About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Country Cottage On The Beach

Hebrides Hideaway is ideally situated in one of the most beautiful areas on the north shore of Prince Edward Island. Within ten minutes drive of Cavendish, Prince Edward Island National Park and world-class golf courses, this three bedroom waterfront cottage is located in the heart of the private Hebrides cottage community. If you get tired of kayaking, strolling the red sand beach and digging for clams just outside your front door, you are a one-minute walk from a private, 9-hole golf course, mini-golf, in-ground heated swimming pool, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor shuffleboard, pool room and horseshoe pit, all part of the rental price. Perfect for families and couples.

This 1,100 sq. ft. two-story, cedar shake cottage framed by rose bushes would have to be described as quaint on the outside with all the modern amenities on the inside. Sit on the deck and watch blue herons and eagles during the day. Cook marshmallows around a campfire at night and drink in the millions of stars. Watch DVDs on the flat-screen TV or reconnect with board games and books. The master bedroom includes a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom/shower; the second bedroom includes two double beds and the third bedroom includes a double and a single bed. A second bathroom/shower is located on the upper floor. The open concept main floor allows the conversations to continue from the kitchen, the dining area and the living area facing the beach. The Hebrides Hideaway has only been rented for one year on select dates and has all the personal touches and charm of a family-owned cottage.

About Jim and Brenda Randall

The Randall's are 'Come From Aways'. We were born in Toronto and Ottawa and have lived in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. We have called Charlottetown, PEI, home for the past four years and want to share a piece of 'The Gentle Island' with others.

Jim and Brenda Randall purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Jim and Brenda Randall chose New London

We bought this property because it had character and all the amenities we could ever want. Right on the water, it allowed us the privacy of a family-owned property. In addition, as a member of the Hebrides community, we had access to a heated, in-ground swimming pool and a nine hole par-3 golf course for ourselves and our 14-year old.

What makes this cottage unique

When we were looking for a cottage we visited many of what I would call 'modular home' cottages. They all seemed to be the same. When we saw this one, it was a one of a kind and reminded me of what a cottage should be, both inside and out.

Amazing cottage!!!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect. It was clean, well stocked and we couldn't ask for a better location. We had 7 people- including 3 young children and the activities kept them busy. Having the community complex with the pool and golf course was a huge asset. We would return here for another vacation for sure!

Very nice, relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Jim was great answering all my questions upfront via email and met us in person right when we arrived. The cottage is lovely and the setting perfect. Jim showed us everything in the shed for our use and in the house.

The firepit is a great addition and enjoyed it a couple of nights, firewood and marshmallow roasting sticks provided! Perfect location for watching the sunset and it is very pretty, get a great view over the bay.

We were able to leave our kayaks right near the firepit so did not have to port them far to launch. The tide is pretty low in this area until you get out and around to the west side of the island which is only about a mile. We enjoyed paddling to the national park which is a mile across and not many people there. There is also a nice, sandy beach near the lighthouse which you can either paddle to or drive and park. I biked a couple of times, the road into the cottage is a bit bumpy (packed red clay) but not bad. Very scenic, long rolling hills.

We found a couple nice dining options on our travels around the island and the lobster dinner at New Glasgow is highly recommended, great way to end our trip!

The cafe that provided WiFi is no longer open currently, we had data, so either do that or better yet, leave your devices off and enjoy! The island is beautiful, people are friendly (a woman in the grocery store told us where to get fresh lobster so we could make our own lobster rolls for picnic lunches) and the music is great (nearby Stanley Music Hall has a concert every night and at intermission have great local ice cream and strawberries).

Jim and Brenda have a lovely cottage in a beautiful setting with all the amenities for a very nice, relaxing and enjoyable vacation. Would highly recommend.

P.S. Just a couple updates and additions to the booklet would be helpful but know that information can change so you just have to check some things out as you explore.

Loads of fun and room for three generations!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday at this cottage. Plenty of room and loads of activities. Lots of gear for young and old to play with. It is located in a quiet community but minutes to lots of tourist attractions and great places to eat. There were several welcoming dining choices close by and a great fresh seafood market. We were disappointed the pool was unavailable but that was unforeseen and certainly beyond the owners control. The waterfront at the cottage kept all of us busy and we had several perfect beaches within minutes. We would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to return soon. Our grandchildren actually cried the day we left! Loved it!

Perfect cottage for families!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this cottage - it was just as lovely and perfect as pictured. We hope to rent it again the next time we plan a summer trip to PEI. The location was a quick 10 min drive to many tourist attractions but felt very peaceful and private.

When we arrived we were surprised by all the gear in the shed (for tennis, golf, kite flying, sand toys, 2 kayaks, etc.) and in the house (movies, books, games, info on nearby sights / attractions). The cottage was clean, well maintained and a good size for two families to share. We rented the cottage primarily for our family of 4 however we had friends (a family of 5) stay with us for a couple of days mid-week and it never felt crowded or too small.

Our stay was the last week before Labour day so the weather was great some days, rainy and/or too cool for the beach on others. However, the amenities provided with the cottage (and a very short walk across the road to access) meant that we were never bored: lots of ping pong, shuffleboard at the nearby rec center, tennis, golf, flying kites on the lawn facing New London Bay, digging for clams, kayaking. We were also able to enjoy the community pool, which was ideal for young kids who can't swim as easily at the beach with the waves. One of our favourite parts was the nightly campfires we could enjoy by edge of the lawn. Our kids still ask us when we are going back to "our cottage".

The kitchen was well stocked but if you are bringing a baby or toddler, bring your own feeding (sippy cups, small utensils etc.) and sleeping supplies. We brought a pack n play for our toddler and there was enough room in any of the 3 bedrooms to set it up.

Fabulous cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was just as lovely as the pictures show! We rented the cottage for two families, with a total of 4 adults, 4 kids with one baby, and it was wonderful. The cottage was clean, well equipped and had everything you could possibly want. The kids flew kites, we used the kayaks and we loved the clubhouse and pool. My husband was out frequently on the golf course. We brought his clubs, but there were even clubs in the shed to use. Jim, the owner was amazingly responsive and so helpful. He was really great to work with both before and during the rental. We ate in a lot, and the kitchen was VERY well equipped if you plan to cook in. The deck was our absolutely favorite part, it had plenty of comfy furniture, and we loved watching the sunset every night.

We were able to walk all the way around the peninsula in less than an hour and found rocks and shells. The kids loved beachcombing right by the house. It was too windy the week were there for a fire, but there was a lovely firepit and wood supplied. The house has games a plenty and lots of books available to read., It was located just 10 minutes from Cavendish, and you can catch a ceilidh right down the street at the Women's Institute any night of the week. We highly recommned this cottage!

Family of 6, first time in PEI

  • 4 of 5

This was a wonderful introduction to PEI for us. The cottage is neat, clean, picturesque, located right on the water, with an incredible view. There was enough room for the six of us, and the kids loved the opportunities to kayak, fly kites, play soccer (all equipment included in the rental). On stormy days they had fun in the clubhouse across the road, including the pool. We were very happy with the accommodation and found the place quite well equipped.
