About Susan Metzger

I am an artist and teacher. When I moved to Colorado from the Virgin Islands after Hurricane Hugo, I looked at a lot of houses. I fell in love with this one immediately and felt extremely lucky to purchase this home in 1991. I've always loved old houses - and my artwork is of historic architecture.

Susan Metzger purchased this bungalow in 1991

Why Susan Metzger chose Palisade

When I married 9 years ago, I couldn't give up this house, I had spent years planting roses and exotic plants - and it had lots of happy memories. When I moved in, the house had the original wooden shingle roof covered with moss, and the original wiring. I only had 6 outlets! I sadly redid the roof in 2002 when it started to leak, and I had the wiring redone and added an outlet in the bathroom in 1997. My mother is in her 80's and if she decides to move to Colorado, I want her to be able to move into this wonderful place where you can walk to the grocery, library. post office and bakery.

What makes this bungalow unique

Few of the houses in Palisade have as many original features. Sash windows, pine floor, high ceilings, wooden pantry. The entry to the basement is a trap door. And a bubble bath in the original clawfoot bathtub has been a constant pleasure. Enjoy a quiet old fashioned pace of life.

Wondferful quaint house!!

  • 5 of 5

This house was close to everything and suited us well for our Palisade weekend. I had read in the reviews that some didn't like the claw footed bathtub and handheld shower attachement, but we loved it! Very unique and truly takes you back to another era; which staying in a house that is 102 years old should do. We are already planning our return trip next year.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you had a good time and enjoyed the tub! For me it was a selling point when I bought the house in 1991. We look forward to your return.

2 couples visiting from Denver. We rented bikes a few blocks away and rode them around town to the different wineries, brewery & distillery! All if the food we had, all within walking distance were delicious! The house was like stepping back in time, beautiful with everythting needed for a great stay! We WILL be back!

A magical stay

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I stayed for a week at the Lavender Cottage and loved every detail, every minute. The cottage is a bit of retro-paradise and we both grew up in an old house so this was a little bit like coming home. The house cozy-size but the rooms are spacious and airy. The front and back porches act as extra rooms in the summer months. The kitchen has everything you'd need . It's a short walk to the stores, Farmer's Market, etc. The cottage is not for folks who prefer showers over baths or who require total silence for sleeping. There is a train that runs regularly nearby and the pups next door (lovely dogs) like to greet the day at about 6 a.m. with a few short barks. If you use the AC, or the windows are closed, it's all pretty quiet but I prefer open windows and the lovely ceiling fans. I have been coming to Palisade to see family for years and this is the first time I've tried a VRBO there. It was perfect for us. PS: The owner is very responsive and helpful. The yard is gorgeous.
