About this property

HighParkHomes .ca Style-Comfort-Value Short or Long Stays

Go to HighParkHomes .ca for the style and savings of direct owner experience. No middleman. Short or long stays.

This detached home is in the Roncesvalles area of Parkdale-High Park, a neighbourhood that balances a hip coolness with a friendly vibe. It's teeming with the city's best parks, public transit, the lakefront boardwalk and beach. There are myriad galleries, cafes, clubs and the city's hottest restaurants along Queen West, Dundas West and Roncesvalles -- so it's no wonder that global media from Vogue to The New York Times focus on this neighborhood as THE place to be.

The house has 6 bedrooms and two full bathrooms with heated tile floors. There's an open-concept kitchen-dining room with professional appliances, slate counters, an island for four and a table that extends from 6 to 10 seats. The living room windows open on to a front porch that acts as another lounging area, to enjoy morning coffee or an evening sip while watching the neighbours come and go. The kitchen's French doors open onto a professionally landscaped rear garden & flagstone patio, where there's loads of sun and shade. Also, there's natural gas BBQ and a table that seats up to 10.

Glorious house, excellent neighborhood, perfect stay
My group of 6 professional women gathered for an October week in Toronto for a conference. Our stay at Big Mod Home was nothing short of wonderful. The house was perfect for our group: • Congenial, yet allowing for privacy • Ample amenities including wifi, excellent mattresses, comfortable linens, well-appointed kitchen, etc. We gathered every evening in the comfortable kitchen/dining area to cook, share our experiences from the day, etc. Mornings were equally great for our group. Outside of the wonderful house, the neighborhood was a gem: Family-friendly, safe, diverse, walkable, quiet. A couple of blocks away is Roncesvalles Avenue, with all manner of grocery stores, cafes, and other businesses. The mix of cultures, offerings and activities in the district is remarkable. There was even an excellent computer store that had just the cable that I needed. The nearby Sorauren Farmers’ Market was a warm and lively event within walking distance. Roncesvalles Avenue also hosts streetcar lines, with frequent (every 5 minutes) streetcars to Lake Ontario in one direction, and connections to the downtown subway as well as the airport train (UPX = Union Pearson eXpress) in the other. Get a Presto card and experience clean, safe, inexpensive, convenient and seamless transit. The owners deserve glowing remarks as well. In short, they are kind, warm, responsive, and helpful while remaining at a respectful distance. I hope my next trip to Canada is to Toronto, and I get to stay again at Big Mod Home.

About the host

Our family is the contemporary Toronto story: lots of history coming together in the most diverse city in the world. Mom is from the West Indies, Dad is from the Maritimes. Uniting families from the oldest settlers to the newest Canadians, we've built a home in a neighbourhood, Parkdale-High Park, that's become the byword for progressive, independent, entrepreneurial, and community-minded.

Why they chose this property

This is some of the best housing stock in the city of Toronto. Parkdale-High Park was the western lakefront boundary of the old city. In the wave of late 19th and early 20th century industrialization that transformed the Great Lakes, this area became a place to build a new, street rail transit base of family homes. Close to the city, close to the lake beaches, and the heart of the new dynamism that makes Toronto unique.

What makes this property unique

We love this neighbourhood because of the people who live here. There's a great mix of the creative classes and established business types, along with continually renewing waves of new immigrants - such as the Tibetan community in Parkdale. You'll see Buddhist monks strolling along the lakefront while hipsters zip by on their longboards.
