About the property

4 Bedrooms With Lots Of Character

In the Heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake

The Flynn House is situated steps away from the quaint downtown Queen Street area where you will find world class restaurants, the Shaw Festival and local boutiques. It is also conveniently located near some of Ontario’s most famous wineries.

It was built in the 1860's by George Flynn (a shoemaker) for his family and later during World War II, it was the meeting place for the Knights of Columbus. Rich in history, the home has recently been restored to feature modern amenities while maintaining the property’s old world charm such as wide plank floors and French doors.

The Flynn House sleeps up to 8 people and features two full bathrooms and one powder room with a sink and toilet, four bedrooms, a large dining room and living room and a fully equipped kitchen.

We offer a smoke-free, pet-free environment. All towels and linens are included. Open year-round.

The house is lovely and in a great location. Beautifully decorated, with historic character.

  • 4 of 5

The interior is very well kept with up to date appliances and well appointed bathrooms. The kitchen is lovely. We were a party of 5, parents with adult children attending a family event, at a local Inn, so we needed all four bedrooms for our two night stay. We are familiar with the area, and were aware that the exterior window/door trims needed some work, so were all the more pleased when we entered the house. We would have liked a place to hang clothes in every room, but we did use the armoire in an upstairs bedroom. There are two loveseats in the livingroom so it would have been necessary to use chairs to sit all in the livingroom. It was extremely cold during our stay but the house was warm.... however by the end it became apparent that the central drain was not working so well ... this likely has been since remedied. We would go there again.

Beautiful and Functional Location Downtown

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at Flynn House for an extended weekend with six people. The house is beautifully upgraded with modern amenities but still very historically charming. First thing we noticed when we walked in was how clean it was and how clean it smelled. We called when we got there and they gave us the code to get in the door which is very handy when we had people coming and going and didn't need to worry about extra keys etc. Everything you need in the kitchen. Such a handy location downtown for walking to shopping, restaurants, and Shaw Theatre. Plenty of towels and extra blankets on hand. They even provided some toiletries in the bathrooms. Pull out couch not super comfortable. Love seats in living room are very comfortable for seating but not suitable for sleeping. We were too busy to make use of the yard, but it is lovely as well. The master bedroom upstairs has no closet. Not a huge problem but it would have been nice to have a clothes tree for a few things. No mirror two rooms upstairs but one in the hallway where we put on our makeup when the bathroom was busy. They have a professional hair dryer in the bathroom. Would book again here in a second. Beautiful and functional.

C'est magnifique

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely amazing house and property. It is in immaculate condition, super clean and incredibly refined in style. Such a great location for a quick walk downtown. Couldn't recommend it enough! Even with 8 of us there we had ample space. Such a pleasure to stay here.

Great potential if necessary improvements are made'

  • 3 of 5

1.) First and foremost, there is almost no place in the house to hang-up one's clothes. Given that most people staying there arrive with suitcases that need unpacking, it is difficult to understand why this facility is not provided. Everyone of my family members' first reaction was “Where do I hang up my clothes?!” To add salt to the wound, the only closet that does exist in the house (downstairs bedroom) is padlocked closed. Surely you could keep some portable clothes racks in the laundry room or cellar for your guests to use.

2.) The addition of small bedside tables in the downstairs bedroom would make the room much easier to “live in". Again, you are dealing with guests unpacking their bags and trying to set themselves up as comfortably as possible in their new surroundings.

3.) We successfully used the grill, but two of the three flame shields under the grate are completely rusted out and have collapsed on to the burners. The grill definitely needs replacing.

4.) Over half the light bulbs in the chandelier in the downstairs bedroom were out. As part of their activities, your turn-around crew should check light bulbs to ensure all are working. And speaking of the turn-around crew, there were two bags of laundry left on the front porch throughout our stay.

5.) Finally, and most degrading of the accommodation at the Flynn house, the liquid soap dispensers in all three bathrooms were so watered down that when squeezing down on the spout, all that came on to our hands was some slightly soapy water. I am sure this is well below the standard you want to keep for all amenities at the Flynn House.

Owner's Response: Ross, We are not quite sure if this review has anything to do with the fact that you asked to cancel your reservation a few days prior to your stay.. I offered to let you postpone your stay at a later date this way you would not lose any money. A full refund cancellation was impossible to do as we would not have been able to re-book with such short notice. Firstly, the laundry which was sitting on the porch was there for the laundry company to pick up. Most of the cottages in NOTL do business with a local laundry company which picks up your laundry door to door. They do not want to knock on doors to pick up the laundry from the guests so the porch is the best place to have them pick up from. I am not sure why this was such a problem for you. Secondly, there were 3 light bulbs out of the six that were out which can happen even during your stay. If the cleaner did not pick up on this during her cleaning, perhaps they were okay at the time or she did not notice them. In any case, you could have contacted us directly and we would have had them replaced by our handyman right away during your stay. Thirdly, we had already planned on putting small bedside tables. As the space on the side of the bed is a bit tight, we have to put another form of table (floating shelves) which requires a bit more work from our handyman - our busy season is not the best time to make this change especially since we haven't had this concern from past guests. Fourthly, please remember that this is an historical home which never had closets built into the rooms!! We have tried to incorporate storage where possible in a tasteful way. There is a coat hanger with hangers and a dresser in the main floor bedroom along with a locked closet which stores all the supplies. Not sure how this closet "adds salt to the wounds"??. The upstairs master bedroom has a dresser and the other bedroom has an armoire. Perhaps we can improve upon this by adding some portable clothes racks. Just curious how many people did you have staying there?? Were there more than the allowed 8 guests? That could warrant the reason for the lack of closet space in your view. Fifthly, the grills on the barbecue have been replaced since your stay. Our cleaning crew ensures that there is a full propane tank for each of our guests. Perhaps your next venue for a family gathering should be a hotel not an historical home.
