Great family reunion

  • 4 of 5

Great place for a family reunion. Typical south Texas ranch. But many needed extras: pool, pool table, shuffle board, etc. Plenty of room for everyone. Summer sleeping for 27. Also close to town. Had a fabulous time. Thank you.

The ranch is great! So much history. And so much to do and see.

  • 5 of 5

Although the property is a little dated, that only adds to the charm. It is a gorgeous hunting ranch from the 60's, and you can only imagine the stories the walls could tell....

There is so much room and space for everyone to hang out and do their own thing. Yet there are spaces where the whole group can gather and eat or just hang out and talk or play games. The pool area is large enough for all 25 of us to lounge and swim, and my teenagers had so much fun catching multiple large mouth bass in the river!

This was our 2nd stay at the ranch and we will definitely consider the property if we have another family gathering in the future.

Thanks for another wonderful stay of beautiful memory making!!

Perfect for a big family adventure

  • 5 of 5

While the facility is a bit ragged around the edges, it is large enough and has the kitchen equipment to suit the needs of a big group. The availability of zebras, antelope, etc., on the property make it a bit like a safari, and the very extensive taxidermy in the house was unique. Access to the house requires 4WD.

Wonderfull family reunion location

  • 5 of 5

Repeat stay was as great as the first time here. So many things to do and all the family loved it, from fishing , canoeing and paddle boat on the creek to swimming in the pool. Enjoyed game room and comfort of several rooms to relax and visit.

Time Capsule Fun for 20 people 2 years to 87 years old.

  • 4 of 5

My review in June 2015 says it all..... "It was a truly memorable stay and we plan to return and enjoy more of this precious gem of the Texas Hill Country as soon as we can." It rained most all the weekend, but no one even cared there was so much to do. If we weren't swimming in the sprinkles, we were in the game-room playing shuffleboard, pool, or ping-pong. Bring your own games. Our little ones were RARELY on their electronics. That in itself is a 5 Star review!!! Shuffleboard in the game room warmed up around 9 am and was hot until well after midnight. This is NOT an easy place to get in and out of but is what made it so charming. So bring all the food and beverages you can think of..... because once there you won't want to be running back and forth to HEB.... Another hint, be sure and either look up this place on line ahead of time or read everything on the walls. You CANNOT appreciate this place unless you know it's history. Do not expect a 5 Star Hyatt. Expect a 5 Star "perfect time capsule/museum out of the 60's".

But as our second trip to this most "unusual" destination, I will answer your basic question.

* Was the listing description accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc ? Yes, but this is bare-bones "amenities". See above.

* Was the property clean and well-maintained ? Yes, and had fresh flowers. George, the caretaker was totally available for any questions we had.

* Did the owner provide good customer service ? Caretaker was called twice and twice he was available immediately.

* Would you recommend this property to your friends or relatives ? Absolutely, but NOT if they were looking for luxury. This is a Time-Capsule. See above!

* What activities, attractions and restaurants did you like or dislike near by ? Totally the pool and tons of hiking to see the zebra, zedonk, longhorns, wild turkeys. Restaurants? Are you kidding..... brought in every ounce of food... Never left for 4 days.... Except the California son who had to make a What-a-burger run....
