Situated on one of the finest pieces of property in Sheridan County, our family's cabin makes a perfect retreat and gathering place. Approaching the cabin, the long circle drive leads to plentiful parking, garage and main entrance. Stepping out of the car, the first thing one notices is the fresh mountain air and the sound of the flowing creek.
The fully equipped kitchen and greatroom are the focal point inside while North Piney Creek and the wildlife are the focus outside. Sit on one of the decks in the mornings overlooking the creek and while sipping your coffee, you can watch the deer and turkey wander by. Walk the path to explore the back of the property or rest in the hammock reading your favorite Wallace Stegner book.
The greatroom has a high celling, huge plate glass windows, antler chandelier, stacked stone gas fireplace, 10 ft. long solid pine Amish country table, custom Ralph Lauren drapes and slipcovers chairs. There is also a Bose Wave for music, beautiful hand-carved German Armoire and two long down cushioned sofas.
The kitchen has everything you need for a comfortable stay. There are dishes and silverware for 18, Calphalon cookware, ovens, stove, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. For your morning coffee, you have the choice of a traditional coffee maker or the Keurig K-cup coffee maker. Just off of the kitchen is the full-sized washer and dryer.
The master bedroom has a private bathrooms and king bed. The other two bedrooms on the main floor have queen beds with high thread count sheets and down duvets. Each room also has a twin rollaway bed and bedding.
Upstairs, there is a bar area, dance floor and turntable with fantastic vintage records. There is a large deck off of the dance floor area. The fourth bedroom, which is also upstairs, has a full bed, two twin beds and it's own en suite bathroom with shower. All of the bathrooms have wonderful, high end towels.
The wooded three acres make you feel as though you are worlds away from the hustle and bustle. You can walk to all that the town of Story has to offer including Piney Creek Pottery, a nice little library, grocery store, coffee shop, gift shops and churches. The Wagon Box Inn has great food and is just over a mile from the cabin.
Pick up a fishing license from the Story Store and you are welcome to use the our poles. There are also some inner tubes for floating the creek.
Guests can easily take advantage all that Buffalo and Sheridan have to offer. Things in and around Sheridan we recommend are: The Powder Horn Golf Club, Big Horn Equestrian Center and Polo Grounds, King Saddlery and Museum, Trail End Historic Sight, Fort Phil Kearney Historic Site, Kendrick Park and the Sheridan Rodeo.
In Buffalo, we recommend visiting the Occidental Hotel, Saloon & Virginian Restaurant and the Buffalo City Park, home to Wyoming's largest free outdoor swimming pool.
Story Days are a fun local celebration in August which features a parade, fireman's breakfast, cook-off/ pot-luck, craft fair, concerts, horseshoe tournament, Indian ceremonial dancing and kid's rodeo.
Piney Falls Cabin and Story, Wyoming are the place to create memories and likely a place you will not want to leave. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
With a population of 900 residents, Story, Wyoming is a mountain community located 17 miles south of Sheridan, 20 miles north of Buffalo and only 6 miles from Interstate 90. Yet, as you ascend into the Big Horn mountains, the sights, sounds and smells let you know that you have arrived at someplace very special.
There are some neat shops and restaurants in Story, but the lush mountain landscape and pure glacial run off of North Piney Creek are what make this place so appealing. The trout fishing is wonderful and there are hiking trails which head right out of the town and wind their way for miles up into the Big Horn National Forest. Other things to see are the Fish Hatchery, the historical Fort Phil Kearney and the locations of two important Indian battles- the Wagon Box Battle of 1867 and the Fetterman Fight of 1866. The Big Horn Equestrian Center and Polo grounds as well as the Powder Horn Golf Club are a short distance as well as all that both Sheridan and Buffalo have to offer.
