About the property

2 Bedroom, Loft, 1 Bathroom, Large Private Yard On Lake.

An authentic log cabin tucked away between birch and pine on the quiet side of Nelson Lake. We have one word for your cabin, "WONDERFUL". This cabin is so charming. It was very clean, welcoming, and sweet. The beds are very comfortable and everyone slept well. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook. Speaking of cooking, we caught numerous fish right off the dock. The family enjoyed eating our catch of the day. The dock was great. It was our morning spot for coffee. Thank you for allowing pets. Our dog loved the large yard. We took long walks on the tree lined roads with no traffic. The kayaks were such a hit. This is a very quiet spot with no traffic and few people. It was very relaxing and refreshing. We had a great time and hope to return again next year. Thank you for such a special place.

Awesome cabin in a peaceful secluded setting

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Northwoods Nest with another couple over the New Years holiday weekend. The cabin is down a road that is set away from some of the "busier" parts of the Hayward area which is exactly what we were looking for, but it was only a short drive to get groceries and there are several restaurant and bars right on Nelson Lake. Although it was very cold outside the cabin was nice and warm, always with warm water in the shower, and had 3 comfortable beds to choose from. The kitchen was well-appointed and had everything we needed for cooking, in addition to the charcoal grill which we used to grill steaks on NYE. The driveway was plowed the day after we arrived and the plow driver even gave us some fishing tips for the local lakes. We went ice fishing on the lake not far from the cabin and caught a lot of crappies and bluegills. There was TV with satellite service which allowed us to catch a Minnesota Wild game while we were there. We were very pleased with our stay and look forward to returning in the summer sometime!

Good, but know what you are getting into

  • 2 of 5

We love this cabin, have stayed here twice. It is quiet, isolated, yet close to town, and cosy. We were disappointed both times in the lack of basic supplies that are provided, the general nickle and dime-ing that you will experience. It is not all that apparent, but after a few days you realize this is just un-equipped. We stayed 3 days and were allotted one garbage bag, two rolls of TP, and one roll of paper towels. There was no dis soap as promised, no scrubbie for dishes. No salt/pepper, knife set is terrible. I know they don't supply that, but it seems silly not to provide salt and pepper or garbage bags (I get 250 garbage bags at Costco for $8). Our daughter had an accident in bed, and we stripped the sheets down to the plastic mattress protector, but were charged $50 for additional cleaning for some reason. Again, just a bit of nickle and dime-ing. Just keep all this in mind as you rent, and be prepared with everything you could possibly need to cook, as the kitchen is basically empty besides pots and pans. Bring some extra TP, and a sense of humor. It really is a great cabin, just managed a bit weirdly.

Owner's Response: It is very rare for us to charge a cleaning fee, and occurs on average about once a year or less. Cleanliness for all our guests is a top priority for us. The additional cleaning required in this case was significant and well above-and-beyond what we see after vast majority of stays. We genuinely want 100% of our guests to have a wonderful stay. We love sharing one of our favorite places with the world, and would be glad to answer any questions regarding what types of items are provided or to bring. Although we have literally filled a book with wonderful testimonials from our guests over the past few years, we believe in continuous improvement and will certainly take this thoughtful feedback into consideration moving forward. Sincerely, Brian and Sara

A great short weekend getaway. Fall colors were showing and very warm weather for the time of year.

Remote location with nice privacy. Cabin was very nice and had a great "cozy" feel to it. Our dog loved the open yard leading right to the lake!
