Adorable quaint cabin.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the quaint cabin feeling with the wood burning fireplace. The location is close to Homewood. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked.

Wonderful lovely cabin

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay.

I do not think they allow pets, unless it has changed since we visited 2 weeks ago.

Comfortable and cozy

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very comfortable. We were 6 adults and three kids and there was enough space for everyone. The cabin was well stocked and the games were a nice touch. Everything was clean too. My only complaint is I wish there were more blankets.

Cozy cabin in a perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family very much enjoyed our stay at this Tahoma cabin. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook breakfast and dinner. Each of the bedrooms were very comfortable and both bathrooms were very clean. The two extra rollaway beds came in handy, along with the stacks of extra blankets and bedding.

We had a roaring fire going most of the time, as there was plenty of firewood. The kids enjoyed the abundance of games provided, and there was a variety to choose from, all through the age ranges.

The location of the cabin was perfect. A very short drive off the main road.

We went ice skating in South Lake Tahoe, sledding at Adventure Mountain and hiking at Emerald Bay. All in all a fantastic Holiday vacation.

Cute cozy cabin, internet issues

  • 4 of 5

The cabin felt very homey and rustic, it was the perfect place to be in! The bedrooms were cozy and nice. The kitchen was adequate, we were able to make home meals with ease. However, we encountered internet problems such as random disconnections over the course of our stay.

Owner's Response: Hi Shirley, thanks for the review and feedback regarding the internet problems. I do know that if too many people are on the WiFi at the same time it creates issues. I'll talk to my internet provider and see if anything can be done. Thanks again for staying with us and we look forward to having you back for your next vacation. Gary

Great home and location

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for the great price, prompt communication, and well-maintained cabin. It felt like we were stepping into a family's home instead of just a rental property. The information sheet was very helpful and we followed the check list closely.

My family (10 people + 1 dog) had a wonderful time at this cabin. There was plenty of space for us to sleep with the 4 queen beds and 2 roll away beds. The calendar showed that there was another renter checking out on the same day that we checked in. When we arrived, everything looked and smelled clean. There were enough towels and bedding for everyone and there were no complaints from anyone about the mattresses. There was enough space in the driveway for us to park 4 cars.

I have been in other rentals where only the bare minimum was provided, this was not one of those times. We knew that the kitchen would have supplies, but we brought our own pots/ pans and dishware just in case. We definitely over packed because this house had everything that we needed. There was a smart tv with access to cable. We forgot to bring a flashlight to take the dog out at night, but the house had flashlights too. Another bonus is that the house was a short walk to the lake. We went in the winter and would definitely consider going back in the summer for the lake access.

No complaints, but a few minor issues that we encountered... The internet was a bit spotty/ slow, but may have been due to all of us using the wifi. The way the house is constructed, the heat from the center of the house did not reach the downstairs bedroom. The upstairs had a space heater, but the downstairs rooms remained colder than the rest of the house. All things considered, this was a 5-star rental.

About Gary Gutowsky

I grew up in the Bay Area and my parents, my brother, and I have enjoyed vacationing in Lake Tahoe since the mid-60s. We bought the lot in 1972 and built the cabin ourselves in 1976. After retiring from the Air Force in 2011, my wife and I settled in the Sacramento area to be close to our kids and so we could spend more time at the Lake. Since then we have spent a considerable about of time at the cabin and love being there. When we're not there, I spend my free time volunteering with the American Cancer Society and Junior Achievement of Sacramento.

Gary Gutowsky purchased this chalet in 1976

Why Gary Gutowsky chose Tahoma

We love the West Shore of Lake Tahoe! That's why we've been coming up here as long as I can remember. There is so much to do here, or's up to you. One of my favorite activities is to walk down to the pier at Water's Edge in the evening and check out all the stars. It's amazing and so relaxing. Another fun activity is a bike ride around the neighborhood or through Sugar Pine Point State Park. As a very recreational skier, I love skiing at Homewood. It's only a few minutes away and it's a great family ski area with some of the best views of the lake. I think my favorite time of year there is the Fall. The days are still warm but the nights cool down so it's a perfect time to sit outside during the day and cozy up to the fire at night. And since the kids are back in school, it's not crowded there at all. Lake Tahoe is my favorite place in the world...any time of year!

What makes this chalet unique

Our cabin is a labor of love. We built it in 1976 as a family project with the help of a few friends. Although it was built with many hand-me-downs, it has always been cozy and comfortable. We updated the kitchen in 2006 and the bathrooms in 2013. Also in 2013 we replaced most of the furnishings and all the linens. We're very happy with the way it turned out--maintaining that rustic charm while providing all the modern conveniences. Come check it out!
