Add 10$ per night per person beyond 4 people for large groups.

What else can I say for now, there is space to set up a badminton net, and horse shoes or petanque if you prefer (have to bring your own balls or shoes), and a good size area for parking if required. Oh yes, the next door neighbor has a boat launch area that he has said we can use if you have a towed boat. Let me know about that beforehand so I can confirm though please.

For the winter, a little bit of a hill for tobogganing if you like. The lake does freeze over late in the season for snowshoeing and X-country skiing. Nice quiet location.

Recently added satellite TV.

Give me a call if you have any questions!

About Donald LeBlanc

59 years old, born and raised in Ottawa. I have 5 kids, mostly grown up, two in university now. I am an Engineer working with National Research Council Canada for the last 17 years. I consider myself a handyman and do most of my own repair and upgrade work myself. I live in Ottawa, about 1.5 hours from my cottage.

Donald LeBlanc purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Donald LeBlanc chose La Pêche

Good location for a large family get together. Shallow water and beach for kids. 5 bedrooms lets couples have their own spaces. Modern kitchen and screened in porch allows for the comforts of home while in the country setting. The lakes on the Quebec side are just beautiful with the hilly terrain. Its far enough from the city that you can actually see the stars and the milky way on a clear night. Clean air and very little light pollution.

What makes this cottage unique

I bought the place for the bedrooms, as I have a large family myself. But the thing that makes it great we find is the screened in porch. It makes such a difference not having to battle with blackflies, mosquitoes, wasps, and flys at dinner time. Overlooking the lake at lunch or dinner, and even having a coffee at breakfast when the lake is mirror smooth is such a wonderful experience.

Lovely spot

  • 4 of 5

The space was more then enough for the large group we had. Donald was super helpful and had everything we could have possibly needed ie: dishes, platters, pots ect. (we were there over Thanksgiving) games and movies galore.

The only negative was the amount of clutter lying around.

Owner's Response: I think the review is spot on. I need to remove some clutter that has accumulated with the passing of my father last year. That is the project for over this coming winter. This group left the place very tidy when they left. A good bunch of folks. Thanks Donald

Perfect for our group

  • 3 of 5

Donald was very helpful getting us started for our week at the cottage. We used the beach for a little swimming and lots of ball throwing for the dogs. The kitchen was well equipt for all our meals. Great selection of DVDs for our nightly entertainment.

Owner's Response: I like to get all my groups off to a good start. Cartherine and family left the place in a very good condition afterwards which is always very much appreciated. I hope to see them again in the future!. Donald

Great experience!

This is a very adorable cottage! Dont let its snall size deceive as there is a lot of open space. The back screened patio came in very handy for outdoor hang outs. Great owner as well, had a pleasure dealing with him. I very much recomend.

Decent Cottage & Lake

  • 3 of 5

We stayed for one weekend. Donald is good guy and very accommodating. The cottage itself is fairly large. Kitchen is upgraded with a huge table. So that was nice for meals. The beds could use an upgrading though. As well a thorough clean up of the entire property would make it a lot better. The lake is decent. A little tricky if you have an outboard as the bay is pretty shallow. But the water level was down almost a foot when we stayed. As well there are random rocks in the main part of the lake. Luckily we had someone with us who knew the lake.

All in all it was a decent get away for the weekend.

Owner's Response: I would call this a fair review. The outdoor spring cleaning was minimal this year as my father passed away at the end of June after a long battle with disease. I will be rectifying that this fall with a full yard cleanup. An upgrade to the beds is the next expense I will be dealing with using this years profits. I recently tossed some older chairs and replaced with a quality couch and love seat. The lake water level was down this year after the very hot summer and not too much rain, not something I have control over. I will however talk to the lake association and mention the rocks. My place does not come with a motorized boat, just a canoe, kayak and peddle boat, although my neighbour allows my renters to launch their own boats from his ramp. This is the first I have heard of the rocks but will do what I can in that regard. I do appreciate the feedback as it is the best way for me to focus my efforts at making the place more enjoyable for everyone. Thank you. Donald

Fun cottage!

  • 5 of 5

I spent three fantastic nights post-wedding at Donald's cottage. We had a great time and the cottage was fully equipped and accommodated our large group really well. We loved swimming in the lake, using the paddle boat and canoe, relaxing on the porch and barbecuing. Donald really went out of his way to ensure we reached the cottage as we were from out of town, and were comfortable. Highly recommend this cottage for a nice relaxing vacation with family or friends.

Great weekend

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful cottage to rent. The lake is quiet, it is easy to find, accommodates many people, and has the amenities you could need. The owner was very nice and was great for responding to inquiries. I loved that it was pet friendly and that I was able to book for just the weekend. I would definitely rent this cottage again.
