Effective base for week in San Diego
This property ended up being great for a week in San Diego centered around a conference at the Convention Center. It was a little bit of a commute (25-30 minute walk/$10-$15 rideshare), but as long as you take that into account, it was a nice quiet place to come back to each night. Accommodations were a bit dated but perfectly functional and comfortable. All-electronic combination entry is nice, and John the host was very communicative.

Cozy place
Our first time in San Diego and we’re happy we chose this place. Accessible to transpo if you just want to explore the city. Walking distance to Gaslamp Quarter too! Very nice experience . Complete amenities . Good thing coz we forgot our shampoo & conditioner. The owner was very attentive to our needs. It’s a nice home away from home.

Close to everything and a lot of Activity
Writing this for those who want all the details: The space is typical for city living and most who are traveling for a city/party experience are not going to care about what I list but if your days are not for partying and are a bit "off of the flow of mainstream", you may want to take some of this into account. I was not traveling for a party and my days were very early getting out and back in. Overall: space is fine: it's clean with a comfortable bed, well-stocked kitchen (including cutting knives), A/C and space heaters. It's not a bad neighborhood (there are homeless around but they don't bother you unless you bother them). Couple things I wish other reviews would have mentioned: - make sure you check spam for check-in email because it may end up there (I never received it and it was not in spam ... just know, that's how it comes and in Word format) - there is no driveway for loading and unloading, so just a forewarning if you have more than a couple bags because of parking (may have to double-park with hazards on to unload/load) - if you're accustomed to a very quiet neighborhood, this one is noisy (it's the city): cars constantly going by with loud bass that can be felt while in bed, one of the permanent neighbors talks VERY loud, and other guest can be loud ... the good thing is, there's an abundance of fans that can be used to create white noise (except for the loud bass that can be felt) - I was in the downstairs small apartment in the back of the house and outside the bedroom window is the "common area" gazebo. Sometimes the guests leave the lights on all night and yes, that penetrates the blinds (no black-out curtains). On one night, I returned and there was a party going on outside the window. Had to turn on all the fans to drown out the people and sleep with a pillow over my eyes because it was prior to the quiet time of 10 P.M. Also, my schedule had me up at 3 - 4 A.M. for my start, and one guest repeatedly hung out back in the gazebo because that's the smoking area: a bit uncomfortable to know there's someone right outside the bedroom window while trying to get ready for the day. - parking is at a premium, for those who can't walk far: I stayed a total of 8 days and three times (a couple times during the week and on Saturday) had to park across from Jack-in-the-Box. If you're a good parallel parker, with a smaller car, you can squeeze in somewhere in the front most days. If not,. gotta go around the block.

About the host

I grew up in Northampton Massachusetts, a town with countless beautiful old homes and lots of woods. I spent countless days in my youth building tree forts never knowing that those 2 dynamics would intersect at this point. Upon arriving in San Diego with an interest in building and purchasing real estate, I became immediately interested in the largely neglected Victorian buildings in this area of town. This property became a labor of love for me many years ago and I hope that legacy will be carried forward by my 3 sons. My wife if Japanese, so our family often divides our time between 2 very different worlds, both with much to offer.

Why they chose this property

It is our hope that our guests will appreciate the attention to detail and uniqueness of design that has been incorporated into every aspect of this property.

What makes this property unique

This property is strategically located close to most of San Diego's most popular destinations. It's central location and proximity to a newly revitalized downtown, airport, beaches and parks affords our guests the best possible experience while visiting San Diego.
