Our light-filled three story home is perched on a lovely, quiet corner of the historic West End residential neighborhood and is walking distance to all of Portland's finest. It's a great hub from which to explore both the vibrant city life nearby, as well as all the natural glories of Southern Maine. The house is roomy and well-appointed, perfect for families or a few friends traveling together. One of the rare properties right in town with a spacious back deck for meals al fresco, and backyard big enough for the kids to play in. Whether you want to plunge into Portland's world class culinary scene, catch the current show at The Portland Museum of Art, attend the latest event at Space Gallery, take the ferry to Peaks Island, picnic at Kettle Cove, bird watch at the Audubon, or hit the outlets in Freeport and Kittery, you'll find our home a comfortable home base to return to. We can reduce the rate for longer stays.
The West End is the last truly residential neighborhood in the Portland Peninsula and with its beautiful, wide tree-lined streets adorned with remarkable historic buildings and lovely gardens, it seemed like the perfect place to live and play with our daughter, while still being plugged into the vibrant life and amazing restaurants of Portland's downtown. What we love about this home is how it is flooded with light at any time of day, has all the charm and details of an antique home but all the comforts of a modern one.
We really enjoyed our week in Portland. The home was perfect and it was in a great location. We walked everywhere in town. Homeowners provided a great list of places to eat and all were great. We loved spending time inside and outside of the home. Beautiful yard. We would stay in this house again for sure and we definitely need more time in Portland. Thank you, Sean and Desi.
This was our first time renting a house, and I feel like we may be spoiled by how wonderful the house was.
The house is wonderfully whimsical, with all the charm of an old house but with all the modern amenities. The neighborhood was quiet and safe for walking at any hour. We stayed in August, and thankfully the bedrooms had small A/C units that made sleeping comfortable for all. We had one car, and parking was a breeze, but I understand that it could be a little tighter in the fall through spring. But really if you want to just explore Portland (about a 5 minute drive to downtown), you could Uber around easily, and save on rentals. The back deck was a favorite, as we had many a meal al fresco, overlooking the cozy back garden. The owners were attentive if we needed anything. Really just a perfect place!
The home is beautifully decorated, comfortable, and clean. The neighborhood is a perfect spot from which to explore the City - almost anything is within a 20-minute walk, and the owners left a list of lovely spots to visit. The owners were flexible and accommodating, and we really enjoyed our stay.
We rent houses, mostly off of vrbo, approximately 5-7 times a year, and this house has been the best we have ever rented, ever.
Our entire family (parents and 4 children) loved this house. It is spacious - and although many are, the differentiation is that this house is both spacious and well thought out. It is clear that people who love it have furnished it and live in it. The decor is such that I took many photographs of it as inspiration for when we get around to redecorating our own house. (Kitchen is the most pleasant and inspirational I have ever seen.) Bedding is cozy and restful. Details are thoughtful - everything, from the books on the bookshelves to the pictures hanging on the walls. We felt like we were being welcomed as loved houseguests, rather than merely weekend renters. They left fresh blueberries and farm eggs for us in the fridge and tipped us off to a Saturday morning farmer's market the next day!
The neighborhood is wonderful and quiet, though walkable at <10 minutes (with children) to the district with all the good restaurants. Parking was not an issue, though I had worried about this -- on the quiet street in front, you have up to 2 hr parking after 9am, which is perfectly fine if you are a tourist planning on touring! - or you can park 100 feet away around the corner for no charge and no trouble.
Their caretaker (Brendan) left us a note + fresh blueberries and farm fresh eggs in the refrigerator. This place is wonderful. We loved everything about it.
We stayed a week here and absolutely loved it. The house is gorgeously furnished and decorated, and we ended up spending lots of time just hanging out there. The kitchen (which also has an informal TV watching space, plus great collection of DVDs) is really sunny and a lovely space to pass daytimes and evenings in. There's a really nice garden with a very sunny deck and a grill. All bedrooms really nice and very comfortable. The first floor study is a lovely room in which to read. If you have small kids, there's a wonderful and well-stocked playroom, which our 4 year old adored. The neighborhood is quiet and leafy, with a great green space five minutes' walk away. There are some great shops and cafes within walking distance, and downtown Portland is also close enough to walk to. Overall, the week we spent here was the best bit of the best vacation we can remember, and we'd recommend it to anyone. We hope to be back another time!
