About Matilde Alberny

Greetings! We are Matilde and Gustavo, both visual artists. We came in 1999 to #NewOrleans for an exhibit of Gustavo and barely few hours later fell irrevocably in #love with the city.

Gustavo is a well-known artist and regularly shows abroad and other cities of the United States. His work (and mine) are permanently on display at Kezic Gallery in the #FrenchQuarter. You might want to organize a visit to Gustavo’s art studio in the Bywater.

We moved to New Orleans where we found a perfect mélange of village and city life with great entertainment. We are foodies, finding wonderful dining experiences in New Orleans is easy and are plentiful. We stroll while sipping our drinks (it’s “legal” here) and enjoy our architectural treasures in the afternoon, meet friends or chase fabulous #music at the many venues and festivals around the city. And most of it, if not all can be done walking!

We are owners and managers of our property. We like to personally greet our visitors if possible. We are attentive to all of our guests needs and inquiries but understand that we are not part of the planned vacation. We are available if needed.

Matilde Alberny purchased this apartment in 2002

Why Matilde Alberny chose Bywater

We were enamored by the laid back ambiance of the Bywater, a gorgeous and dynamic historic district just blocks away from the French Quarter. We were seduced by the relaxed tone of this quaint, artsy and eclectic neighborhood. So we established our art studio on Dauphine.

The Bywater is the perfect area to enjoy a true local NOLA experience, very close to everything, but far enough to be quiet at night. It is a treasure!

In harmony with the innovative spirit of the residents of the Bywater, restaurants and cafes are gathering attention from around the country, great food is being cooked here! The art and entertainment scene is hip and varied and something amazing is always going on.

As one of our awesome guests said: “Be brave and leave the French Quarter behind!”

What makes this apartment unique

You will enjoy the laziness of the backyard, sitting in the front porch while the interesting characters that live in the Bywater go about their businesses. An stroll through the neighborhood is a wonderful experience.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Very clean and well-stocked apartment. Loved the neighborhood! Very fun and eclectic. Found the train whistle and bell tolling at the nearby church to be very comforting not at all annoying. The back yard was very pleasant and secluded. Made much use of that. All in all it was Perfection! Would definitely stay here again!

Great little home in a nice area!

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean and ready for us when we arrived. Matilde had everything we could have needed in case we left something at home. She was also very quick and helpful with her responses to any questions we had. I would highly reccomend this house for a stay in NOLA!

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is located in the Bywater District. This is being currently developed with lots of cafes, restaurants, etc. Very eclectic streets that showcase beautiful homes with lots of charm.

The apartment was very clean and tastefully decorated. It had a private yard in the back with a deck and some chairs. It was so quiet and peaceful to sit out there. Matilde and Gustavo made sure that every amenity was there so we were able to cook and do laundry without needing anything but some food.

We had lunch at Elizabeth's. This is a local casual restaurant that was very busy - even on a Wednesday! The food was delicious and the service was great; our waitress was very friendly!

Matilde and Gustavo gave us numerous suggestions on where to eat, places to see, etc. This location is awesome, with so many things to do within walking distance. You can walk to the French Market, Royal St., and Frenchman St. Gustavo has an art gallery on Royal St. with amazing pieces of art. We had dinner at Mr. B's Bistro and it was outstanding. We also had dinner on our last night at The Country Club. This is a very unique place that was right around the corner from this apartment. You must go here!

Brunch was at Paladar 511(recommended by Matilde). You must try the lemon ricotta pancakes. They were light, fluffy, and were the best we have ever had!

Matilde and Gustavo are gracious hosts and we look forward to coming back to stay here again!

Owner's Response: Erin, it is such a pleasure to host wonderful people like you and your daughter. The Bywater is different from the rest of New Orleans, has a lot of character and great places to go. It is an opening flower to loving people like you two... and it's best secrets cannot be easily translated, they are in the air, the people, the charm... Looking forward to seeing you here again.

A quaint little gem in the perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Cute and tidy apartment full of charm and amazing art. Walking distance to the French Quarter and Frenchmens street. Great restaurants and bars near by. We quickly learned, we didn't need to leave the neighborhood, so many fun places to eat and drink within blocks of the front door. Gustavo and Matilde were amazing hosts, they made themselves available before and during the stay. The apartment had everything we needed, including the outdoor patio. Truly a perfect visit in NOLA. We would stay here again.

This exquisitely elegant, quiet and comfortable apartment is located in historic district of Bywater, once considered a bohemian neighborhood now housing a hipster crowd with it's laid back charm.

It is located in Dauphine, between Louise and Clouet surrounded by most of the shops, restaurants, artists shops, bars and coffee places of the neighborhood.

It is very pleasant to stroll down or ride a bike by Dauphine, Royal or Chartres Streets.
