About Emmaline Thibodeaux

I am a direct descendant of the original Acadian people. My ancestors were deported from Nova Scotia to France. The Spanish government transported Acadian exiles from France to Louisiana on the ship 'Le Saint Remi,' and it arrived in Louisiana on September 9, 1785. I was raised in a family of seven children . Since I was the oldest girl I helped my parents with the younger children, and helped in the family business. In high school I was a cheerleader, a band member, and in l960 I was crowned the 1st Crawfish Queen. I love music, cooking, gardening, and flower arranging.

I have four beautiful children and twelve grandchildren. I love speaking in French, and

meeting people.

Emmaline Thibodeaux purchased this house in 1985

Why Emmaline Thibodeaux chose Saint Martinville

In June 1986, my Mother gave me two and a half acres of property that belonged to her grandfather, Renee Chauffe, Sr. It was through the grace of God that I stumbled onto an old house built by Andre' Boudreaux in 1935. I was taken by surprise when in the house there was a picture of Christ as the High Priest holding "the Chalice and the Eucharist" and it said,'"Christ Wants Your Heart.'" I knew instantly that this house was very special, and in 1989 I began remodeling it with the understanding that one day I would love to tell my story of 'La Petite Voie'.

I am so proud of my Acadian heritage and so thankful that my mother and father gave me a piece of history and today it is my privilege to invite guest to feel the peace and tranquility of 'La Petite Voie de St.Therese.'

What makes this house unique

It is with true devotion that I invite you to 'La Petite Voie' de St. Therese knowing full well that you will feel the Spirit of Peace, Love, and Understanding. The home accommodates 6 people comfortably with a precious full kitchen, and a lovely dining area. The living area,

bedrooms, and bath are enhanced with antique furnishings and allows one to feel that they are taken back in history. A small box of Coty Powder is placed on the bedroom vanity exactly like I remember it in the Chauffe Plantation House. The foyer and the living area is really quite charming and there you will enjoy satellite TV, Wifi, music video, and books to read. Guest will definitely feel comfortable on the outdoor wrap around porch with a swing, cypress rockers, and sofa sitting areas. A unique cypress piece is the outside cistern that preserves water for watering the plants.

There is statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that comes from the Convent in Grand Coteau and a statue of St. Therese, my patron saint, from my RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) class. The azalea bushes in the springtime are beautiful and the live oak trees are so stately and are always bursting with beauty. There are pecan, golden rain, red tip maple, magnolia, red bud, dogwood, and Bradford pears trees that are waiting to greet you when you come to visit. It will be a pleasure to welcome you into my home with heartfelt gratitude.

Come share an experience of Cajun Country hospitality.

and a retreat away from home.

Our 2nd stay was just as lovely

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd time staying at this lovely home in St. Martinville, LA. It was a great choice again. How many vacation rental owners greet you with a hug upon your arrival! It was like seeing family after 2 years! And staying in the home was just like that too. With a large container of chicken salad sandwiches waiting for us in the fridge, a homemade cake, soft drinks, snacks, delicious ginger cookies, teas, fruit, and much more! The home is stocked with everything you will need and more that you didn't know you would end up needing. The place is charming as always, with the lovely antiques and cozy decor. It is also as clean as always! Really impresses me, that a home with so many lovely decorative items, can be maintained so well. Thank you again for such a warm and welcoming environment for our stay in Louisiana this winter vacation!

Owner's Response: What a beautiful review from a beautiful family. One morning, I enjoyed cooking French Bread (Lost Bread/Pain Perdue) for Jason and his family. Not everybody came; however, Jason and his daughter enjoyed the breakfast with hot Boudin (Cajun Sausage with rice and onion tops)and Cracklings. I did tell Jason that when I was growing up the Boudin and Cracklings were eaten with Steen's Molasses Syrup and hot French Bread. He tried everything that I told him, and I was amazed that he is such a great Dad and a wonderful musician. Also, I was really happy when his three daughters played and named my Homemade Cotton Dolls, Emily, Mary, and Jane. Jason sent me a picture of the dolls laying on the bed in the Evangeline Room. I hope I will see Jason and his lovely family again, since the house seems vacant without them.

BEST CAJUN COUNTRY HOME

  • 5 of 5

We recently completed our third one-week stay at this Acadian-style home. Emmaline is a terrific hostess, and has spent 30 years restoring this exceptionally fine property. It is very clean, comfortable and has central heating and air. The home is very private and centrally located near Breaux Bridge for great day-trips. The covered wrap-around porch has numerous rocking chairs. Over the years, we have rented numerous times through VRBO. This is definitely the best!

Just like being at Grandma's house

  • 5 of 5

We hauled our motorcycles down from Iowa and had a fantastic week. Emmaline and the whole town of Breaux Bridge made us feel right at home. If you are looking for a place to stay in Louisiana where you can venture out and explore all that Louisiana has, you've found the place to return and feel at home. Emmaline even had sandwiches and cake waiting when we arrived! You can't go wrong staying here!

Scott Pape and gang

Owner's Response: When I first met Scott, " He said, I bet you were wondering what we would look like, since we were coming down as a motorcycle gang." Well, he was right; however, Scott and his friends were just fun loving individuals that couldn't wait to see what Southwest Louisiana (Cajun Country) had to offer. Every day it was a different adventure. I know Tracy enjoyed the warm weather. There journey along the bayous, with our Japanese Magnolia and Bradford Pear Trees must have been a pretty site. I know they traveled on the "Plantation Road" to see the Historic Houses, and one day they went to Houma, Louisiana, where the fishing is fantastic. Honestly, I felt like I had traveled with Scott and the motorcycle gang, since I couldn't wait to hear about their daily adventures. Scott showed me a picture of his beautiful family, and I am hoping one day he will bring them to meet me. Gosh, I am really fortunate to meet such fascinating people, and I know that they will not forget the King Cake (Raspberry) that is served in bakeries, etc. before Lent begins. Guys, Come back!

Owner's Response: I really believe that these two couples were guided to my country home, "La Petite Voie de St. Therese." Just minutes into our first conversation, Robert said, "He knew of people that were from the Breaux Bridge area and come to find out this was a cousin of mine. Thank you for all the blessings we receive, such as Robert and guest. They really enjoyed sitting and rocking on the porch. Elaine spotted cardinals nestled in a huge Azalea bush, and she could tell you what kind of bird seed they liked. Well, I know that I need to listen to Elaine in so many little ways. Thank you for making my home your home. Everything was so clean!! God Bless all of you!!

Mardi Gras basecamp

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 3 nights at Emmaline's place. We have been doing Homeaway/VRBO for more than 10 years and have stayed at more than 20 places. This one is right at the top of the list. The kitchen was well-stocked including coffee and tea and creamers and sugar. The decor is just beautiful. The location is in the country, very quiet, off the beaten path, but convenient to Lafayette. If you stay here be sure to take your time looking around in the house. It is full of interesting period decorations. Emmaline will be my first call when we visit Lafayette again.

Owner's Response: I marvel at the beautiful people that I meet in my life, and MarySue and Terry are those people. I am so happy that you enjoyed the peace and quietness of the country, and yet you traveled just a few miles to Lafayette for the Mardi Gras festivities. I know that on Monday evening, MarySue said she was freezing; yet the weather on Tuesday (Mardi) was wonderful. It is truly my pleasure to have my guest enjoy Cajun Hospitality with a homemade cake (gateau), boudin, or chicken salad sandwiches. Please come back to "La Petite Voie de St. Therese." Merci beaucoup - Thank you very much!!

Wonderful stay in Breaux Bridge LA area

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in Emmaline's beautiful home in the Breaux Bridge LA area. The house has all the amenities you would need plus many more e.g. extra shampoos, lotions, many books and pamphlets about the history of the area and things to do, extra ice and ice bags to take with you every day, beautiful china and utensils ( a Mardi Gras themed table was set for our arrival plus Mardi Gras wreaths, and a Mardi Gras tree with beautiful decorations, and food and desserts in the refrigerator), and comfortable beds with fine linens. Everything was top notch and what a beautiful original Acadian home in a great location just outside of town. We fell in love with the people who live in the area and their customs and kindness. Many times we were just driving around and people were so kind and would wait on us to turn or back up or even let us go before them even when it was not our turn to go. People were very friendly and would start a conversation or ask us about where were from i.e Indiana. However, no one was more genuine or kind than Emmaline herself. She was a joy to meet and will make sure that everything is great during your stay. We met with her on more than one occasion and shared many laughs telling stories of our past and inquiring about her life while she shared life moments also. We would love to return to this area again and to visit Emmaline and her family as she is that special and will spread joy wherever she is. Don't hesitate to book her beautiful home as you will not be disappointed. Lots of history in the area and if you like historic areas, go to Breaux Bridge, St Martinville, New Iberia, Lafayette, Franklin, and of course New Orleans is a couple hours away.

Owner's Response: Yes, it was my joy to spend such a wonderful time with all of you. Of course, I had spoken to Michael and I could not wait to meet him. I enjoyed hearing about their family, and I got to see a picture of Marla's new born great-grand child with his big brother. On Sunday, after our Christian duties, we met and decided to go find a great place to eat. Well, we all piled in my Tahoe, and I drove them to Pat's in Henderson, we left there to seek out two other restaurants Landry's and Crawfish Town USA; yet, we ate at Pat's Restaurant on Bayou Amy. The seafood platter (fried shrimp, fish, crab patty, frog leg, baked potato, and seafood gumbo was delicious. We all enjoyed our meals; yet, I had take my new friends to Champagne's Bakery in Henderson where their specialty is pink cookies. Sweet dough cookies with blackberries are delicious too, and I brought my husband, Charlie a large cinnamon roll. Back to Breaux Bridge where we drank coffee together, and we just laughed out loud; we shared memories of our parents and the way we were raised. I can truly say that I was given gifts of love and laughter from Cheryl, Marla and Michael. Thank you for such a beautiful review.
