About Sandy Hammack

We left Colorado for more solitude and a quieter environment in Southern Utah. We have been married for 30 years. Ricki is a kitchen designer and Sandy makes ever-green videos and whacky videos for fun. Hiking and backpacking are common activities for us.

Sandy Hammack purchased this house in 2013

Why Sandy Hammack chose Escalante

Due to high demand for our other Holiday Home in Escalante, La Luz Desert Retreat, we built La Luna Desert Retreat on the adjacent lot to accommodate larger parties with the same spectacular views.

What makes this house unique

We love watching the big sky light change over Escalante National Monument from the living room sofa or while preparing meals from La Luna's kitchen.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a freak snowstorm and lost power for 9 hours. These guests really went with the punches by making the biggest snowman yet in La Luna's history.

They also left La Luna sparkling clean after a week's stay. I want to thank them for being so considerate and flexible.

Wonderful place to stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 from MN stayed her for a long week while hiking in Escalante during Spring Break.

We day hiked Boulder Mail Trail, Golden Cathedral, Davis Gulch, Bryce Canyon and Little Death Hollow. We also did a two-night, three-day backpack at Coyote Gulch. This was our second Spring Break in Escalante and we still have things to do on our list!! The area is wonderful for hikers and the restaurants are surprising good.

The layout of La Luna is very efficient giving you everything you need in a compact but spacious footprint. The main space has a full kitchen, dining for 6, and a comfortable living room with a floor-to-ceiling / wall-to-wall window at the south end with an awesome view.

There are two comfortable bedrooms with a shared bathroom with stacking laundry. Shower is nice and hot!!! WiFi was very strong (important for teenagers).

The locations of the windows were very well considered in terms of controlling views to exterior away from the neighboring houses. Whoever designed this house knew what they were doing.

My wife stayed here for two days while the twins and I did longer hikes and she totally loved it. The contemporary stucco box floats above the ground plane from the outside and the south porch is a great place to have a glass of wine.

The pleasant walk into town is about a mile. Communication with the Owners was clear and easy.

Highly recommended.

A gorgeous home with breathtaking views!

  • 5 of 5

We took an extended weekend trip from SLC to stay in Escalante over President's Day weekend -- 2 adults and 2 teens. The home itself is modern and beautiful -- and perfectly designed! Sandy made sure we knew there would be limited options in town for dining in the off season, so we made sure to pack ample food. The kitchen was well stocked with all of the essentials and it was a pleasure cooking meals together in that space. The view, well, it's spectacular! And the night sky. Wow! Incredible hiking in the area ... and friendly and efficient tire service in town for when you get a flat tire on Hole-in-the-Rock road.

A gorgeous home and impeccable hospitality.

Great place with the best view!

  • 5 of 5

This property has the best view! I have never been able to see the Milky Way and it is easily visible on this property. We saw plenty of deer too. The home is very comfortable with lots of extras. My teenage boys appreciated the WiFi. I highly recommend this property.

Wonderful accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. Views out of main picture windows amazing. Would loved to have spent more time enjoying the green box as we called it but had too much to see and do in the area. Would definitely go back.

Ten stars !

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what a great place to stay and experience Escalante. The house was clean and comfortable and felt like home. We felt like we could be very happy living here. Escalante is a very small town and everyone we talked to was very friendly. We hiked to calf creek falls and took our boots off to walk in the water. Our stay was to short and we definitely want to go back to spend more time in this wonderful area and beautiful house!
