About the property

Affordable and clean rental in paradise located close to the ocean

It is located on the first floor and includes 546 sf of living space that encompasses a living room, a bedroom with a King Cal. bed, a full bath, and exclusive outdoor patio space. There is a twin sized bed that doubles as a couch in the living room for a child or another adult. It has it's own private entrance with ample parking on-site with your caretaker residing on premises for your convenience.

Here you can enjoy an ocean view and breezes from the tropical trade winds. At night you will be serenaded by the sounds of the coqui frogs. The cliffs of Kaloli Point and the ocean are only a brisk 5 minute walk away. You can take in the expansive ocean views, enjoy the pleasant trade winds and watch for whales. Kaloli point is the location of an ancient Hawaiian fishing village of which you can still see evidence of this ancient village to this day.

About Maria Akagi

Counselor and practicing artist. Maria is a para-professional tutor with ESL dept. It was not by design to transform our spare room into a rental, but typical of a teacher, wanted to lend a helping hand improve the quality of life and make a positive impact on the lives of others. I built a guest room for visiting family and friends, but it became a way to provide affordable accommodations for vacationers and sincere desire to make your Hawaiian vacation experience a memorable one.

Maria Akagi purchased this studio in 2010

Why Maria Akagi chose Keaau

Many rental properties are operated by owners living on the mainland, many without in depth knowledge of the lands and people of Hawaii. Because the owner is on property, Your concerns and questions will be addressed immediately with the spirit of aloha.

What makes this studio unique

It's always nice to have a quiet, comfortable place to retreat to after a busy day of taking in new sites. We can talk story and share our traveling experiences. We will do our best to answer any questions you may have; but if you desire total privacy, we can accommodate that as well. Aloha!

Most fun and relaxing vacation ever

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay, great place to chill out. John and Maria are tops as hosts. This property is squeaky clean and very comfortable. We cannot remember the last time we felt this relaxed. We are going to really miss this. The volcano park is temporarily closed but the park store and rangers have relocated to the Mokupapapa center in Hilo. All the major roads are open including the belt road through the volcano park. The roads here are excellent—smooth sailing everywhere we have driven and we have driven a lot looking at the sights, shopping and eating out. There is lots to see and do around the east side of Hawaii including in and around Hilo. As dramatic as the news coverage has been, the eruption affects a relatively small area in the southeast where almost no tourist visiting this part of the island would go anyway. Come on and visit—don’t miss the experience of a lifetime. We are already thinking about our next trip to Hawaii and we will definitely return to this property.

The owners were very friendly and accommodating. The studio was very clean and spacious with all the amenities and some. It was a nice touch to provide complimentary coffee, bottled water and soda! I would stay there again if I'm ever in the area!

KALOLI POINT

  • 5 of 5

Great time there! John and Maria were so kind! Great place! It's a 15-20 min to Hilo, but a very easy drive to town and centralized well if your planning on going to Volcano National Park. That was on our list and this place was perfect!

Very nice place. John and Maria have thought of everything. Very well equiped.

  • 4 of 5

Nice place to get away from it all. The owners have the place well stocked. It is a quick hike to see the ocean, but no beach access just walking. The only problem is the noise coming from the upper floor, you hear everything I'm assuming due to no insulation between floors. All in all a nice place to stay, but not for a romantic getaway.

Excellent setting and very comfortable suite.

  • 5 of 5

This space had everything we needed. It was comfortable, clean, and relaxed. I would highly recommend this space to anyone looking for a staging point for big island adventures on the east side of Hawaii, including volcano national park, and Mauna Kea.
