Step inside this beautiful restoration overlooking Italy's Lake Como and walk into a private Italian retreat. Steeped in history and stunning in design, this three-story stone house was architecturally renovated to make the most of the magnificent setting.
Set off the main road, nestled in the hillside, no traffic disturbs this home's calm beauty. The covered car-park is on the road so access to the house requires climbing steps to the hamlet and then walking 200 m on a path. The reward is privacy and a breathtaking panoramic view of the lake. This house has been showcased in two Italian architectural publications. Each room welcomes you with warmth and displays a splendid view of Lake Como.
The ground floor is comprised of the main living and dining area centered around an antique French stone fireplace, a fully-equipped kitchen, a laundry room with washing machine and sink, and a bathroom. Enjoy meals and a gorgeous view on the vine-covered terrace just off the kitchen, while keeping cool and shaded from the midday summer sun. The charcoal grill can be set up nearby.
The second floor has a family/TV area with fold-out sofa, one room with queen bed, a room with twin beds, and a full bathroom. The third floor houses 2 rooms with queen beds and one with a double bed with high, wood-beam ceilings, and a full bathroom. The third full bathroom is located between the second and third floor. Two travel cots are also available and can be placed in any room.
The garden is terraced and fenced in with a swing set. There are paths leading from the house into the woods or to the neighboring hamlets or towns, great for exploring.
History: This converted home began its life as two adjoining houses. Built in the custom of the times, these houses have two-feet-thick stone walls, made from stone quarried from the mountainside.
Recreation: Lake Como offers all of the attractions available on the lake and in the mountains. Ancient stone paths - many built by the Romans - reach from the village into the woods on the mountainside, offering endless possibilities for hiking. Adults and older children can follow the old mulatiera (mule path) from the down to Rezzonico and the beach.
Lake Como and Surrounding Area: Lake Como is considered by many to be the most beautiful of all of the Italian lakes - Northern Italy at its best. This resplendent lake is surrounded by a ring of mountain peaks, some of which are snow-capped year round. You will also find the shoreline of the lake dotted with numerous picturesque towns and villages. Nearby there is Menaggio, a lovely place for walking around, shopping, or stopping at one of many cafes or "gelaterie." The famous lakeside resort of Bellaggio is just a ten minute ferry-ride across the lake from Menaggio. Go a bit further for day-trips into the Valtellina wine region or Val Chiavenna.
