A quaint town, the oldest living English settlement in the Americas, with historical sights as well as charming walks and views of the island's eastern coastline. A visit to The World Heritage Center is well worth the small fee which includes an historical informative film and display of our town. St.George's has forts, beaches, small shops, pharmacy, churches, museums and The Bermuda Perfumery with a free tour! There are re-enactments and free walking tours in the town square twice weekly on Wednesday and Saturday and most days during the summer months. There is a truly wonderful Haunted History Walk which is a must see for visitors. St.George's is full of charm and history as this was our original capital city and the walking tours are wonderful and full of interesting facts about our town. Or you can take a road train tour.
The waters of the harbor and the ocean are crystal clear blue and aqua. Jet skis , canoes, sail boats are all for hire to help you explore the area.
You might want to take a glass bottom boat tour, or sail on a catamaran.
There is excellent snorkeling at nearby Tobacco Bay, as well as food and music. For divers Bermuda boasts some of the world's best wreck diving if you want more than fish. Our coral reefs are well protected and in excellent health.
Crystal Caves , which are close by, are open to the public, and there are other caves to explore and swim in which are not commercial.
If you enjoy walking, the old railway trail, a grassy path, takes you along low cliffs at the ocean's edge, and there are beach walks aplenty.
Explore some of the many forts around St. George, in a variety of designs they date from the 1600's to World War 11. Fort St. Catherine has excellent displays which are well worth the visit.
St. Peter's church, (now 'Their Majesties Chappelle' by Royal decree of H.M. Queen Elizabeth 11) is the oldest Anglican church in the Western Hemisphere, and people have worshipped on this site since 1609. It is a lovely old church with Bermuda cedar beams and furnishings, and plain glass windows which give it a very different 'feel' to most churches.
From the waterfront a ferry takes a scenic 40 minute route to the Royal Naval Dockyard in the west of the island.
The Dockyard holds the National Museum, shops, restaurants and a glass blower, among many other attractions, all in a setting of one of the strongest British forts of the 1800s.
Hamilton, our capital, has shopping, a fine Art Gallery, the Cathedral, and Fort Hamilton overlooking the town in addition to many varied dining experiences and shopping.
