If you are tall, or have a dog, or plan to spend ANY time inside - don't stay here.
This was the most disappointing vacation rental I have EVER experienced in my many travels to the east coast. While the description does depict that the unit is small, it doesn't adequately describe HOW small. NO WAY does this cottage sleep 4. It is literally smaller than a hotel room. I booked way in advance after looking at many waterfront properties, the owner was friendly and accommodating prior to the trip, and we drove a very, VERY long way to Rhode Island from Ohio.
We arrived very late on a Friday, to find that no linens or towels are provided (which is buried in small print and not obvious in the property description), and since I was traveling with my two young adult kids and dog, we brought our full size blow up bed, as I knew there would only be a futon and one bed. Umm...there was not enough room for the blow-up. We ended up squishing it between the futon and the kitchen cabinets, which was absurd. I knew immediately we would not be staying for the full 3 nights I paid for, but we had no choice on the first night.
A myriad of problems: hair balls on the floor of the bedroom. Hair hanging from the burnt-out light bulb in the bathroom. Front door light burnt out which, at night, is a huge hazard, as it's pitch black. We used our iPhones to guide us while bringing our suitcases in. The bathroom is ridiculously small. We are 5'9", 5'10" and 6'2", and there is no way any of us could have stood up in that shower. And the shower head looks like it was homemade from a juice cup (tiny). Shower curtain was moldy and disgusting. Bathroom mirror too low to utilize for anything if you're over 5 feet tall.
The furnishings are really bad. Stove is rusted and gross. Futon was filthy. Bedroom furniture was very, very old and useless. TV is tiny and ancient; no idea how it even works. Microwave must be lowered from top of fridge to counter to use it.
And the kicker: When we went out in the morning in search of another place to stay - which was awful because it was a Saturday in September with weddings happening everywhere - upon return to the cottage, we discovered the key we were left DID NOT WORK. The dock master had to remove the screen so my daughter could crawl in the window.
I slept on a gross bare mattress with most of my clothes on top of me for a cover.
Owner was unresponsive to my attempts to reach him - until I called VRBO, and then he magically came out of hiding. He was very hesitant to refund, but finally did.
Great cottage, wonderful location
Cottage was great, no frills but clean and in a great location. Nick the owner could not have been more accommodating. I will definitely stay there again.
