Volcano house description

Lava Tube Hale has been a magical retreat for adventurers seeking to experience and explore the Volcano area.

After hiking one of the 150 trails the park has to offer nothing hits the spot like a soak in the hot tub/whirlpool under the covered lanai. Situated in the rain forest the lanai and house are very private with no neighbor in sight. Guests have the option of showering inside or in the outside shower under the stars.

Lave Tube Hale (house) is well appointed with full kitchen for cooking or reheating meals from one of the many wonderful restaurants in Volcano Village just minutes away. We provide you with bottled water, coffee, teas and cocoa. When you arrive there will be an island welcome basket with bananas, papayas and a pineapple. To make is easy to slice your Pineapple we even have a Pineapple Slicer

Kick back, read or lounge by the fireplace. All are encouraged in the living room as well as playing board games with family and friends. Music/CDS and books are here to enjoy. Complementary WIFI is available for those who wish to keep up with social networking. A good old fashion telephone also is available for local calls.

The guest room has two twin beds, TV with DVD player and movies. The master bedroom has a queen bed with a thick memory foam pad to ensure the most restful sleep, plenty of comfortable bedding and linens throughout.

Kids and adults enjoy exploring the backyard rainforest complete with its very own lava tube!

Why Bernadette Boteilho chose Volcano

Michael and Kerry fell in love with the magic of Volcano and the rainforest so much that they bought this hale. They use it as a place to enjoy nature with family and friends. This special get-away spot is like nowhere else on earth and has been a retreat for them, as well as for folks from all around the world. We hope you´ll find some time to experience this incredible place in Volcano, home of Pele, and share some highlights about your stay at Lava Tube Hale with us. Aloha pumehana!

Guestbook comments from the manager

This enchanted cottage helped us enjoy a perfect family holiday and volcano experience. Our grandchildren (age 8 & 10) loved the jungle and the lava tube—and everything else about our visit.

Very clean and cozy renovated home—very comfortable and such a unique location!

  • 5 of 5

Great little cottage! Renovated, clean, all the amenities. A private oasis in a gorgeous setting. Bernie took excellent care of us—very responsive, and she went above and beyond to communicate during the weeks leading up to the recent activity with the volcano. Nothing to be concerned about with recent steam/ash plumes, and it’s nowhere near the lava activity 20 miles to the south. Go and visit and see old Hawaii at its finest. Loved Volcano Village. Beds were very comfy, loved the nice touch of sweet bread and fresh fruit. Bernie has thought of everything. Highly recommend Lava Tube Hale!

LOVED this Place

  • 5 of 5

This place was the best place we stayed at during our stay in Hawaii. We spent 2 days here, and wished we would have spent at least another day or 2. The house was spotless when we arrived, with a nice basket of goodies. The bed was comfortable. The hot tub was so relaxing and the shower outside with hot water was wonderful! The area was private. Bernie was very helpful. We visited during the earthquakes and volcano activity, and Bernie was so nice in keep us up to date and making sure we were comfortable. If we ever return to The Big Island, we would definitely stay here! LOVED this place and felt like home.

Really enjoyed Hawaii Volcano National Park

  • 4 of 5

When we arrived the house was clean and well presented, the manager even left a card for our anniversary very thoughtful. We booked this house for several reasons. Location, privacy, hot tub, washer/dryer and internet. Location was great, privacy was a little to secluded for us, hot tub not comfortable being in, washer/dryer was great, INTERNET WAS HORRIBLE. This was our 40th anniversary trip to we went to Oahu for 5 days so when we got to the Big Island we wanted a house with a washer/dryer and internet. We both run companies and we needed to do catch up on some work and laundry before our next Island adventure. Well we did get our laundry done but the work we had to go into Hilo to a coffee house for their WIFI. I did call the manager but didn't receive a response until we had checked out and was at the airport. I know WIFI can be a little tricky sometimes but don't advertise WIFI if you can't get it and number one thing is call your guest back when there is a problem. If your owner pays for their WIFI I would recommend they switch companies. Other that the WIFI we had a good time.

Owner's Response: Mahalo for your review. Sorry that you did not find the hot tub comfortable and felt to secluded. As for the internet it is working. The problem was that the Ethernet cable was frayed and has since been replaced. I always return any calls from our guests as soon as possible. With the following exceptions. If I'm at work, I'll return it as soon as I arrive at home. There are times that I go to Kona and don't get home until late in the evening. If it's any emergency I will return their call. But if not I'll do it first thing in the morning. I send all of our guests our contact numbers both home and cell with their check in information. They also have it on their welcome letter at the cottage when they check in. So that they can reach me on my cell if I'm not at home. I know how important it is to be able to contact us when there is a problem.

Marvelous home close to VNP

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I absolutely LOVED Lava Tube Hale. The owners obviously take pride in their hospitality and this wasn't lost on us. From the folded wash towels to the fresh fruit and flowers, I feel that we couldn't have found a better place to stay on the island. The hot tub was an extra bonus, and I took full advantage of the outdoor shower! And the proximity to VNP was great! We went late at night to see the lava in the caldera -- just a 5 minute drive -- it was a sight I'll remember for the rest of my life. The house is very convenient to Hwy 11 and not that far from beaches, etc.

We cancelled a previous booking in favor of this one and we're so glad we did. Thanks again for accommodating us on short notice. We hope the volcanic activity doesn't turn away prospective tenants. This very private property makes you feel part of nature!

Very well equipped house. Loved it! My daughter thought the room with twin beds smelled like kitty littter? WiFi didn’t work at first but we repaired the frayed wire and worked fine. Overall awesome rental would recommend it highly!

Cozy Volcano Hale

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Lava Tube Hale very much. My family loved the hot tub and outdoor shower. We had such a fun time and it was wonderful to come home here after exploring the Volcanoes National Park all day. It was cool and rainy the whole time we visited the area so the warm fire was nice also. Everything was very clean and neat and the welcome basket was adorable.
