Overview

About the property

Close To Beach, Pavilion, Restaurants, Shops, Back River Fishing Pier, Kayaking.

Twin Palms Cottage, on the southern end of Tybee Island, is a short walk to the beach, pavilion, popular restaurants, shops, Back River beach and fishing pier. A small, charming, authentic cottage for serious cottage lovers, it's a place to relax, unwind and escape to a slower time.

This enchanting one-bedroom cottage is nestled under twin palms, their fronds rustling in the summer breeze. It is just steps away to the beautiful Back River beach, barefoot strolls in the sand, and breathtaking sunsets. It represents the classic guest cottage with French doors, painted wood floors, bead board walls, wicker and vintage furnishings.

You are greeted by a cheerful screened porch with a swing and comfortable sitting area. Here you can enjoy your morning coffee, an afternoon drink, or read late into the lazy summer nights. It's also a fun place to watch the kayakers and paddle boarders go by as they head across the street to Alley 3, the Back River launch and beach area (only 175 steps away).

When you open the French doors you are immediately inspired by the cottage's attractiveness and delightful personality. Inside you find a comfortable queen bed, clothed in layers of fresh cotton and lace, waiting to enfold you after an exhilarating day at the beach or on the river.

You will certainly enjoy the kitchenette area, with its table for four, and collection of antique dishware for your everyday use. The kitchenette also includes a sink, small refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and toaster. To top it off, a continental breakfast is provided.

Mary Kay Andrews, New York Times bestselling author, chose this adorable cottage as a haven where she penned several of her books at this same kitchen table before she purchased two Tybee cottages of her own!

The large charming bathroom includes an English washstand, dressing area, and a claw foot tub with shower, although the enclosed outdoor shower with hot and cold water is usually preferred to wash that sand and salt away!

Guests also enjoy a large covered outdoor space with abundant seating, including a swing large enough for an afternoon nap, plus a dining area, gas grill, and bicycle use. Once your car is parked, you can walk or ride a bike to almost everything, including the grocery store.

Linens, high speed wireless internet, and flat screen tv are provided.

Twin Palms Cottage (formerly Garner Cottage) is located in a quiet residential area on the south end of the island where Fifth and Tybrisia meet Chatham Avenue. The owners live on site.

About Leuveda Garner

I am a native Savannahian. As a child, I didn’t have a clue about how special it was to walk, ride my bike and skate in Savannah's beautiful parks and squares, plus spend carefree, glorious summer days building sand castles, swimming and frolicking in the ocean at Tybee.

As an adult, I lived and worked all over the country, but there was no place like home – especially Tybee Island. My husband Ron and I built our “forever” home here in 1996, and I finally returned after 30 years.

Why Leuveda Garner chose Tybee Island

Tybee means “salt” to Native Americans, but the name of this low-key seaside resort now brings to mind words such as “sun”, “surf” and “fun”. Located 18 miles east of Savannah, this small barrier island boasts a wide, 3-mile long beach that’s backed by sea oat-covered sand dunes and is perfect for sunbathing, people-watching and frolicking in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The island’s south-end pier and pavilion is a splendid venue for strolling above the ocean, people watching and fishing.

Although vacationers are lured to Tybee mainly because of what it provides in the way of recreation and relaxation, those with a love of history won’t be disappointed. Tybee offers: Fort Screven, The Tybee Island Lighthouse (dated 1773), an intriguing museum, and Fort Pulaski National Monument which is just west of the island on Hwy 80.

While Tybee is a resort town complete with a full range of restaurants, modern hotels and motels, luxurious condominiums, and quaint inns and cottages, it’s also a residential area stocked with its share of colorful characters. It’s an atmosphere considerably more laid-back than that of glitzier, larger beach towns to the north and south.

Twin Palms is a little piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

What a delightful and charming cottage on Tybee Island. From the moment of entering the screened porch and then the door to the cottage, everything was so welcoming that you feel immediately at home and cared for. Music playing, little lights on, a fruit basket and snacks were wonderful. There is exceptional attention to detail in the decorating and unbelievable use of space. The outdoor areas as well as the interior of Twin Palms all encourage you to leave your cares behind and relax. It is so cozy that it is very hard to leave. We enjoyed celebrating a landmark birthday and truly hope to return again.

The hosts are warm and cordial and provided excellent directions for locating the cottage.

This is a special place and opportunity!

If you are considering staying here, do it!!! Cutest cottage ever!!

First of all, the town of Tybee is great, Savannah is great and the weather was perfect, but what made this trip (besides eloping while were there :) was this amazing cottage. Leuveda and Ron are wonderfully nice people and they have created the perfect cottage. Every detail from the thoughtful bottle of champagne they left for us to celebrate our vows, to white fluffy towels and claw foot tub to the outdoor shower and bicycles just add the perfect touch. I could go on and on about the cottage but I will move on. You can easily walk or ride bikes to the shops, restaurants, beach, and pavilion but we especially loved being a short walk to the back river beach to watch the sunset in a secluded setting. Be sure to check AJ's Dockside Restaurant, Sundae's Cafe and the Gastropub for excellent food. We have found our new favorite spot and we will certainly be back. Oh and if the gnats are out, pick up a bottle of No Gnats, it works wonders ;)

It was exactly as the pictures showed

  • 4 of 5

The only problem we had was the weather it decided to get really really cold but our little heater was able to keep up pretty well so stayed warm. Had no oven and only two little burners so if you really wanted to cook rather than eat out kind of hard. Did have a grill that worked fine and use twice. The tub was really great but if you have a hard time with getting into high places such as some old people do was difficult so was the bed very high. Since we had to stay in so much due to the weather really no place to sit that was comfortable other than the bed. Would have been nice to have a more comfortable sofa. But this is a summer Cottage which I'm sure is absolutely wonderful then
