About the property

110 Acres, 1000 Ft Of Private Bay-Front Beach, 3000+ Ft Of Lakefront Shoreline

Our 110 acre sanctuary is one of the largest privately-owned properties on the Chesapeake Bay. It is a peninsula with the Chesapeake Bay to our east and our lakes to the north and south. It features an incredible 1000 feet of private Bay-front beach and over 3000 feet of pristine inner-coastal shoreline - overall, boasting nearly a mile of private, water-front property!

Here, nature is your only neighbor. White sandy beaches, a cozy lagoon, a giant sand dune, and an immense forest provide the perfect habitat for all kinds of wildlife - and lots of family fun. Swim, kayak, hike, bike, fish, catch crabs - explore nature at its best - all on our property! Enjoy a deluxe kids' play set, basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, and many more outdoor and indoor games too.

Spread out in our stunning and spacious 4100 sq. ft. home. Designed by renowned architect, Jim Glave, it enhances your experience with an open floor plan and panoramic views of the Bay. A large screened porch directly off of the kitchen is perfect for dining, entertaining, and relaxing. A rooftop deck provides dramatic and unique views. 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths accommodate up to 14 people. The first floor master suite is extraordinary with a central sky dome, sitting nooks, built-ins, and a lavish bathroom with a separate vanity, two sinks, walk-in shower, and Jacuzzi tub.

Explore our community. Historic Reedville, once considered one of the wealthiest towns in America, has 19th century mansions that will astound you. A fisherman's museum, antique shops, fine restaurants, wineries, and challenging golf courses are also popular attractions.

Come for the peace and privacy. Leave with a better perspective. The Preserve is the perfect Chesapeake Bay experience!

Note: We own 2 other rental properties on the Bay (VRBO#399839 and #644192). We've rented for 6 years and had many satisfied guests and positive reviews.

About Bill

We are Northern Virginia natives who cherish convenient getaways to water and woods. We found it on the Chesapeake Bay. The easy commute to a nature-lovers dream located in a folksy, family-oriented community is all we could ask for.

Bill purchased this house in 2013

Why Bill chose Reedville

The tranquil setting and spectacular views are why we chose this property. We've owned another nearby Bay-front home for six years and continue to enjoy it immensely (VRBO#399839). But this property is different and unique in many ways. We look forward to enjoying and sharing both properties for many years to come.

What makes this house unique

Peace, privacy, and stunning views - all thanks to nature!

Spring break at The Preserve on the Chesapeake Bay

  • 5 of 5

We were two families (4 adults and 7 kids ages 10-17) looking for a spring break getaway and the house met all of our expectations. The architecture of the home was beautiful and allowed us to enjoy the outdoor beauty of the property from within the home - which was especially nice given the fickle late March weather feeling more like winter than spring. We had a few issues with the house, one that the owner identified before our arrival (dishwasher) and one that we identified after arrival (internet service), but the owner was extremely proactive and responsive in communicating with us and helping to resolve the issues as quickly as possible. The house was very comfortable and met all of our needs. Despite the cold weather, we were still able to spend much of our time outside as planned, enjoying kayaking on the ponds and the bay, kids tromping through the woods, bike riding in the neighborhood etc. I will note a few things- the house is remote and the nearby towns are very small - this was not an issue for us as we were specifically looking to get away and the property was large with plenty of room to explore. The cell reception was extremely spotty in the house - with verizon it seemed to randomly cycle between no service and one or two bars, with ATT it was pretty much no service unless you walked down the driveway a bit towards the road. There was a landline and wifi internet, but the bandwidth of the internet was limited and it was very slow to load even simple webpages. Again not a huge issue for us, but should be aware as many people expect to stay more connected on vacation. Lastly the house is a bit dated, as other reviewers had commented this wasn't a surprise - everything was extremely clean and comfortable but much of the fixtures and finishes in bathrooms and kitchens were original. Overall we had a great experience and would recommend to anyone looking to get away and spend time in this area of the Chesapeake.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you and your family enjoyed all the Preserve has to offer. A clarification about the wifi - the wifi is via satellite due to the remote location. The service is 1.5 Mbps download and up to 768 Kbps upload. There is a chance, depending on the weather, that full speeds are not reached. This was the first time we have had the wifi flagged as a problem, and it should be adequate for most user's needs.

A Fantastic location for our Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

What an ideal location for our family reunion! We loved the open floor plan for our family gatherings and meals together. The numerous bedrooms, screened in porches and acres and acres of ocean front gave our family so much room to spread out and feel comfortable in this private haven. Thank you so much! We would love to come back to the beautiful Northern Neck of Virginia. It was the vacation of a lifetime!

Awesome Autumn

  • 5 of 5

My three-generation family returned yet again to our favorite Chesapeake Bay house -- I think this was our 5th trip. The weather was quite warm, so we were in the water in the first week of October. We had fun with the kids identifying and following the footprints in the sand -- birds, deer, dogs -- and creating the story the prints told. Our 9 year old soloed in her kayak and, with her Grandpa, maneuvered into Gaskin Lake -- a nice boost of self-confidence. We're cooks, and the pinnacle was beef wellington -- spectacular! And second place went to the empanadas. :-9 We always have a very lovely time at The Preserve, with the fire pit in the evenings and boat- and bird-watching during the day. There is no place else where we can unwind so thoroughly. Thanks for everything, Bill. We will talk soon about next year!
