About Heidi Schaeffer

I am a semi-retired Author and Psychologist who spends part of the year in Santa Fe and the other part at my lake home near Spooner, WI and Minneapolis, MN. While in Santa Fe, I enjoy the galleries, great restaurants and cultural influences.

Heidi Schaeffer purchased this studio in 2006

Why Heidi Schaeffer chose Downtown

After my son moved to Santa Fe, he and other family members purchased several of the units in the complex and told me that this unit was available for sale. I like it's small size, proximity to the plaza and all the other amenities of Santa Fe. It has been fun to decorate the unit and to make sure it has the amenities that travelers want.

What makes this studio unique

Being walking distant to so many great restaurants, shops and the Plaza (and all it has to offer) is such a great bonus! The hand painted murals and outdoor fireplaces give the entire complex a touch of classic Santa Fe charm that you don't find is most other cities. I feel like I am in a foreign country when in Santa Fe.

Guestbook comments from the manager

My wife and I enjoyed our stay the Casita Chiquita over Christmas week. The Casita is in a great location for exploring Santa Fe and the surrounding areas and is a good value relative to a hotel. The kitchen is stocked with basic necessities and we are able to cook breakfast and one full dinner meal without any problems. Although the bathroom and bedroom are on the small side in terms of storage space, the Casita makes up for that with Santa Fe charm. No problems with with cable or wireless internet. We didn't get a chance to use the hot tub, but it was fully heated, a few steps away, and easy to access. Heidi was very quick to respond to questions and gave us some great tips for site seeing and dining.

If you want to walk to everything - this is your place!

  • 4 of 5

Location, location, location. That is the main asset of this VRBO. It worked perfectly for my husband and my dog as we wanted to be out and about in Santa Fe. We were able to easily walk to all the main sights of Santa Fe including the Plaza and the Railyard. There are several restaurants literally around the corner. We loved Clauflautis for breakfast and the pizza place/brewery was also good. The photos are very accurate. It's a small little casita. The one thing that wasn't clear is that it's kind of down a little alley with other casitas. I would recommend bringing a flashlight to help you find it as there is an outside light, but it wasn't on when we arrived. Also, loved the hot tub.

Almost perfect!

  • 4 of 5

Great little place for my husband and i! Close to the sights in Santa Fe, the hot tub was definitely a great bonus. The room was a tad bit small, and small bed (that's why only 4 stars) but for just a few days stay it was perfect and provided all we needed. Would stay here again!

Great Location/ Perfect for 1

  • 4 of 5

I stayed here for approximately 6 weeks on a work trip. It was just like the pictures. The apartment is quite small but it was perfect for just me and my chihuahua. I think that it would be quite tight for 2 people for this extended amount of time but for a short vacation, it is certainly better than a hotel. The kitchen was very well stocked with cooking supplies, the bathroom was clean, and the bed was comfy. I never did make it out to the hot tub... The location couldn't have been better. It was about a 10 minute walk to the plaza and all of its restaurants and bars and a 10 minute walk to the grocery store and a movie theatre. You could easily walk to the Railyard as well to visit the farmers market and go to the outdoor concerts.

The only improvements I would recommend is trying to find a way to make the shower less dark and possibly putting a screen door on the property since the only window was taken up by the air conditioner. Santa Fe nights are so beautiful and it was a shame not to be able to let any fresh air in.

Overall I would absolutely recommend this property and I would stay here again.

Absolutely adorable...

  • 4 of 5

The Casita Chiquita was perfect for us! We wanted a nice, clean place to stay while on a brief working vacation. While we didn't make much use of it, we absolutely loved that the kitchen was so well appointed. The location was absolutely perfect - we were right in the middle of all the Santa Fe action. We'll definitely stay again.

Cute Spot, Great Location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the casita for four nights and enjoy every moment. Bed and linens are comfortable. Kitchen is well-equipped. Bathroom is modern. Hot water is plentiful (though take short showers! this is the desert!). The place was easy to find, parking was always reserved, and the neighbors were friendly.

Bonus points: hot tub. The hot tub is beautiful, huge, and we had it to ourselves each night.

One note of caution: the space is small. Perfectly comfortable for the two of us, but if you have lots of luggage/other things you will feel cramped here. I say bring a small bag and get outta the house - Santa Fe is at your front door!
