About this property

Room #6 We are only 30 min. away from "BASEBALL HALL OF FAME" in Coopers Town .

This historic landmark was built by early German settlers next to a famous General Herkimer Home in the middle of Mohawk Valley between Little Falls and Fort Plain. We are situated on the top of the hill amidst vast valleys and meadows. Our Bed & Breakfast conveniently located in close proximity to New York State Thruway, Cooperstown, Herkimer Diamond Minds,Ommegang Brewery, Erie Canal,
Saratoga Springs,Turning Stone Casino, multiple amusement and water parks, Howe Cavern and many many other tourists attractions. Our neighbors include Amish settlers from Pennsylvania; it is not unusual to see a horse and buggy on the local roads. We also are surrounded by friendly farmers who raise cows and sheep, corn and grains, and more. We make our breakfast from fresh eggs, milk and produce that we buy from these local farmers - our neighbors. This house was beautifully restored and furnished in 2011. Our guests feel immersed in an 18-th century French atmosphere as they relax and unwind. Hill Top Bed & Breakfast offers elegant accommodations, charm, the finest European hospitality and a fabulous escape for any time of the year. Special attention to every quest is the main goal here at the Hill Top Bed& Breakfast. We will provide you with peace, comfort and superb breakfast.

Not quite what I expected...
Having been born and raised in this area, I wasn't familiar with this location when trying to find a place close to family when coming back to visit. The address said Fort Plain, however it's in town of Danube, outside of St. Johnsville, not even remotely close to FP. Mind the location, as that wasn't a big deal to travel back and forth. The problem came from the fact that nothing had been cleaned in quite some time. When I entered the B&B it was pitch black and I wasn't sure I was even in the right place. After finding lights and calling the house manager, who was very friendly, she apologized for no lights being on. I had already found the room I booked, and while the description said it had a bathroom, while other rooms did not say they had bathrooms, I assumed the higher price meant it was a private bath, it sadly was not. It was the communal bath and shower, in the main hall, across from the dining room. It is set up like high school bathroom stalls. The showers had random shampoo bottles and soaps on all the shelves and cobwebs and dead bugs throughout the floors when you used the restroom. Now, speaking as a former farm girl who was coming home to visit, I wasn't too disgusted by the bugs because I knew where I was. However, as a B&B, I would expect it to be swept, mopped and dusted at least. Let alone climbing into my bed and finding my sheets ripped and bed cover blood stained spots. I was disappointed in the fact that as the only person renting a room that the effort couldn't be spent to clean even the basic areas I would have been in. The house manager offered if interested to use the showers upstairs, which I didn't, but I went to look, and those were even more dirty with dead bugs, old hair on the shower floor and dirt in the shower pan. I had lysol wipes with me and ended up wiping off and cleaning the bathroom counters and shower before using them, not because of CoVid precautions either. I informed her I didn't need her to make me breakfast the night before as I was meeting with family so I can't speak of her food or dining area. However, overall as friendly and nice Valerie, the manager, was, it doesn't compensate for how poorly kept the property was and what appeared the lack of effort went into preparation of my arrival. I was the only one there and knowing my town and neighboring towns, it's not a shock that this is what I got... just shocked they think they can charge that much for quality. Maybe @ $50 I would have said sure.
