We purchased this property while my son attended Northwestern State University. He wanted to live near campus and this duplex home was perfectly located within a short commute. The attached fully equipped extra unit allowed for the design of a guest suite apartment. He has graduated, and we now consider this guest suite our family’s vacation retreat, known to us as “The Cabin in the City”. We have worked very hard to make our home comfortable for people to enjoy and use.

Natchitoches is home to Northwestern State University and many locally famed festivals. This historic college town has so much to offer visitors. Arts, Music, and Drama events foster creativity in this lively and active artist community. Natchitoches is known as the 'City of Lights' offering its annual multiple week, 'Christmas Lights' show that dazzle all who attend. Festivals and food delicacies can be enjoyed year-round.
This property is unique because it's location is in the heart of the city, within walking distance to the famed Historic Front Street, Cane River, downtown area restaurants, and other locations of interest. The City is celebrating all year long, as it hosts various events and festivals! Every year in November/December, Natchitoches is the 'City of Lights' for the holiday season. Since its beginnings in 1927, the Festival of Lights has grown into Louisiana's premier community based Christmas Celebration. A family celebration, the festival is held annually beginning late in November through early January. Over 150,000 visitors flock to this historic town and are treated to a gigantic parade, star studded live entertainment throughout the day, dozens of food vendors, carnival rides, river cruises, carriage and trolley tours, and a spectacular fireworks show. After which, over 300,000 brightly colored Christmas lights and over 70 huge set pieces light the city along the scenic Cane River Lake. The Christmas Festival of Lights has been listed as a 'Top 100 Events in North America' by the American Bus Association for numerous years and has also been honored as one of the 'Top 20 Events' for December on six occasions by the Southeast Tourism Society. The Natchitoches Christmas Festival of Lights is a partner with the Holiday Trail of Lights.
Also, the surrounding area is great for Fishing and water activities. Travel just a few miles north to Toledo Bend Lake for all kinds of water Marina for outstanding boating and fishing.
Guest Book Review: "This was our third year in a row to stay at this Cabin-in-the-City and have our grandchildren visit us there during the Thanksgiving Holiday, and the beginning of the city's XMAS Lights Festival. We create beautiful memories, and we will come again. Thank you for sharing this cabin and allowing us to make this our home during the holidays. We will return again!"
[Owners email Response: We enjoy being your host and helping you create memories with your family. We hope you enjoyed the decorations, the Xmas tree, and the goody treats.]
Very quiet. Roomy and comfortable. Would have been nicer if there had been a pull out sofa instead of the air mattress.
My husband and I decided to get away for our 45th wedding anniversary. He had a desire to see the sports museum so we planned this in August. It was very easy to find and not very far from historic district, restaurants, river, and church. We found the bed very confortable and everything was spotless. The neighborhood is very quiet and the cabin charming. We enjoyed our stay and the hospitality. We even received an anniversary card with a tin bucket filled with goodies. We felt special, Thank you!!
My husband and I found this house to be perfect for our stay while visiting NWSU. The location is ideal for anyone working at/visiting the university--it is just a short, easy walking distance from the school. The location is also ideal for walking to Front Street and dining out in that area. With a park on the other side of the intermittent creek/drainage sluice near the house, it feels almost like one is not in the city so close to everything. This place was perfect for us.....very clean, easy to find, excellent internet connection, and most importantly---quiet. Thank you!
Great place to stay with everything you need! We so enjoyed our stay again this year at the 'Cabin-in-the-City. It feels like home with its full-size appliances. We love watching TV on the BIG screen. The cable / WIFI /internet connection is good. Big bathroom; the water pressure is great and the shower head feels spa-like. The kitchen coffee supplies were a nice touch. We hope to stay here again for the other upcoming events in this area, Classic Car Show, Christmas Lights, and Bike Rallies.
I recently booked the Primrose Creole Cabin (at last minute) for a weekend getaway. Me, my daughter, and son-n-law had a great time walking to shops and restaurants with the convenience of being able to go to and from the cabin by foot. The cabin was very nice and well kept. It was quiet and even the airbed was comfortable and the shower was great!! I have rented through VRBO several times and a comfortable bed and good roomy shower with nice water pressure are two important aspects of my stay. We slept very well and ventured out again the next day. Thank you for the wonderful time and I look forward to staying again in the future.
The cabin was conveniently located to historic downtown. Location was in a lower income neighborhood. Interior was comfortable but lacked some of the special touches we have found in other VRBO properties. It does not appear to be rented regularly and needed a touch up cleaning for items like the dead bug in the bathtub. Overall we had a relaxing weekend with good food, good shopping, and good rest.
Come explore the history of Natchitoches Parish and discover the stories of the people of Cane River Country. Visit the Cane River National Heritage Area.
From early Native American Indian inhabitants to the French explorers and priests to the American arrival in the early-1800s, Natchitoches has lived through hundreds of years. They arrived into the United States in 1812 and to this day the Indian, French, Creole, African American and Anglo cultures mix their cultures, traditions, and talents, and yet they remain distinct.
