The newest and oldest accommodation in Wells. The Mountain Thyme Getaway is a restored 1 and 1/2 story wooden clap-board house typical of the mine workers of the 1930s and 40s. Relaxing atmosphere, Cozy rooms, simple-world charm, comfy furniture, modern baths, DVD players and LP turntable, WiFi, and other conveniences for the modern traveler. Across from the 'Best Cafe' in the entire Central Interior, and within walking distance of everywhere, including theaters, art galleries and stores. Balcony view of Mountains and Meadows. 6 minutes from Barkerville, and 25 minutes from Bowron Lakes.

Upstairs is a master bedroom and landing with pullout twins as well as a deep soaker tub. Downstairs is a large side room with two entrances, and a double and two twin beds. It has its own bathroom with shower and an outside door to the deck. The main area reflects the historical era of the 1940's with furniture, photographs and even an operating phonograph. Hidden, but available, are DVD players, an LCD TV and WiFi services. The kitchen has all the necessities from microwaves and coffee machines to grills, fridge and a BBQ.

The elevated front deck commands the street and the valley, while the private back deck even boasts a dog-house and fenced area for pets.

Experience the Gold! Barkerville, in 1862, was the home to BC's largest gold rush, which led to our incorporation in Canada. It has over 120 buildings, live interpretation, operating period mercantile, guided tours and displays. It is a BC Heritage site, a National Historic Site of Canada and contains two additional National Historic Monuments.

Wells, in 1933, became the largest town in BC north of Hope, with 4,000 people, all night grocery stores, 3 bars 5 churches, a giant community hall and even a train station office. Fred Wells wanted a prosperous town with a community spirit, and his goal live on today. With only 280 full-time residents, Wells is dominated by tourism and gold mining still. In the summer, there are two operating live theaters, constant concerts in other venues, and one of Canada's 10 best Music Festivals (Artswells). In addition, there are a variety of shops, restaurants and galleries, and our historically unique architecture is proudly maintained in the colorful residents preserved from the original mining construction.

Wells is also the gateway to 100's of km of trails, mountains, and canoe routes. It has an extensive hiking and Mountain Biking system, ATV and snowmobile trails, and the scenic Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit, a one week canoe trip, rated one of the 10 best canoe trips in the world.

Summer offers endless entertainment and cultural opportunities in a community set in a remote mountain valley, with some of the best large wildlife viewing opportunities in North America.

SPRING WHOLE HOUSE FEE OFFER: Add just $70 and take the whole house(two baths, 6 beds)(Required for groups larger than 4 persons), plus $25 per person over 6 people.

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
