La Salina Ocean Front House - Huge Open Layout with 4 Bedrooms / 4 Bath

Bedrooms 4
Space 5,500 sq ft
Property type house

About the property

4 Bedroom, 4 Bath Right On The Beautiful La Salina Beach

This large house sits right on a beautiful beach of the Pacific Ocean. Located in a long-established gated community, the house has two floors with 2 kitchens, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and a huge open living room. A cantina is just a few doors down, serving breakfast through dinner. Many local attractions are only a few minutes away, including: Puerto Salina Marina for fishing and boating, Baja Mar for world-class golf, and La Fonda for spa treatments and massage. Ensenada, Puerto Nuevo and Rosarito for shopping, dining and nightlife are about 20 minutes away.

- The Beach -

The La Salina Beach that the house sits on is very wide, with white sand. It is a beach break with variable surf conditions. Point breaks are to the north and south.

- Beach Side of the House (Back) -

The downstairs features a patio with two picnic tables and eight benches. There is an outdoor charcoal BBQ. A lovely cactus garden, with a glass block wall, highlights the ocean view. The master bedroom balcony provides some shade on a hot summer day. There is a hose for washing off after enjoying the beach.

- The Kitchen -

Enter the house by ascending a wheelchair-accessible ramp to the second floor and passing through the wooden double doors with crystal panes. Take a few steps and you are in the kitchen. The house is well-designed for large families or to entertain, and the kitchen is no exception. It has a large island with a gas stove and oven and a large exhaust fan. Additionally, there is an electric stove on the counter. The kitchen is well-lit, and well-stocked with pots, pans and utensils. There is a large refrigerator, microwave, drinking water dispenser and everything you would need in a home's kitchen.

- The Living Room / Dining Room -

Beyond the kitchen is an open space that extends the length of the house to the sliding glass doors to the ocean balcony. It is a large space - about 30 x 90 feet - floored in white marble. There is a nice dining table near the kitchen area, with leaves to make it bigger or smaller. Beyond the dining area is a fireplace with various couches and chairs. Beyond that is a 55" plasma TV with DVD player and surround sound. The far glass wall has two sliding doors onto the ocean-side balcony. Although this is a non-smoking property, you may smoke on the balconies or patios.

- The Master Bedroom -

Walking into the bedroom, on the right is a mirrored bureau against the wall, and then a sliding glass door onto the master bedroom balcony, with stunning ocean views. The balcony has a pink marble floor and low railings (don't fall off!) for lovely views seated or in a wheelchair. The balcony overlooks the patio and cactus garden, and is perfect for watching sunsets over the Pacific. The bed is centered across from the bureau with a window overhead providing views of the marina and down the coastline. A sitting room separates the bedroom from the bathroom. The sitting room has a well-lit desk, with great Wi-Fi signal and an overhead outlet. The bathroom has a tub, shower, toilet, sink and bidet. There is a phone in the room.

- The Marina Ocean View Bedroom -

The large king bed has mirrors over head, and a partial view of the marina from your pillow. It also has a full bathroom with a handicap accessible sink and shower. There is also a large flat-screen projection TV and DVD player in this room.

- The Downstairs -

Walk down steps from the living room into the garage area. To the ocean-side is a whole apartment with a small kitchen, living room, bedroom and dining area. Although not as well stocked as the upstairs kitchen, there are a few plates, utensils and some cooking ware. The living room has a fireplace to keep you warm in the winter. To the right of the stairwell, walking down, is the 'Maid's Quarters'. The 'Maid's Quarters' is a bedroom with no real view, also with a bathroom, and is accessible through the garage. Also downstairs is a single car garage. The driveway can fit two cars and the garage one. There is plenty of additional parking in front of the cantina.

- Additional Details -

The house itself is gorgeous and well situated for a large group or family. It is my family's part-time home, so please enjoy the art on the walls, and home-like feel, but respect our property. There is a stereo ready for a 'regular' (1/8' or 3.5mm) headphone jack upstairs and a speaker set for the same downstairs. The neighbors come down often. If you want to party late and loud, that's fine, but you should consider going down to the beach to do that, where no one will hear you. Fire works are tolerated, but please don't be popping them off at all hours (10 PM is a good cut-off) and do clean up after yourself.

The community of La Salina has a security guard that keeps an eye on the community. There are about 60 houses or so in La Salina. The guys in the cantina will help you out if you have any questions on directions, need to call a taxi or whatever else. The cantina has friendly staff, good cold beer, pool, shuffle board, cable and also sits directly on the ocean.

About Tad Coffin

I live in Southern California and get down to the family beach house in Mexico as often as I can. When we're not there though, we'd love to have you as our guest!

Why Tad Coffin chose La Salina

If you would like to rent a large beach house, close to the border, within walking distance of good food and drink, then this is it. The house is fully handicapped accessible as well.

What makes this house unique

For a beach house in Mexico, this place is huge. Great for a party, a large family or gathering of friends. The cantina and the marina are both only a few hundred feet away. The views are spectacular. The beach is wide and clean with plenty of room. Ensenada and Rosarito are short drives away, or you can ask the cantina to call a taxi. You will not want to leave.

Another Great Vacay!!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 5th year of renting Tad's La Salina home. And the vacation just keeps getting better each year. This house works perfectly for our sometimes large group of family and friends. We hang at the beach or on the patio most days, BBQ on the patio, stop by the Cantina in the evenings or for Bloody Mary breakfasts. And a few quick trips into Puerto Nuevo for shopping and eats. It is such a relaxing and fun get-away. We are already talking about next year!!

La Salina Beach House

  • 5 of 5

This house is huge! Plenty of room for 5 adults. Everyone had their own bedroom AND bathroom. The showers were hot and the kitchen was stocked. The Cantina is two doors down and offer good food and ice cold beer. Amazing house, town and people! Thank you!

Awesome needs improvement

  • 2 of 5

Positives: AWESOME beach and view, large house, nice owner, accommodating for checkin and checkout times, responded to emails while we were at his house.

Negatives: one of the showers didn't work at all, and since it was a decent sized group with kids we had to coordinate showering times/locations to accommodate kids and nap schedules. There are exposed wires and uncovered/unfinished outlets that we weren't sure if they were powered. The hot water is DANGEROUSLY hot. Not only did the adults get burnt by it, the kids did as well. That is not safe and the setting needs to be changed to avoid burns. The balcony railing is loose and can not be leaned on...the non-stick cookware is scratched and unsafe to use, and the overall cleanliness of the place was questionable. These are constructive criticisms that can all be fixed and they aren't because we are used to a U.S standard of life...most of us are from 3rd world countries and have lived in VERY simple/rustic settings.

I stayed for a night in this home in La Salina for my birthday in early May and it was a great find! The house is spacious, beautiful, well kept, nice, and right on the beach.. what more could you want? We were only staying for one night and the owner, Tadd, was very kind and accommodating to our wishes of checking in and out at different times (there was no one there directly before or after us so it worked out perfectly). There is a cantina just a few doors down that was super fun to go to at night! The people working there are very kind and welcoming! The entire weekend was a blast, I will definitely be staying there again! :)

Side note, the only thing that I would recommend for a larger group of people is to bring your own sleeping pads/bags if you don't all fit in the beds provided. He did provide two extra working twin air mattresses, but it wasn't enough for our group and the two other air mattresses that were there didn't work and the floors are all tile so be sure to prepare for that if you have a lot of people.

I'm going to start positive, the beach is amazing and the house is situated on the beach with a great view and easy access. The house has very good bones but it needs gutted. The wiring is not up to code, the balcony bannister is ready to fall off (the 2nd floor), hand rails are missing from the stairwell and iron bolts protrude from the wall ready to scrape anything near. Everything is covered in rust including the refrigerator. But the absolute worst part if the filth. If you want the "animal house" from the movie it would be better than this. The Maids quarters is a room which is not legal as a bedroom in the USA. It was most likely a tool or workroom as its part of the garage. You also need to go through the garage to access the downstairs living space which is the dirtiest part of the house. By dirt I am tackling more old food, dust and who knows what in cupboards and drawers and on the kitchen plates, cups, silverware and pans. Most of whats metal is not safely usable as its covered in rust. Its pretty much disgusting. I felt cleaner when I go back pack camping.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I will address your points, but first I will address a few details about your stay so that your review might be taken in context. You called and complained about numerous items that are clearly stated in the listing. You called at 10 PM, drunk, yelling, cursing, and demanding I immediately arrive. Despite the fact I informed you that that would be impossible and that I would have a handyman come ASAP, you continued your bizarre demands that I personally show up. You made it clear you wanted to be compensated. I was more than happy to allow you to break your lease and refund you for unused days. You terminated your reservation, causing me to find a replacement guest. Some 12 hours later, you decided to stay after all. You broke art in the home and did not inform me. Finally, you left the house such a mess that it took our two-person cleaning team two days to clean up. Regarding the problem you were having with the breaker tripping, I was indeed able to reproduce the problem by turning on every light, appliance and heater at the same time. This hasn't been an issue in the past as I suppose most people don't do this. I have corrected the issue by simply removing some of the electric heaters and replacing with gas heaters. Regarding your electrical problems, our handyman was able to arrive in less than two hours to reset the breaker. I offered to pay for you to stay at the hotel next door while the issues got sorted. Our handyman also explained that if you continue to run every appliance in the home, the issue would happen again. You did not follow his advice and continued to repeatedly trip the breaker. Regarding the Maid's Quarters, the listing clearly describes the layout of the downstairs. Regarding the cleanliness of the home, you called to let me know there was a problem, which I appreciated. I explained to you that I had had to unexpectedly find a cleaner on short notice. I apologized profusely and offered to send over a different team to clean immediately. I also offered to put you up at the hotel next door while they cleaned. You declined and told me it was "OK". I am sorry the house was not to your standards. I did make every reasonable effort to correct the situation. In closing, you angrily told me that I had "wrecked" your Christmas. If a tripping breaker and some dirt are enough to do that, you may wish to reconsider the meaning of the holiday. Thanks again for your review and good luck.
