The Swoop-Duggins House (916 Lafayette Street) is part of the Upper Central Business District's, National Register Historic District, as well as the local Lafayette Square Historic District. At the end of the eighteenth century, the boundaries of New Orleans expanded upriver from the Vieux Carré when the land owned by Don Bertrand and Madame Gravier was divided into streets and city blocks by the Spanish Royal Surveyor, Carlos Trudeau.

The Swoop-Duggins House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Upper Central Business District Historic District on August 10, 1990, and was most likely built around or before 1850. The house is a three-story, three-bay, brick house with an attached two-story service wing; the loft is on the top floor and has it's own private entrance. The area is significant on a state level based on themes of Anglo-American architecture especially relating to residential townhouses. The interior plan of the main house features a stair hall and double rooms. These features, coupled with the extant service wing, show the traditional townhouse origins.

The Swoop-Duggins House is located conveniently 3 blocks from the Amtrak Station, and there are 2 different street car lines within 3 blocks of the loft in each direction (one line heads uptown, and one line heads towards the French Quarter. But the fact that you're just a few blocks walk from the French Quarter is by far the best attribute to this loft.
