We are a German-Canadian family of 4. We moved to Vancouver in 1998 and fell in love with the City.
Our 2 daughters attend University in Montreal and Kelowna and they as well speak English and German!
Sascha Westendorp purchased this apartment in 2001
We love Vancouver! One of the most 'versatile' cities in the world. The area where we live is on a hill and you have a view of the mountains. You never really have the feeling you live right in the city.
Being so close to the mountains, the forest, the beaches and downtown is truly unique!
Our house has a lush garden for you to enjoy, the view of the mountains and a big park just 1 minute away.
Will not hesitate to stay there again
This daylight basement suite with it’s own entry was just perfect home base for my sister and I to enjoy our home city these many years later. Sascha is a thoughtful hostess, providing lovely details including chocolates and a surprise! It is clean, well appointed , convenient and comfortable! We will be back.
We had a wonderful time in Vancouver, and this little space was a big part of that. The hostess, Sascha, was warm and welcoming, and had everything perfectly ready for our stay. She even provided restaurant and activities recommendations, along with travel suggestions (bus routes, taxis, skytrain etc), was so accommodating of our two young girls, and had little chocolates and a miniature bottle of champagne for us. Her dog is a lamb, and our girls fell in love immediately. Plus, the tree fort and swing in the front yard sold them from the moment we got there!
Their back yard space was curated and cozy, and although it rained most of our time there, we could tell just how wonderful it would have been to relax outside after a long day in the city.
One thing to mention is that it is a very small space. The kitchen is more of a kitchenette, and while it has pretty much everything you need (sink, fridge, stove, microwave, toaster, ample plates, bowls, silverware, cups, and pots and pans) it's all in about ten square feet right at the door. The main living space is immediately adjacent to the kitchen, and is adequate enough for our small family of four to sit and eat or play a board game, but there is definitely not room for kids to play with any amount of energy. This is a space to retreat to, to bundle up in, or cozy together and watch movies/ play games. Which worked great for us, since we spent most of our time exploring downtown Vancouver, and playing at Science World.
The other thing is that the second bed - the fold out couch - is not really sleepable as an adult. The cushions are too thin for anyone over 80lbs to not feel the support structure of the couch, even with added padding from some supplied sheets. So small children work, but it wasn't going to do it for me (5'10" 165)
The space is a daylight, finished basement under the family's dwelling, and Sascha was on site the entire time we were there, ready to help with whatever we needed, but we never felt like we were stepping on her space/ time, and she never intruded into ours. The whole space felt clean and neat, with plenty of towels/ pillows/ sheets/ and even a few movies (the girls watched The Best Bits of Mr Bean twice :) )
We had a great time, and will likely go back the next time we're looking for a way to stay close to Vancouver (less than a 20 minute drive to downtown), but at an affordable price.
Nice apartment, considerate hostess, good location.
The suite was cosy, properly equipped and pleasantly decorated. The neighbourhood itself was very quiet and well maintained, the groceries were within the walking distance. The property was well connected to the City Centre and to the University of British Columbia. Sascha was very friendly and helpful. We (2 adults and 2 children) stayed there for 6 days and would choose the suite again.
We stayed here for a week and enjoyed every minute of our vacation. The home was clean and well stocked. This place is in a great location and easy to get to all of Vancouver.
