Reunion Cabin Overlooking the St. Mary River

Bedrooms 7
Space 222 m²
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

7 Bed 3 bathroom Cabin with River, Valley and Prairie Views

Our cabin is 55 minutes from the gate to the Waterton Lakes National park and 25 minutes from Lethbridge. We are closer to Lethbridge but chose to list the cabin under Waterton because Waterton has beautiful scenery and we believe that the view from our cabin is just as beautiful as anything you will see in Waterton.

Our best feature is that your children can stay at no extra cost. (17 years of age and under)

Note: The website charges for children so when you pay with a credit card you need to declare 0 children or the computer will ask you to pay more than you need to.

Our second best feature is that we have queen sized beds for 12 adults (@2 adults per bed) We also have a pull-out couch but we do not provide bedding for that bed so it is most often used by children. (bring sleeping bags or your own bedding for them) We have 7 or 8 foam pads for those who don't mind sleeping on the floor but again you will have to bring sleeping bags for those who sleep on them because we only have bedding for the 6 adult beds.

The web site says that the cabin will sleep 24. That number is based on 12 adults and 12 children, many of whom will sleep on the floor. We have had more than that number use the cabin but we don't recommend it. If you have more than 12 adults, we expect that they will be staying in tents or motor-homes.

By the way camping is not all that great. South Alberta wind can be a problem. Some have had success putting up small 3 man tents on the back balcony and larger tents on the front deck. We don't encourage more than 12 adults but we will not turn them away.

Parties and Events

Yes, you can hold an event in our cabin but there is an extra cost. Also, seating more than 30 for a meal is difficult. The other problem is that we only have 10 to 12 parking spaces close to the cabin.

We we are not interested in having an event held in our cabin that will encourage drinking to excess. As a rule of thumb we usually allow any event that children can attend. We need to approve your event before you book the cabin so give us a call for the price and approval.

What you should bring with you:

We do not supply sheets pillow cases and bath towels so put those items on your to-bring list. Some bring sleeping bags but that will be your choice. In order to make your 'to-bring' list a little shorter we provide hand towels and bath mats for each of the 3 bathrooms. We also provide dish towels and dish-cloths for the kitchen. We will launder these items after you leave at no extra cost to you.

You may use our blankets and comforters but please put pillow cases on the pillows.

Rental Rates

During the summer (May 15 st through September 21st) and Christmas (Dec14 - Jan 6 the rate is $45.00/night per adult with a minimum of 6 adults staying each night. We also do not accept a one night booking. The costs at other times of the year are $40.00 per person per night and the minimum number of adults is only 4. Get a quote by clicking on the words 'Detailed Price' which you will find just above our picture. Or give me a call at 780-993-1342 or 780-464-1342 and ask for Darrel.

Youth Groups - We allow youth groups and youths under the age of 18 stay at no extra cost but we still require that you have the minimum adults and we further require that you have 1 paying adult for 4 youths.

Other Charges

Two other charges you should be aware of are our signup charge of $100.00 and a refundable deposit of $250.00. We don't live nearby so the sign-up charge covers the cost of our agent. VRBO also charges you something based on a percentage but the percentage varies with amount so check the quote before you book.

If you opt to pay the cleaning fee, we still ask that you be reasonable about how you treat our cabin. The general rule is that if you spill something and would normally clean it up at home then we expect that you would do the same at our cabin. If you opt to clean the cabin yourself, we do not expect perfection. We will only deduct from your damage deposit those things that you failed to complete per our exit list. If we cannot get a photo of your failure you will not be charged.

You may pay the full amount up front or pay us half now and pay the balance and the damage deposit 21 days before you arrive.

If you cancel 60 days or more before arrival we will reimburse you all of the funds you have sent us.

We don't live in the cabin so you and those you bring with you will have the place to yourselves. Since we will not be present, we ask that one of your group enforce our rules which are:

1. No smoking in the cabin (Outside is OK)

2. No pets inside the cabin.

3. Before you leave the exit duties must be completed.

The Top Floor

Contains the master bedroom along with a 3 piece bathroom and a covered balcony. You'll find several camping pads in the bedroom closet. You will need them if you you have more children than we have beds.

The Main Floor

There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor and a bathroom complete with tub and shower. On this floor there is also a great room with a fully loaded kitchen as well as a dining area. Outside of the front door on this level is a deck that wraps around the front of the cabin and ends at the back door.

The Basement

Our walkout basement has two regular bedrooms and the 3rd bathroom which is equipped with a tub and shower. The basement has a great-room that can be divided into three parts by curtains. The first part includes a hallway and the children's play area. The second part contains a wall bed and the deep freeze. The third part contains two couches, one of which is a hide-a-bed. The basement door takes you to the lower patio and deck. Make sure that your children keep this door closed. The cabin is mouse free but we can't guarantee that it will stay that way if you leave an outside door open. On windy days we like to sit on the lower deck because it has protection from the wind. We also have natural gas barbeque on that deck. When it was on the upper deck the wind would sometimes blow out the flames. Both decks give you great views of the river and the valley.

Bed Sizes

Six of the beds have Queen sized mattresses. The hide-a-bed is a little smaller with a double sized mattress and is usually used by children in sleeping bags. You can also sleep a couple of children on the two upstairs couches with another on the downstairs couch.

The Play Area

The basement is designed with children in mind. There is a 9 foot high tube slide that starts near the top of the stairs. It winds around a two level playhouse and exits into the basement great room.

The River

Many of our guests love to spend time at the river. It's a catch and release river so the odds of catching a fish are pretty good.

What To Expect When You Arrive

The pillows for each bedroom are in plastic containers under the bed. Hand towels are usually in each bathroom under the sink however if previous guests left the morning you came, you may find them in the clothes dryer. The blankets and comforters are in each closet in plastic bags. The wall bed blankets are in the closet by the deep freeze. The pullout couch is a regular sized bed. The other 6 beds are all queen sized. Some of our guests bring sleeping bags rather than bring sheets but that is your choice. Don’t forget to bring bath towels. We don’t expect you to wash blankets and comforters.

Finding Supplies etc.

There are black plastic bags under the kitchen sink that fit on the kitchen garbage bag holder. You should also be able to find cleaning supplies, Hand Towels and Bath Mats for each bathroom under the sink of each bathroom. The tea towels and dish towels are usually found in a drawer in the kitchen however they may be in the clothes dryer with the hand towels and bath mats. The broom and dustpan are by the side of the fridge. The laundry detergent is in the cupboard under the kitchen counter to the right of the main floor bathroom. The vacuum hose is in a closet in the southwest downstairs bedroom. The Mop bucket and a small step-up ladder are in the closet next to the downstairs bathroom. The two kitchen tables can be expanded to seat 16. If you push them together they seat 12 and if they are pushed together and each leaf is removed, they will seat 10. (The leaf folds under the table.) The kitchen counter can be used to seat another 5. There is also a table behind the bench downstairs and we also keep a booster seat downstairs that can be brought up for a small child. If you have day guests, we have extra tables in the Quonset and extra chairs downstairs in one of the plastic benches.

Kitchen Appliances

The Kitchen has a stove, fridge, dishwasher, toaster, electric griddle crock pot, rice-cooker, mix master, blender, microwave, electric roaster-oven, electric tea kettle, coffee maker and an electric knife. The kitchen is fully stocked with bowls cutting boards, knives, pots, pans and cookie sheets. There are place settings for 24 people. You will find a freezer in the basement great room. You will usually find it with the lid up and unplugged.

Washer and dryer

You are welcome to use the washer and dryer and we try to keep detergent and softener sheets available.

An internet connection is not provided however 3G and 4G service is available for those who have cell phones or Ipads with data plans. You can get directions to our cabin from Google maps by listing our location as

*****-Waterton Lakes National Park-*****

This park is a beautiful place to take your family. It is surrounded by beautiful mountains with lots of lakes, rivers and hiking trails. It takes 55 minutes to reach the gates of the park.

*****-St. Mary’s Reservoir -*****

This reservoir is 6 or 8 miles upstream from the cabin as the crow flies but probably twice that far if you follow the river. I have often noticed fishermen in boats on this reservoir and a number of people who water-ski on this reservoir. The boat launch is just north of the dam.

*****-Wally’s Beach-*****

This beach is on the East side of St. Mary’s reservoir about 2 miles from the dam. We will leave you instructions in the cabin about how you can get there.

This small community is the closest place to get gas (one station) and to get groceries. It is straight east of the cabin on township road 55.

*****-Magrath Golf Course-*****

Magrath has an amazing golf course. I’m not a golfer but I have heard golfers in Edmonton talk about the course so it must be good.

You will go through Cardston on your way to Waterton Lakes National Park. It is a small town but larger than Magrath. (5 gas stations compared to 1) They have an excellent theatre group that performs during the months of June, July and August. While you are in Cardston you may want to check out the Cardston LDS temple. They don’t take tours through the temple but they do have a visitor’s center.

*****-The Remington Carriage Museum-*****

This Museum is located in the town of Cardston, and is the largest of its kind in the world. It displays more than 240 carriages. While at the Museum you should take the time to view the statue of George Woolf riding Seabiscuit. George was from Cardston and the statue will preserve his memory as will the movie Seabiscuit which was released in 2003. On the way to the Museum, you will drive by a park dedicated to Fay Wray. Fay was from Cardston and is most noted for playing the female lead in King Kong which was released in 1933..

This is the largest city in the area and the place to go if you want to shop or to find a large selection of places to eat. It is only twenty five minutes away. Go straight east of the cabin until you hit highway 5. Turn left on highway 5 and within 20 minutes you will be in Lethbridge.

*****-The Great Canadian Barn Dance-*****

If dancing is your thing you will likely enjoy this barn dance which is held Saturday evening during the summer. The evening starts with a meal and ends with dancing to a live band. We really enjoyed the Friday night show. They didn’t have a dance that night but the music was as entertaining and as good as any professional show we have seen.

*****-Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump-*****

This world heritage site is just north and west of Fort MaCleod. The building covers the site with exhibits and interpreters who will help you understand the history of the site.

Directions to the above sites are available in a book that we keep at the cabin.

Cleaning: Our guests are only required to clean the dishes, foot prints, splatters and spills before they leave. We will do the rest of the cleaning. We also give our guests a list of things that need to be put back the way they found them. You may can pay $100.00 in advance to cover the cost of all exit duties including footprints splatters and spills however this charge does not cover the cost of anything that has been damaged.
We provide hand towels, dish towels dish clothes and bath mats but do not provide bath towels sheets or pillowcases. Years ago we provided all of these items but could not get the laundry done before our next guests arrived. We then lowered our rates and had guests bring their own bath towels and linens. The new policy has been well received and we now have no problem getting the items we do provide cleaned and ready for the next guests.
