The home is secluded and warm but with all the modern amenities. It sits in the middle of four wooded acres, with no other house in sight, but is only 1.8 miles from the center of the town of Woodstock. I bought it in the summer of 2013 and have enjoyed many relaxing weekends away from NYC.
The original interior is full of warm, knotty pine walls, hardwood floors, and a wood-burning fireplace. In the fall of 2013, I converted an adjoining artist studio to a Great Room. It now has cathedral pine ceilings, wood beams, and light pine floors. It also houses a brand new down-filled Room & Board sofa and chaise, a brand new ping-pong table, a gas woodstove, and a 55' television with DirecTV.
The home has two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a washer and dryer. The Master bedroom features knotty pine cathedral ceilings, Russell Wright furnishings, a brand new, quality king mattress, and its own private second-floor deck. The second bedroom also features cathedral ceilings, painted knotty pine walls and ceiling, a brand new Queen Bed, and a day-bed that can be converted to a king. The bed mattresses are all high-quality, brand new, and very comfortable.
The kitchen has it all: gas stove, large refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and all the cooking tools, pots and pans, and dishes you could need. The kitchen leads to a serene screened-in back porch that looks onto the blue stone patio and off into the woods. Four steps up from the patio is a brand new hot tub that looks out over the house.
The front yard is beautifully landscaped with blue stone walkways and steps. About 100 yards to the side of the house -- still on the property -- is a mountain stream.
I live in Brooklyn but spend many peaceful weekends at this relaxing retreat in the woods.
David purchased this house in 2013
I looked for two years for just the right place. I wanted the feel of a cabin but the space, light, and amenities of a modern home. I wanted seclusion but proximity to town. This has it all. In the summer of 2013, I converted what was an artist's studio space into a great room with cathedral ceilings, wood beams, a ping-pong table and a gas woodstove. I also built a blue stone patio in back and added a hot tub on the rise of the back hill. Sitting in the tub, you look over the house at the tall, evergreen trees and the open sky.
The interior of the house needed no work -- the previous owner was a weaver and kept the home in meticulous, artistic shape. The knotty pine walls give it great warmth. The picture frame windows make you feel as though you are sitting in a nature painting. And when the mountain stream next to the house is racing, the sound of the water makes you forget entirely about the rest of the world.
The home's combination of warmth and seclusion with it's close proximity to town make it unique. You cannot see another house from the property and yet you are only 1.8 miles from the center of town.
We had a great time here for a weekend. The property is spacious and comfortable while still providing great views and access to some nature, as well as nearby Woodstock. Everything was well maintained and the owner was communicative while we where there, going so far as to email us to check in after a storm (we did lose power for a few hours, but that's not the property's fault.)
Overall we had a lovely time and we hope to stay again sometime soon.
This was our second time staying at David's mountain house. Another perfectly relaxing weekend. The house has everything you need––ping pong table, hot tub, great entertainment system, comfy couch, big kitchen––and it's only five minutes from town. Looking forward to coming back soon!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. A perfectly cozy and secluded place to unwind and disappear for just a little while... reading, hiking, hot tub, ping pong, napping and chipmunk watching.
Thanks so much, have already recommended to others and hope to return again.
Kids loved the ping pong table and exploring outside.
David’s place is lovely! We visited from Brooklyn for a weekend out of the city. It was exceptionally cold this weekend (5 degrees F) and we had a bit of difficulty getting it to be a cozy temperature in the house our first day. David was very responsive in dealing with the problem and walked us through all the steps to help us deal with the extreme cold outside. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, and the living spaces are well furnished. There is a well stocked kitchen and enough board games to keep you occupied all weekend! We hope to return in the spring!
This was our second stay at David’s mountain retreat and it was as delightful as the first time. He keeps the place so well maintained and comfortable. It really is a special place. Thank you David. We look forward to coming back again.
