About this property

All Season, Open Plan Contemporary With Stunning Views

This contemporary 4 bedroom house is situated on 80 rolling acres of woods and fields only 2 1/2 miles from Woodstock village. The hillside location provides expansive views across the valley as well as west to the Bridgewater hills. The sunsets are magnificent sitting on the expansive second floor deck. A brook runs through the property feeding a gorgeous, natural pond below the house which is great for swimming in warm weather.

The house sits off a quiet town road in South Pomfret, just over the Woodstock line. It is situated in the middle of a gently sloping 5 acre field, affording expansive views. With 4 queen bedrooms (and two twin beds in open basement area) and 4 full baths. The house sleeps 7-8 people comfortably. An open living/dining/kitchen area on the second floor opens onto an expansive wrap-around deck- with four operable, glass, sliding doors for easy access. The sloped living room ceiling climbs up to 11' on the window line offering expansive views and plenty of natural light. Two queen bedrooms and a bath on second floor and two queen bedrooms on first floor with 2 bathrooms. The full, open basement has two twins beds and a fourth full bath and the sauna. There are comfortable sitting, living rooms on both the first and second floors. We have a built in bar with a bar fridge in the living room. The operable fireplace is on the second floor and the new gas fireplace is in the first floor sitting room. All beds have new mattresses and the house was totally gutted and renovated- new walls, windows, heat... . The upstairs living/dining/kitchen area has dramatic floor-to-ceiling glass show casing the spectacular views and scenery. The second floor living room features a mini-fridge bar area with several sitting areas and a large screen TV. The downstairs living room has a gas fireplace and several sitting areas as well. There is a brand new sauna on the basement.

The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove (electric), dishwasher and disposal. Appliances include microwave, toaster oven and two coffee makers. The teak dining room table expands to accommodate 8 people and is located directly in front of sliding glass doors that take advantage of the sweeping western views and sunsets.

WE have a gorgeous new fire pit terrace just outside with spectacular mountain views in two directions as well as complete privacy. There are six Adirondack chairs around the fire pit and several tree stumps that make good seating or nice table. There is a new wooden dock at the edge of the pond for sitting or swimming. There is some sand at this end of the pond for comfortable footing while swimming. The pond is 12 feet deep in the middle and is stream-fed with an overflow pipe for a consistent year-round levels. The property climbs up to the top of the adjoining hillside with our woods and trails running through out for fun hiking. The nearby dirt roads encourage wonderful hiking or biking and there are many hiking trails nearby.

The brand new Azek second floor deck provides a stunning setting for enjoying the tranquility and scenery in the valley-day or night. We have a round table and six chairs on the deck as well as one chaise long for your use. With its height above the fields, there are minimal insects and pleasant cool breezes.

The property works wonderfully for those seeking serenity or an active base of operations for a multitude of year-around sports in the area. It is incredibly private but the internet works well!

Quintessential Vermont
Deer Run is obviously a well loved home and is certainly well cared for. The owners were not only prompt in response to inquiries but also touched base on several occasions during my month long stay in order to ascertain that all was going well with the house and property. This capacious home has absolutely everything one could ask for from cooking utensils in the kitchen to monogrammed towels in the bathrooms to artful, craftsman style furniture in the living room to those commandingly stunning views from the deck. I enjoyed every single day in the house! And, needless to say, I certainly enjoyed the wonderful property as well. The pretty pond is a great place to watch the Great Blue Heron and the Merganser Ducks or to quietly read on a Fall afternoon. The open fields surrounding the house were also very scenic especially in the mornings when the crows flocked in for feeding! The ski-mobile trail up the hill in the woods was a nice trail on which not only to look for wildflowers and mushrooms but also to find the solace and communion with nature that is quintessential Vermont to me.

My husband and I live in the Boston area. We raised our three, grown sons going to our Vermont house often for both skiing in the winter as well as spring and fall weekends. We bought the house over 40 years ago because of the setting. My husband and I now spend much time in VT, he is mostly retired. We love the hiking and biking in the area most. Several months ago, we finished a total renovation on the house, including moving it to a new sight on our land! The new setting is amazing! Our family chooses to gather at our VT house for Christmas every year. Our boys now live in Manhattan and San Francisco, but it is our house in Vermont that brings us all back together!

Why they chose this property

The gorgeous views and the peaceful setting simply can not be beat! The house site is perfect for relaxing and also for taking off on many different athletic pursuits during any season of the year. The close proximity to Woodstock town and the total serenity of the location combine to restore and rejuvenate almost overnight! The massive glass sliding doors in many rooms allows ample sunlight and the western views and sunsets are superb! The open fields are refreshing and the hiking trails abundant. Our pond is a wonderful resource for swimming in the summer or skating in the winter months. Woodstock town has so much to offer from cultural activities to entertainment; the charm of New England is tangible in this idyllic village.

What makes this property unique

The open floor plan brings our family and friends together in a very relaxed and comfortable setting - on both the first and second floors. The new AC keeps us more comfortable on warmer days. We love the concept of all being together in front of the fire, cooking in the kitchen, or hanging on the deck. Our furnishings are comfortable and low-key, the ceilings upstairs are high and we get lots of sunlight. Ours is a happy house!
