Lovely adobe brick home on 1 acre is centrally located between Santa Fe, Los Alamos & Taos (All are skiing and hiking destinations). Great starting point for your adventures! Named for the Catalpa trees that shade the property it is close to Pueblo Indian Villages, The Santuario de Chimayo, Native Ruins, Hot Springs, Spas, Santa Fe Opera, Mountains, Hiking, Rafting, Skiing, Snowshoeing, Sight seeing, incredible Restaurants, Art Galleries, ....whew.....and, CULTURE, CULTURE, CULTURE!
The home has a private seasonal salt water, solar heated lap pool, multiple outdoor 'niches' for private time or contemplation as well as a screened outdoor eating area. There are well established trees on the property providing soothing shade during the summer months but there are also areas to sit if you want to take in the sun! If you have never stayed in a true adobe home, you are missing out on a great experience. Being surrounded by bricks made from 'Mother Earth' is comforting and relaxing beyond belief. There are 'kiva' fireplaces in both the dining room and the master bedroom and the back bedroom has a beautiful red wood burning stove.
The kitchen has fabulous tile work, is fully stocked with Dishes, utensils, cooking ware (bring your own food) and is equipped with Stainless Steel appliances (Stove, Fridge, Dishwasher, Microwave & Toaster Oven). Although there is no TV reception, there is a television with a DVD player and there is WIFI.
Guests can access the entire house, closets included. Pool is usually opened late May through early September (weather permitting, remember we are high altitude and have 4 seasons). The pool is seasonal and solar heated so in the late Spring and Fall, comfort is dependent on the weather and temperatures. There is a garage for use that fits one car comfortably and additional outdoor parking is available.
Santa Cruz de la Canada is a historic traditional village north of Santa Fe. It was once an ecclesiastical seat of the Catholic Church and the site of a battle during the Taos Pueblo Revolt of 1847. Currently it is a rural farming community of Hispanic, Native and Anglo descendants. Casa de Catalpa is located on State Rd. 76 which is one of the main routes utilized by the pilgrims during Holy Week on the journey to the sacred shrine at the Santuario de Chimayo. You will be approximately 30 minutes from both Santa Fe and Los Alamos, and 45 minutes to Taos and other recreational sites in the Sangre de Christo Mountains.
This is not a hotel or even just a house, it is a home and needs to be treated with the utmost respect, care and love. There is absolutely no smoking on the property. While a good time should be had by all, please note, this is not a wild party house and should not be considered for such a vacation.
If you come with children, they need to be supervised when young. There are custom wall treatments and specialties that make this a beautiful environment and would be very costly to fix, so please, no children that cannot be trusted to know how to respect it. Portable playpen, high chair & sleeping mats can be provided on request.
There is a cleaning fee to get the house ready for the next guests, but you are responsible for your own dish washing, straightening up and general cleanliness. We will take care of bed linens and towels after your stay. Plumbing is on a septic system, please follow rules provided. Fireplaces are there for your enjoyment, please follow instructions provided and supervise children. Use is at your own risk.
Pool Rules: No Lifeguard on duty! Use at own risk, owner assumes no liability for use. Please be respectful of the pool as it can be very expensive to fix issues once they have occurred.
All children must be supervised at all times. Please do not let little children in the pool without the proper attire to prevent contamination of pool water. Please provide life jackets, swimmies or floaties appropriate for you child's age and weight. There are some 'pool noodles' for use by older children who can swim on their own.
Absolutely no glass by pool! Plastic plates and drink ware are provided.
Intoxication and swimming are a dangerous combination, please be responsible. Owner assumes no risk..
Water quality will be maintained weekly by owner, but guests will need to care for daily upkeep such as scooping blown in (or tracked in) debris. Please let me know if you would be interested in having this service provided for an additional fee.
This is a lap pool so it is only 4 foot deep, no diving please. Owner assumes no responsibility for diving accidents.
Exploration of the area will require a vehicle that will meet your specific needs. The country driveway is a bit steep so be prepared. Please let us know your approximate arrival time so that we can greet you and acclimate you to Casa Catalpa. Please let us know if you would like to hire a local guide to Northern New Mexico as we have a great connection for you.
