I am a surfer, so I initially went to Club Marena for the legendary Point Break out front, but I was shocked by the luxury of the accommodations when I walked into the place for the first time. My wife, Anna, decided I was a keeper when I removed her blindfold on the 9th floor balcony overlooking the stunning panorama of the rugged Baja coastline before her. She was expecting “Baja” utility and instead she got “La Jolla” sumptuousness. Photos don’t do the place justice. The feel of the place is sole quenching happiness. We love to enjoy the sunsets on the balcony with a margarita watching the surfers carve and whales, dolphins and seals play.
The unit is over 2,600 square feet, so with only 2 bedrooms, everything is over-sized. The kitchen has everything you need if you choose to cook at home, though we look forward to eating out as much as possible in the incredible restaurants of Rosarito, Puerto Nuevo, Ensenada and everywhere in between. We took my brother and his wife on our first wine tour in the wine country just south of Ensenada last year. It was a great day trip and a wonderful time. In Ensenada, you can just walk around and shop, bar hop and eat or you can go whale watching or sport fishing.
The unit’s giant balcony is over 30 feet wide and has a gas barbecue. We are decorating with Mexican painters from Remedios Varo and Frida Kahlo to local artists. The living room has a 50 inch 3-D television with a DVD/BluRay player, 250 Dish Network channels and a stereo with iPod dock. There is also wireless internet.
The enormous master bedroom has a balcony overlooking the ocean. It has a king size bed, Jacuzzi tub, walk-in closet, flat screen television with a DVD player and 250 Dish Network satellite channels.
The second bedroom is huge with a king sized bed as well as 2 queen-sized self-inflating blow-up mattresses, its own bathroom and a television with DVD player and satellite channels.
Club Marena has two pools, each with a hot tub. Our favorite is the kid-friendly pool near the gym which has a pool table. The pool on the point is technically the 'owners' pool and renters are sometimes asked to limit themselves to the other pool. I have never used the 'owner's' pool so I can't really say. There are two tennis courts right outside the unit for your enjoyment. In the unit there are tennis rackets and boogie boards, some floating noodles for the pool, as well as an assortment of wet suits in various kid sizes, as our kids have out grown them over the years. There is a separate laundry room with washer and dryer and cabinets full of towels. The unit has an assigned covered parking space as well as visitor’s spaces if you have more than one car.
One of Baja's most famous surf point breaks is right outside your balcony. We spend hours watching the surfers carve. The photos just can't tell you how beautiful this place is. The restaurants in Puerto Nuevo, Ensenada, and Rosarito are some of the finest in Baja, From tacos at Tacos El Yaqui or venison and Margaritas at El Nido in Rosarito to Lobster dinners in Puerto Nuevo, you will have some of the best food of your life. There are day trips to whale watching or sport fishing in Ensenada and a delightful wine tasting tour through the wine country.
