About this property

Mid-Century Fabulous, Spacious True Lake Cottage, Sleeps 8, on Hutchins Lake

Cute As The Dickins perfectly describes our lakefront cottage; the original Dickinson lake home. Come and enjoy all our home and area has to offer; beautiful clean and clear water, a mid-century gem with 2 bed 2 bath, 2 patios, dining El fresco for 8, kettle grill, complete with private dock and fire pit. 5 miles from Lake Michigan beaches. 2miles to downtown Fennville with everything you might need.

5 min from the cottage enjoy U-pick farms and farm tours, wineries, foodie tours and tastes, cider and hard cider distilleries all around the lake. Art galleries abound. Just a fabulous location, central to all of Lake Michigan, Gold coast, fun and frolic.

This lovingly restored, clean and fresh, family cottage home, features an expansive green lawn to the lake, plenty of land and water toys, a retro mid-century cottage theme, with all of the modern conveniences we have come to desire. And location location location! Close to it all, yet far enough away to relax and enjoy the peacefulness and relaxation cottage home lake living provides.

Knotty pine walls exude warmth and comfort. Enjoy a lakeside large bedroom with king bed and twin bunk bed, reclining leather rocking chair and TV, full bath just off bedroom hallway/fun retro mint green tile and fixtures. On the other sided of the house, a smaller bedroom en-suite, with queen bed and sm full bath. A third sleeping option is the queen sleeper sofa in the living room alcove, with a full view of the lake and 32" flat screen tv and WIFI.

Fun decor and furnishings make the cottage a joy to explore. The retro 50's kitchen is complete with original turquoise metal kitchen cabinets, 50's chrome dinette set, Kit Kat Klock and original boomerang Formica counter top with chrome edge trim. Find a fondue set, Revere-Ware pan set, Corelle dishes...all of the fifties fun with modern convenience.
The large kitchen features a washer & dryer as well as an eat in breakfast area, full size refrigerator/freezer, electric range, new dishwasher, microwave, drip coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster, aluminum canister set, and of course a cookie jar. Fully furnished kitchen...just bring food. We also provide 1 high chair.

The large L shaped living room features a game/dining table that seats 4 / leaf avail. if needed. 2 Large picture windows overlooking the lake, plus a full glass pane door leading to the lake, allow for a panoramic view of the lake and all that is going on; from fishing, sailing, paddle boarding, skiing, peddle boating, kayaking, canoeing, tubing, to the swans who swim by and occasionally come ashore. The warm clear waters and shallow sandy bottom of the lake, make it an enjoyable experience. You might even spot a Bald Eagle!

You'll find two outdoor seating areas; 2 covered, one open patio, furnished to enjoy coffee at sunrise or dessert and wine sunsets under the hawthorn tree; outdoor living at it's finest. The lakeside patio seats 10+ and makes picnics pure joy! We provide a charcoal grill for your outdoor cooking and a nice fire pit near the waters edge for evening bonfires and s'mores. Peace and serenity, relax and enjoy.

For those who like to fish, cast your line from our private dock, drop your worm between the rocks along the shoreline and expect to catch bluegill, perch, crappie or maybe even a pike, although trolling is really best for pike. Or charter a fishing trip on Lake Michigan.

Maybe it's just a sit in the sun you love...we offer that too. You are welcome to bring your own boat, with the public boat launch just down the street a ways for in and out. Nice private drive for walks, stroller rides, or biking. Bring your bikes along. Enjoy the basketball hoop and court and wooden swing set/playhouse for children, paddle boat and 2 kayaks. Yard games to indoor games...we try to have it all.

2 flat screen tv's, just bring your Roku, wireless internet services are provided. Pillows, fresh sheets and towels, blankets, and bedspreads are furnished, as well as a completely set up kitchen. No smoking, no pets allowed.

The location can't be beat. We are 1-2 mile from downtown Fennville with several great restaurants, a grocery store, drug store, hardware and lots of entertainment throughout the year. We are only a 5 mile drive to Lake Michigan if it's the Big Lake you'd like to explore...but of course much chillier waters and sand accompany a trip to Lake Michigan shore as well. You might find interesting beach stones or beach glass at The Allegan County Park or Pier Cove beaches. You will enjoy how quickly Hutchins Lake warms up in the summer. We are approx. 10 min from Saugatuck Douglas, 15 minutes from South Haven and Holland.

So much to do in this beautiful coastal area from fruit picking, wine and hard cider tasting, trails for hiking and biking, galleries galore, and quaint lake towns, just a quick drive from Chicago, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Detroit. We have many visitors from Ohio, Indiana, as well as St. Louis, KY and FL, Iowa, Tx as well as east and west coast visitors.

Fennville is definitely a 4 season community, so check out the happenings all seasons.
Stay with us while you visit your students or reunions at Hope College, WMU, Grand Valley, Calvin, Lake Michigan College...we're only a few minutes away.

We're a beautiful 10 min. drive to quaint downtown Douglas and Saugatuck. Visit Glenn as well, with the Blue Star Hwy antique and artist tour route. Circle Hutchins Lake to find Fenn Valley winery, Virtue Cider, Modales Winery, Crane Orchards U-pick, corn maize, hayrides, cow rides:) and of course Cranes Pie Pantry Bakery and winery for delicious meals and wines...the original farm to table as well as Gary Crane U-Pick.

Speaking of farm to table...check out Salt of the Earth...an award winning restaurant, right downtown in Fennville, with a wonderful evening menu...be sure you try the brussel spouts and hanger steak! Music weekend nights. Almost next door is a fan fav coffee shop and spirits, Root Cafe, who offers farm to table as well, and many wonderful bakery items as well as breakfast lunch and dinner menu, along with spirits! Root is a wonderful addition to Fennville, 10 yrs now, and includes an art gallery. Quest Pizza is new to Fennville with unique pizza offerings.
Many enjoy the Blue Goose, an American diner, for breakfast lunch or dinner...and a favorite for decades has been the What Not Inn at the corner of Blue Star and M-89, ...fun music Sunday and Monday evenings while you dine from a casual menu and the best coconut cake on the planet! We’re fans of the new Mexican restaurant El Jaripeo in downtown Fennville as well! You’ll love lots of great restaurants in Saugatuck/Douglas and South Haven too. And don't forget Little Store Pizza and more!

Those are just a 'few' of the fun features you will discover in this area...unique for it's beaches, hiking, canoeing and kayaking plus art, coastal living, and country farm flair. But all you really need for a fun and relaxing vacation can be found right at Cute As the Dickins cottage. Bring yourselves, your family and enjoy.

We hope to be your hosts for your next get-away vacation, and can’t wait to meet you!

Cheers!

Wake up to beautiful lake views!
We loved staying at "Cute as the Dickens" cottage. The house is in a peaceful neighborhood and just steps from a large, clear water lake. We had six people in our group and had plenty of space with lots of comfy furniture and areas to relax and enjoy. I loved the retro style, which was homey and well-cared for. A few family photos hanging on the wall shared some history of how much this cottage was loved. We were greeted with black and brown cows upon arrival, which was appreciated after traveling all day! Husband and kids caught fish in front of the house. They used the kayaks and paddle boat several times. My son played basketball everyday. We cooked meals in an inviting, clean and well-stocked kitchen and played games around the tables every night. The surrounding towns, beaches, restaurants, and shopping opportunities were endless. Kym provides a binder with all kinds of local attractions that was very helpful. We sat around the firepit and made s'mores one night (thanks to Kym who provided the ingredients and roasting sticks). The firepit was litterally a few feet away from the lake - it was beautiful! I already miss waking up to the gorgeous lake views, watching the family of swans, listening to the cardinals and drinking my morning coffee. Kym and her daughter Robyn were attentive, friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had a great vacation. We are already planning another trip back! Thank you!

I was raised in Fennville, and Bob and I came back to live here, after our marriage and a short 2 years in Troy Michigan, where we started our careers after college. The family & hardware lured us back, and we settled and raised our family here in Fennville.

I grew up just down the street from Cute As The Dickins/my grandparents home. It has been a true labor of love to restore the home and keep it in our family, as it has always been, since the 1930's. The picture is of one of our daughters, with her daughter, and 4 of our other daughters daughters! We're a family of many daughters and one grandson!

We still own and operate the local True Value hardware that has been in my family for over 135 years...and I retired last year from a local retirement community, as their Move-In Coordinator/decorator. Life is full, and sharing our family cottage, helping others make memories on Hutchins Lake, has been a true joy.

Why they chose this property

The location of our home cannot be beat. It's the best spot on Hutchins Lake in our opinion...having owned property on the lake and grown up here. Enjoy 75 ft of pristine, natural lake frontage, and beautiful sunsets from the shaded yard of this property. The home is much larger than it appears from the outside or pictures (we're working on this).
This location is central to all West Michigan has to offer, a quick ride to Holland, Saugatuck, Glenn and South Haven, and a quiet retreat away from it all.
You like Lake Michigan too? No problem...great beaches within 5-6 miles from the cottage... Hutchins Lake is a VERY clean, spring-fed lake, and it warms up so nicely, and earlier than LM ...you will love this beautiful find. Nice big yard for all kinds of activities and a playhouse, slide and swings for kids plus basketball court.

What makes this property unique

Location Location Location! Enjoy the quiet private lakefront neighborhood, and the proximity to all of the vacation activities you can think of in West Michigan. We're right on the lake...not across the road, or down a hill...just a nice easy stroll across the beautiful yard to the lakes edge, making it easy, and safe for families. The lake is shallow along our 75 ft of frontage, safe for children to wade and swim...with it becoming gradually deeper. We've added a play set for children, 2 kayaks, paddle boat, toys, and have provided all of the amenities to make your vacation relaxing and care-free.
We have left as much of the original '50's cottage' feel as we can. We love the pine paneling, and 50's light fixtures that are original to the 1950's remodel our grandparents did to the home. The cute bifold doors seperating the kitchen from the living room were something we all remember as kids.

Lala's huge lakeside bedroom with mint green tiled full bath just outside of the bedroom door; is pure delight. We've added a bunkbed and tv to this room that are a big hit. Who doesn't remember bunkbeds in cottages of the past? We've had fun furnishing with new linens while keeping the original wallpaper and curtains that match in this room.

The queen bedroom with it's small en-suite full bath, is just right, with it's built in dressers, and a nice closet to unpack your suitcase in to. This suites paneling has been painted the prettiest light turquoise blue, after being dark gold for years! Very fresh and pretty now, with the prettiest mid century white wood headboard, and tiny white leather chair. Furniture back then was much smaller than today's furniture.

We have many familiar retro dishes, and decor for you to discover and enjoy throughout. I had a lot of fun furnishing the cottage. The 50's kitchenette and game table are personal favorites...with a few family antiques here and there.
Come and savor this unique and historical cottage. I think you'll fall in love.
