Comfortable, clean, well-maintained, and appointed with basic household amenities, August Whim is the ideal summer cabin for families. The interior is bright and airy, the sun-deck spacious enough for lounging and family dining, and the brand new dock kind to bare feet and water toys.
Bedrooms – Two, each with a queen sized bed. The cabin comfortably sleeps four people, with room for two more on couches. When the grand kids visit, they are known to pitch a tent in the rumpus room or on the dock for almost-authentic 'camping'.
Bathroom – One. Equipped with vanity, commode, bathtub and shower. Please note, we are on a SEPTIC system. Only flush toilet paper; all other refuse to be deposited in the wastepaper can provided.
Kitchen – Standard refrigerator, stove, microwave provided. You will also find a coffee maker, kettle, teapot, and basic cooking and meal utensils, pots and pans. There are plenty of glasses, mugs, plates and bowls as well. Please bring your own tea towels and dishcloths, and all food items. You will find a gas barbecue (and propane) on the deck.
Unplugged – A basic t.v. and DVD player (and a few movies) are provided, but August Whim is largely 'unplugged'. There is no cable t.v. or internet. Please bring your own preferred DVDs, board or card games, books, cell phone, etc., if you wish.
On the Dock – You can easily moor a boat at the dock; there is a public boat launch at Texas Point (free), and private launches at Christina Lake Marina and Schulli Resort. Kayaks can be rented at Wild ways.
Waterfront – There is great swimming off the end of the dock, and in August (when the water level is low) there is a small sandy area at the shoreline. Please supervise children closely!
Maximum Capacity – Due to the size of the cabin and the nature of septic facilities, the maximum overnight capacity is SIX people; if you plan to have visiting daytime guests, please let your hosts know.
Located in BC's 'Boundary Country' between the Okanagan's heat and the Kootenay's mountainous terrain, Christina Lake is a favourite summer destination. Sunny summers (average July-August temperature is 23ºC or 74ºF) heat the water to bath-tub warmth, and give Christina Lake its title as the warmest tree-lined lake in British Columbia.
Power-boats and personal watercraft like Sea-Doos are permitted, but the lake is large enough for traffic-free sailing, kayaking and canoeing, swimming, and drifting.
Because August Whim's generous picture windows face eastward, sunrises at the cabin are a favorite time of day. Enjoy quiet mornings on the sundeck with a cup of coffee, a good book, and the sound of songbirds.
Evenings at Christina Lake bring light breezes, glorious sunsets, giant moonrises, and an escape from city lights for wondrous stargazing from the dock. Campers directly across the lake have been known to put on nightly fireworks shows, and you have a front-row seat for viewing from August Whim's deck. A midnight dip in the lake is certainly in order.
The old CPR line runs above the community of Christina Lake. Since the line's decommission, the rail-bed has been converted to a cycling and hiking trail.
Many parts of the trail are suitable for families to explore leisurely by pedal power, though challenging segments exist for the more adventuresome mountain biker.
