Share in our family history and have a wonderful time at our bright period bungalow on the beach in Laurel. Five minutes from Mattituck's Love Lane shops, train, Jitney and vineyards, but quiet and serene off leafy Peconic Bay Boulevard. Swim, kayak, bicycle, fish and enjoy the produce of local farm stands and wineries. A large gas grill and equipped kitchen will let you entertain with ease when you're not out trying the North Fork restaurants.
The sunny front porch seats 12 with a sweeping view over the bay, while there is yard space for bocce and a shady spot with a hammock for reading and napping. The main house has two bedrooms. There is a futon bed/sofa in the rear sitting room, which also offers desk space if anyone has to work, taking advantage of the wi-fi. There is a large sofa in the living room, as well as a tv, books and games. A separate outbuilding has another bedroom, bathroom and its own porch.
Hummingbirds, cardinals and chickadees come to the feeders outside the kitchen window, while ospreys have been fishing daily right in front of the house.
New Southold Town law requires all vacation rental to be two weeks minimum. To accommodate this we've lowered our rental rate to 3k for two weeks for the summer of 2016, as we can't see charging a family 5k for their holiday. Please do not request fewer than two weeks rental. Thank you! Lauren
My family has lived in NYC and London, but we always return to the North Fork. I am a librarian and my husband an IT guy, so you'll find lots of books and good wi-fi.
Lauren purchased this bungalow in 1929
This bungalow was built by my family generations ago.
What a wonderful spot on the Peconic bay. My family and I had such a great time in this cozy little beach house just steps away from the water. The sunrises were spectacular. Quiet and relaxing! The main cottage sleeps 4-6 and in back of property "jack's shack" was perfect for another couple to visit affording them some privacy. We enjoyed the local produce, wine and seafood. The sports fans were very happy that the nba games were available on tv and the teenagers were happy for the Wi-Fi to stay connected. I was content to turn off cell phone, computer and enjoy the beautiful scenery instead of social media. Looking forward to going back next year.
Love, love, love this special 1930's bungalow on the bay. This is the kind of beach house where I can lose my shoes for days, perfectly barefoot and careless! Just what I look for in a vacation retreat...soothing, simple, rustic and restful. Amazing views and always a breeze wafting through the open windows. My family and I spend most of our stay lounging about in rockers on the large screened-in porch overlooking the sound and little swimmers, literally 12 steps from the beach. The kids can't wait to bike to town, especially for ice cream. We especially enjoy the outdoor (enclosed) shower - such a treat in the open air! An added bonus is the cozy guest house in back of the main bungalow, with a bedroom, bathroom and deck. This is my little afternoon nap getaway, but also great for teenagers seeking their own space. Another really nice feature is the private yard to one side of the bungalow. This spot is a bit like your own private dune with beach grass', wild roses, old knarled pines and an unobstructed view of the bay. We have often set up a big tent on this space, for an additional sleeping spot and for my kids to hide and play. It is wonderful, old fashioned, fun. I would highly recommend this rental, but frankly, I want to keep it all for myself!
Our family has been coming to this house for years. It is a wonderfully charming bungalow, just footsteps from the beach. The view cannot be beaten. Great for swimming, kayaking, water skiing, fishing, etc. Ice cream, movies, playground, grocery, fabulous cheese shop, etc all within a five minutes drive. It has a perfectly outfitted kitchen, outdoor and indoor showers, beach gear, bbq, and the best possible seat for sunrise. A truly perfect vacation home.
My family and I have stayed at this house several times over the last ten years. We absolutely love it. It's charmingly rustic (the house was built in the early part of the last century), and the screened in porch sits right over the water. The surf is extremely gentle (perfect for small children), and the views are unbelieveable (Sag Harbour is directly across the bay). The house is filled with family momentos. Shopping, multiple playgrounds, and a marina are all a bike ride away. I highly recommend this property.
Winery tours, nightlife in Greenport, ferry visits to Shelter Island and the South Fork, scenic villages, excellent restaurants, and all the beach and outdoors activity you want.
As long time North Fork residents we have loads of suggestions and ideas for any type of vacation, whether romantic, gourmet, family or sporty...
