This place has character and charm. It's location is incredible. The owners are first class.

Would recommend this house to anyone traveling to New Orleans. My company produces events and we are also travel agents. We love it when we find a gem, and this house is a gem.

We had our family get together and everyone loved the experience.

Owner's Response: Thank you Craig and guest for selecting our historic home. It is nice to hear words, from a guest, in the business of "event hosting/traveling." We work hard to make our home welcoming, clean and inviting. As you experienced, it truly is a "rare" opportunity in terms of finding a single family home in the business/warehouse arts district of New Orleans. Like you, many of our guest love the architectural callouts of this 1800's renovation. Again, we thank you and your family for taking such great care of our little "gem!" Sam and Pat

An absolutely beautiful property close to everything

  • 5 of 5

Our group of seven was very pleased with this property. Though others had stayed in VRBO/B&B spots, this was my first experience. Wow. The host and property manager were unbelievably helpful and accommodating. They kept in touch from the time of the reservation until we arrived and while we were there Sam checked in regularly to make sure everything was going well. Two of our group arrived a day early--no problem! Mrs. Pat met them so they could drop off their luggage before the rest of us arrived. Our departure was delayed due to the icy weather the area was experiencing--no problem! Sam instantly let us know we would be welcome to stay longer, until we could safely travel, and checked in with us even after our departure to be sure we arrived home safely. He provided loads of helpful neighborhood information and tourist ideas. The house notebook is packed with ideas for restaurants, museums, the local grocery store, bars, etc.

Everyone felt they had a great amount of space. The beds were super comfortable. Loads of hotel-type amenities, including razors and makeup removers in addition to the usual shampoo, conditioner, etc. Loads of sheets and towels. Loads of hot water. Everything was immaculate. We felt it was far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be restful but close enough to walk to lots of things easily, including the WWII museum, the French Quarter, etc. and because of the great location (and when we were lazy) the ride service cars were easy to get and inexpensive.

Last but not least, the house is gorgeous, from the woodwork to the artwork. Very comfortable space. We were there celebrating a birthday and planned to eat and drink out exclusively, but the day we got there one of our group said, "We have to cook here--this is the kitchen of my dreams!" Very well equipped with just about everything you could want in a kitchen.

We would 1000% recommend.

Great house! Excellent location!

  • 4 of 5

The house is very nice. The kitchen and appliances are top notch, for those inclined to cook for themselves. Location couldn't be better - centrally located between the Quarter and Garden District. Easy access to the Superdome, and the WWII museum.

Great place, loved our visit

  • 5 of 5

This home is beautiful, clean and comfortable. The neighborhood is safe and has easy access to all of the popular destinations. Sam and Mrs. Pat are very accommodating and hospitable. Another bonus for our family was being across the street from our sister who lives there. She loves this home so much she's going to recommend it to her friends to stay there.

Beautiful clean charming home!

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot express how pleased we were with Sam, Mrs. Pat, and this beautiful home! From the moment we arrived, Mrs. Pat made sure we felt welcome to the point of feeling like we were visiting old friends! We had all of the amenities one would need when traveling, extra pillows, plenty of sheets and towels, soap, hair dryers, corkscrews...basically if you name it, they had it! The home was clean and well kept and had plenty of room for 10 adults. One concern when we had when we arrived was "will we have enough hot water with 10 people?" I can tell you happily that answer is "you'll have plenty!" We all showered, ran the washer, and dishwasher and still had hot water! One quirk to be aware of is the front door doesn't latch all of the way so you have to lock it. If not, it creaks open and which was oddly enough perfect since we were there visiting for Halloween haha. We felt completely safe at all times. The hustle and bustle of the city was a quick 15 minute walk away or a quick Lyft ride (there are tons of lyfts/ubers in the area so you're never waiting long). Even though the house backs up to a big highway, you can't hear it in the home. It gets a little loud every now and then if you're sitting in the big backyard but who cares?! Thank you Sam and Mrs. Pat for opening your home to us for our Halloween vacation. We will absolutely be returning!!

Owner's Response: Thank you Bree and Friends. Yes, we too enjoyed meeting you not as "guest" but more like friends. Pat and I work hard to make sure guest are comfortable and confident that we go over the top in providing amenities - including hot water for three bathrooms!! The front door is a bit "quirky" however in the restoration of this 1860's home, we worked around original fixtures of the home for authenticity. So, we settled for using the "lock" to secure the door - it creates a good. lol We are glad you all had a great time during this busy holiday and found accessing various parts of the city easy and friendly from the French Quarter to your favorite restaurants. It is so nice to return "home" and settle in to a cozy cottage. Again, thank you all for taking such great care of our historic home and as always, we invite you to return! See you soon - Pat and Sam

Perfect house for my Bachelorette weekend

  • 5 of 5

This was my first VRBO experience and it was lovely! Sam made sure the house had everything you could think of, even makeup remover towelettes! Mrs. Pam is the House Manager and she was very accommodating and flexible. The Master bedroom is a great size, and I know there was plenty of room int he loft upstairs. I had one friend that slept on the futon and actually found it comfortable! Having 3 bathrooms made it really easy for us 8 ladies to get ready in the morning. I would totally recommend this house to anyone with a big group.

About Sam Bridges

I purchased this house in 2000 as a blighted piece of property. It was the worst house in the neighborhood and everyone laughed at me when I showed it to them. It seemed only I could see the potential of this beautiful lady. With the help of award winning architect Jackie Case and her husband Mark Redding, who was the contractor, we were able to return her to her former grandeur with a modern touch. Some of the design ideas that allowed for a full size third bathroom were contributed by my late mother who is a collected folk artist. Her works are collected by the likes of Delta Burke and Neil Young among many others. Some of the art work in the house is hers. In 2004 I met the love of my life Julie. Julie is a dentist in Baton Rouge. We quickly split our time between Baton Rouge and New Orleans while starting our family. So many memorable times have been spent in this home. We truly love to entertain and welcome you to share in this beautiful home with us. I have enjoyed this home as a bachelor while running my Naturopathic business in the dining room area. As Julie and I dated we enjoyed many romantic walks to and from all the exiting sights, sounds, and tastes of the city. Mostly, we never ventured more than a 15 minute stroll from our home. ; ) We still continue to enjoy the city with our two children in tow. Julie's business and family keep us more ensconced in Baton Rouge, so we don't get in as much as we'd like to….so we are sharing our precious lady with you. If there is anything that we can offer to you that is not already provided for, please ask. New Orleans has been my home for over 20 years and continues to be one of the best places in the world for friends, family, and fun. Oh, and my friends who laughed at me for buying this bit of then blighted property, well, they are some of our most frequent guests. I hope you enjoy our little piece of paradise as much as we have.

Sam Bridges purchased this house in 2000

Why Sam Bridges chose Warehouse District

With the French Quarter a mere 1.1 miles away, I saw a fabulous opportunity to be able to play in the Quarter without the daily struggle of having to enter and exit the Quarter. Having lived in the Pontalba Apartments at Jackson Square I only knew too well the reality of the logistics of parking and the desire for a quiet nights sleep. Another of my loves is restoration and preservation. Care was taken to preserve as much of this homes original bones and structure while including some modern changes to make this double shotgun into a more livable family home. Additionally, I purchased two additional pieces of property that were deemed unusable right away to give this home a private gated driveway and an actual yard that the children could play in. This is unheard of in the CBD/Warehouse/French Quarter districts.

What makes this house unique

The unique benefit of this now home is it's proximity to all the fun of the French Quarter, the business of the CBD, and the shopping of the Uptown and the Garden Districts. Being a consultant that travels, the airport is conveniently a mere 20 minutes away. The added benefit of being able to be anywhere I want to be in the city in 15 minutes by foot, car, or trolly is why I chose this most unique setting.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our "home" in New Orleans was one of the highlights! We will absolutely recommend this to friends! You all should come to Fargo, ND and stay at our house - Fargo is Fabulous as well - and very unknown in that region. Thanks Miss Pat and Sam - it has been a pleasure and we hope our paths cross again.

Truly Rare! One of only three single family homes in the Art's District!

Located in the Warehouse District of New Orlean's Central Business District. You have found the only available single historic 'shotgun' style home in the District.

Fully renovated by the owner and an award winning architect, this home offers 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths for your luxurious enjoyment.

Resurrected from blight, this unique 1860's property survived and has become one of New Orlean's favorite shotguns as featured in the Preservation Resource Center's titled book 'New Orlean's Favorite Shotguns'.

A convenient walk will find you saying 'Look, there's Emeril's, The D Day and World War II Museums, Restaurant August, Harrah's, Convention Center, River Walk, French Quarter, Superdome ' and on and on….

Our beloved and cherished home has anchored the area and even been referred to as 'The Georgetown' of the Warehouse District.

Step onto your private porch for a night of starlet gazing(Hollywood loves this off beat area), conversation, or reflection. Better yet, hit the streets and enjoy the energy of a night of entertainment visiting the equally hot and delicious famous restaurants and local watering holes.

This jewel comes with the oh so standard amenities of WiFi, two big smart TV's, cable, phone, business fax and other office accommodations.

Our home has been the host of event parties, celebrations, and those seeking to explore NOLA both for business and pleasure.

Easily accessed, private gated entrance just minutes from Louis Armstrong International airport and literally a few blocks from the Amtrack, our home offers a unique private setting unheard of in most metropolitan areas.
