About Astrid Ashlynn Ohlberg

My husband, originally from California, and I, from Germany, fell in love with the Rocky Mountains. Even though we have traveled the world our preferred vacation spot became more and more the Colorado mountains and since we are planning to spend more time in Buena Vista decided to buy a house there in 2013. We like working on old houses to preserve their uniqueness, so we decided that this one being a jewel in the raw is definitely worth restoring to its original beauty. Now that the inside is complete, we now had the opportnity this summer to add a new deck, new windows and doors and my favorite: the sauna. Since this area has so much to offer in regards to winter, spring and summer sport activities we wanted to give our kids and grandkids the opportunity to enjoy many outdoor adventures by staying in our new home for an extended time to cut down on driving time from our main home.

Astrid Ashlynn Ohlberg purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Astrid Ashlynn Ohlberg chose Buena Vista

This home is an adorable brick home with a wood extension, close to downtown and has old-world charm. So many historical components are still in and around the house that caught our interest. It's been tastefully remodeled inside with wood floors & trim, 10 foot ceilings, unique bathroom, vintage stove and brick cutouts and a large mudroom for all our gear without dragging it throughout the house. Direct access from kitchen through French doors to deck with Wicker chairs. Although it's close to downtown the house is located on a quiet street away from the noise and directly on a bike route. The put-in site for our raft/kayak in just down the street. And our dog can stay either in the back or front of the fenced yard. My husband also likes that it is within walking distance to a fishing stream.

What makes this cottage unique

We added an outdoor Infrared sauna, so you can enjoy the many health benefits. your body from a day of sport activities.

Great fall weekend-House had everything that we needed

  • 5 of 5

We were in Buena Vista for a mountain biking weekend. The house is was perfect for our family of four. Beds are comfy, the kitchen had everything that we needed and the house was very clean. We enjoyed reading our books on the porch, dinner at Eddyline Pub and Brewery and a walk along the river the first evening. The second evening we cooked and had everything that we needed for dinner.

What a nice place in the heart of Buena Vista!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely place at this property in Buena Vista. We really appreciate the care that has gone into designing the outdoor space. It is fully fenced in which allowed us several evenings of drinking wine outside with our dogs. You can see Mt Princeton in the distance and the stars and moon look amazing at 8000 feet. You can even see the Milky Way.

The house inside is great, too. Definitely a unique interior with lots of charm and interesting detailing. The king bed was welcome. And the second bedroom has a wonderful view out the front window.

And location! We could walk to downtown in 3 mins but were still far enough away to not be disturbed by any noise (BV is a pretty quiet town). The Deerhammer distillery is highly recommends as well as the Viking food truck (when in season). You can also easily walk down to the river.

Overall we had a wonderful time and will be returning in the future.

Cozy and inviting

  • 5 of 5

From the welcoming sign on the door to the basket of goodies waiting for us, to the amazingly comfy bed, everything was perfect. It was the best of both worlds, being at home and on vacation at the same time! The house is right around the corner from Main Street where there are several really cute shops and yummy restaurants. I would stay here again and again!

Cozy Home

  • 5 of 5

WE loved staying here- great location with modern amenities in a historic home. The outside sitting area was as lovely as the inside furnishings. Birds visited us often, and the night lighting was so appealing, we played cards outside. The rooms are small, as historic rooms are, but really nicely done. The kitchen was well-stocked, too. I hope to go back!

Brown's Canyon on the Arkansas River is the most rafted river in the country. Professional kayakers call Buena Vista their home. Presently this area is in the process to become the next National Monument! Many rafting companies provide full-day and half-day tours for the whole family. As you float down the river you will notice the beautiful scenery with the bluest skies in the whole world, dry climate, no mosquitos that bug you and the climate stays fair. This area has the nick-name 'Banana Belt' because of the mild temperatures even the altitude is 8000 feet high. There are extensive bike trails with nearly-flat terrain and also mountain trails for the experience biker. You can rent the new 'Fat Tire' bikes just a block from the house. Or rent a Jeep and explore the mountain range with it's many fishing lakes and view sizeable deer and elk herds, mountain goats, bighorn sheep and antelopes. Take a drive over Independence Pass to Aspen with awesome views or go north to the ski town Vail. Breckenridge is another ski-town located northeast of Buena Vista. Those who like to take it easy can go on a stroll through downtown and visit the art, antique and consignment stores. You'll discover great finds for a surprising affordable prices. After a long day of rafting or skiing relax in one of the natural Hot Spring resorts, Mt. Princeton Resort or Cottonwood. There are also golf courses of course. Check out the one in Buena Vista in the foothills of Cottonwood pass or for those who would like to golf on the highest altitude golf course in the USA (10,000'), travel to Leadville, just a 30 minute drive north to Mount Massive golf course.
