This spectacular estate perched on Lake Travis transcends the Hill Country near Lago Vista…whisking you off to a stately chateau in the heart of France. The column-flanked, tree-lined approach to the classic circular drive sets the stage for the grand home. See LINK for additional pictures at the bottom of our web site.
This 10 bedroom, 11 remodeled bathroom home sits on 12.6 acres with 800 feet of water front. Celebrating the natural stone of both Texas and France, the exterior and interior of the home features detailed stonework custom carved onsite by a French sculptor. Grand columns with custom Corinthian capitals, traditional stone balustrades and two-story waterfall adorn the entrance.
Before even entering the home, one’s eyes are drawn to the surroundings on which the house sits. Smooth lawns, formal plantings and spectacular lake views all add to the feeling of being at a European retreat.
An undeniable focal point of the entry is the large waterfall that flows from a massive window into a decorative pond, adding a soft ambient sound to the entrance.
Indoors, the waterfall continues as it enhances the formal living with the same waterfall ambiance, a step over river, and special lighting for the evenings.
Entry grandeur is continued inside the house, from the sweeping iron and stone staircases to the limestone arches, and dark-wood accented ceilings that carry you into the formal sunken living area. Creamy walls with stone accents and tumbled travertine floors create a cool, elegant feel, while a large two-story wall of windows captures remarkable views. An adjacent full service wet bar, and hidden wine cellar (with handcrafted stone walls) is perfectly located for service to the north-east outdoor terrace.
Escape to France itself from this covered terrace, with walls and ceilings cloaked in ivy. Ideal for relaxing evenings of indulging wine or retreating from the Texas sunlight, this terrace captures the best breezes and views, year-round.
Back indoors a formal dining room showcases mesquite-floors, a small European fireplace and plenty of windows to enjoy the views, it’s a perfect place to linger over a meal with friends.
Across the living room lies a study/office that transcends to an upstairs library. Custom maple paneling covers both the walls and ceiling, which features an iron-railed opening to the second story, flooding the room with light.
The kitchen is fit for a chef; warm natural-wood cabinets contrast beautifully with the limestone and granite accents. The spacious island holds an extra-large sink; an additional sink, high-end appliances and a huge walk-in pantry. An open breakfast bar allows the cook to chat with family at the adjacent breakfast room.
Retreat in luxury to the airy master bedroom, which enjoys lake views from every window. Cool nights call for a fire in the fireplace, while warm evenings invite a nightcap on the breezy private terrace. In the master bath, thoughtful details combine with elegant materials to make the space a pleasure. Two vanities plus a separate makeup counter allow room to spread out; a unique mirrored freestanding wall is an inspired touch. A glass wall encloses the oversized shower with 10 separate shower heads including an overhead rain can. Linger in the corner tub overlooking the vista, or splash in the walk-in travertine shower. No need to share closet space; huge his and hers closets with custom built-in storage mean everyone has plenty of room.
The lower level south wing accommodates four additional bedrooms, a billiards room, a full kitchen, family room, and exercise room. Two large bedrooms with walk-in closets and en-suite baths complete the second floor south wing.
While the inside is stunning, this home was designed to enjoy the extraordinary scenery outdoors. With sun decks and a crow’s nest balcony from the roof there is always a place to relax and feel the breeze.
Landscaped with a nod to a more formal time, the smooth, manicured lawns are accented with gracious walkways, cypress trees and a grand stone staircase leading down to the negative-edge pool. With the appearance of spilling in to Lake Travis, the pool is a breathtaking finale to the grounds.
Precisely situated and built to maximize the breeze and sun schedule, no detail has gone unnoted in this palatial estate. For those that enjoy European luxury at its finest and have the heart of a Texan, this incredible home offers the best of both worlds.

To Wendy and Paul
Thank you so much for having this facility available for my 90th Birthday celebration with my family. I am so grateful to have the loving family that sponsored this event. My Mother lived to be 93 years of age but was unable to enjoy her last few years. I am the last of my generation and to have three wonderful and caring children is so great.
Thanks again - this is such a beautiful property.
I cannot even begin to praise our host Kassy and all that she did for our ladies group to make us comfortable. The home was gorgeous, extra clean, comfortable, extraordinary. With 25 ladies it would be hard to please everyone, but this getaway was over the top. All of the ladies want to return. The bathrobes and slippers were such an awesome touch as was the welcome snacks. The view is out of this world, it seemed like you have been magically transported back to the shores of Italy! Pool and spa were super clean and some of the ladies even got in the lake on the supplied kayaks to enjoy the water. We felt very secure in the home and even the apartment over the garage was comfortable for the women. It was fun exploring and finding all of the different special touches that this chateau has to offer. I especially loved the covered veranda and it was used often! The heated pool and spa were perfect, as ladies are sometimes shy in public pools. There were plenty of beautiful features inside as well. The well-equipped kitchen; pots, pans, crockpots, coffee pots, dishes, and silverware were easy to use for every occasion; from a sit-down semi-formal dinner to breakfast on the go. Everything was provided which made it extremely easy to check in and just start enjoying the beautiful location. I have to admit, I could not find anything that was wrong with this stay except we did not want to leave! Over the top hospitality.
We also went to Fredericksburg, 1 hour drive, and were accommodated at the "Mamacitas" restaurant. Their flaming cheese appetizer is something you must put on your "to-do" list! One evening we went to "Capital Cruises" out of Austin. They accommodated our ladies on a private evening cruise, very affordable, including a full fajita dinner, with the beautiful sights of Austin at night rolling by, very relaxing and spectacular.
Kassy, the caretaker of this fantastic chateau, has stolen our hearts with her thoughtfulness and efficiency!! She worked with us to accommodate every lady's wishes, which is hard at best! We loved it! Would definitely recommend this one!
The house is truly incredible. Our group of 23 adults who came for a business mastermind weekend were not only comfortable, but blown away by the gorgeous house and all its amenities. Kassy was a gracious host and made time for our many questions leading up to the event, and was very thorough and responsive on site as well. We are bookmarking this one for our future events!
This was our 7th annual golf trip - 1st one in Texas. The house was stunning and plenty of space for everyone. Kassy was very helpful and Chefinthehouse, Tim McClellan was fantastic!
Food and service were great. Best chef in our 7 years of this annual trip. If we go back to Austin for golf we would definitely head back to Escondido Chateau
We had a great time at this spacious property! The house and views are beautiful! I would recommend this for reunions, retreats, girls trips, so relaxing and fun!
Exactly as the photos appear. Clean place that is a short stroll to the Lake.
There was plenty of room for 20+ adults to move around freely.
Kassy Acree was super responsive and helpful,. Thanks much for making our stay so enjoyable
Only disappointment was Pool not heating enough.
Thanks,
Reddy
The house and property are spectacular. My family really enjoyed cooking together and enjoying the water sports, pool and hot tub. The agent, Kassy Acree, was fantastic and provided us with all the information we needed to make our stay comfortable and full of fun adventures. We loved being under one roof, so we could be together and obviously there was enough private areas for quiet time when we wanted our own space. Diego was very helpful and eager to please whenever called upon. All in all, it was the best family vacation and was enjoyed by the youngest (age 8) and the oldest (73) and everyone in between.
This is the most incredibly private and peaceful property on the lake. (See video on first page of listing). Although we have complete privacy, we are only 10 minutes from Lago Vista shopping. The only people allowed on the property at any time are the people actually staying there. (20 max in main house and another 5 is the guesthouse is rented). We are very strict with our numbers. We are 3 minutes from Flat Creek Winery. In addition to our paddleboards & kayaks, there is also a kayak company that delivers. (Viking kayaks).
