Beautiful garden hideaway in Victoria

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for a week in this lovely apartment while attending a workshop and meetings at UVic. What a wonderful space with thoughtful hosts! The garden is truly beautiful, and the apartment is clean and comfortable. The owners had supplied me with coffee and some breakfast goodies, like fruit, bread, eggs, and yogurt, and were kind enough to replace the super-comfy down duvet and pillows with a non-allergic option for my husband when he joined me mid-week. Location is convenient to UVic, either a 10 minute bus ride from a stop just up the road, or a scenic 30 minute walk up and over Mt Tolmie park. Downtown is about 20 minutes by bus, which arrives about every 15 minutes during the week, so it was easy enough to get downtown for dinner and drinks every night. Victoria dining is fantastic for seafood lovers!

A charming garden suite close to Victoria BC and many sights

  • 5 of 5

I booked this Garden Suite property for a get-away for my husband's 69th birthday and it did not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded my expectations and I was so pleased that my husband really enjoyed our stay here as well. The private entrance, lovely garden, gracious hosts and clean and comfortable suite were very enjoyable throughout our entire stay. In addition to being so nice, the bonus is that we were only minutes from downtown Victoria BC and only a 20 minute drive to Butchart Gardens and about 25 minutes from Sidney where we enjoyed lunch at Haro's Restaurant and Bar at Beacon Park with views of the water and shopping in the interesting downtown, especially the darling Kimberely Dawn's Baby Boutique (a great place for Grandparents) and Tanner's bookstore. During our stay at Garden Suite we enjoyed visits and walks to nearby Mount Tolmie Park with its old Oak trees and fabulous views, the small but pretty gardens at the University of Victoria, the beautiful and unique Abkhazi Garden and a full day at Butchart Gardens. During the one rainy morning we had we were very comfortable relaxing and reading in the Garden suite, looking out the large picture window at their private garden while drinking the fresh brewed coffee from coffee beans they had provided. Nearby pubs and eating places we enjoyed included Smugglers Cove Pub, Christie's Carriage House Pub, Blue's Bayou Café near Butchart Gardens/Brentwood Bay, lunch at Belleville's Watering Hole & Diner in Vcitoria BC and two evenings of delicious Chinese takeout from Golden City Restaurant on Fisgard St. on Victoria BC. The morning we checked out we had a delicious breakfast at McRae's pub which is within walking distance of Garden Suite. McRae's is a neighborhood gathering place and the breakfast was delicious. Other nearby sights and activities that we didn't have time for during this visit include Craigdarroch Castle, Beacon Hill Park, Tally-Ho Carriage Tours and tea at the renovated Empress Hotel. After all of our daily excursions we looked forward to returning to the Garden Suite and all of its amenities. We are so appreciative of proprietors Ron and Cathie who were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We look forward to staying at Garden Suite again during our next visit to Victoria BC.

Rejuvenating Time Away

  • 5 of 5

We immensely enjoyed our stay and WILL be back. I can't say enough good things about this place! I almost don't want to tell everyone about this one for fear it becomes all booked up next time we want to visit! Hospitable hosts who allow you privacy in your own space overlooking a beautiful garden, complete with hummingbirds!. It's in a quiet area with ample parking. The first thing I noticed was how clean everything was... Not just cuz it's fairly new but cuz you can tell the hostess takes pride in it. There is a super comfortable queen bed, 2 reclining chairs with footstools, shower with new bar of soap, laundry hamper, kitchen area (she even had a few items there for our use like spices, coffee, tea, fruit, half dozen eggs, homemade jam and bread so we didn't have to rush to store), kitchen table and 2 chairs, covered deck with outdoor table and 2 chairs. Suite next door also has 2 chairs and table at other end of deck area which u could use if needed more seats. Oh and umbrellas cuz it's Victoria after all! We only needed to use them once though in our week long stay. By the way, we never heard our neighbor's. Heard a little bit of upstairs from hosts but hardly worth mentioning as wasn't very often. I would highly recommend this Waterloo Haven as your home away from home. Thanks to our generous host and hostess! Hope to see you again soon.
