About the property

Beautiful And Quaint With All Modern Updates On East Fork Of The Little River

This Beautiful Cabin was taken timber by timber from its original location in Etowah County, Alabama. The cabin is pre-civil war in construction, it was reconstructed using the old mortar technique and then added on to in its current location. The Cabin sits on a private road behind a gate. Secluded is an understatement. It is situated on a bluff overlooking the Crystal Clear East Fork of the Little River, just below a waterfall which can be heard as soon as you open the door to the car during the wetter seasons. We have an inviting front porch with a cozy antique swing where many a book has been read in the fragrant mountain air. The Cabin itself retains all of its antique charm as you enter the Great room with its enormous original stone double sided wood-burning fireplace serving the great-room and the Master bedroom both located on the lower floor. The Upstairs is separated by a staircase that leads to a private spacious upper loft that contains two Twin beds and a Queen Bed. There is a fully functional kitchen with stainless appliances/dishwasher/stove/oven/refrigerator/freezer. One Bathroom Downstairs, with High Efficency Maytag Washer and Dryer. Flat Screen TV with Apple TV/DVD/Inside/outside Stereo/Xbox/Wireless Internet/Dish Network/Central Heat and Air. Master Bedroom overlooks a large elevated back porch and the river can be heard from an open window. There is a large stone hearth wood burning fireplace in the bedroom. The Bedroom opens onto a cozy screened in porch with a 6 person water therapy spa/hot-tub. There is a charcoal grill on the back porch. There are steps to the fire-pit and picnic area overlooking the river, and steps to the river itself where depending on the water level you can swim/float/fish/lounge or sit in the crystal clear mountain water. The house is about 10 minutes from Downtown Mentone for antique shopping/cultural activity/or fantastic food and music at the Wildflower Cafe or other restaurants. The canyon is also about 10 minutes away, and 5 Minutes from Alpine Boys Camp, Desoto State Park, Desoto Waterfall, and Lake. There are wildflowers galore and wild blueberries and blackberries and plums along the road depending on the season. Wildlife abounds everywhere. The Tin Roof provides a great sound to sleep to when it rains.

If this cabin booked, we have three, Fernweh-vrbo#666662 on the river, and Valhalla-vrbo#778417 on the brow, and Away from it All vrbo#480579 on the river. So check availability on them!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time and the cabin was perfect. I wished we could have stayed longer. I can honestly say that we had zero complaints about your place. The view of the river is great. We had everything we might need and more. We were able to eat lunch at the Wildflower, Leigh's favorite place to eat, and it was terrific as usual. Although we have never stayed in Mentone, we often ride motorcycles through the area. Your place is far enough out that there is very little light pollution, so the sky reminded me of childhood when there were very few streetlights polluting the sky.

I have already recommended it to several friends if they wanted to get away from it all, and I'm sure we will be sneaking away again, but maybe next time, for several more days.

Thanks for checking in on us as we had a wonderful time!

Great secluded cabin get away for our 38th Anniversary.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the cabin and the location. This is pretty far out in the woods but is worth the drive. The cabin is decorated well and has most of the stuff you expect on these trips. We didn't have problems with anything at the house. We enjoyed the location to Desoto St. Park, only 10 min. Very convenient for hiking and sightseeing. The house sits right on the river where rocks create a very peaceful cascading water sound. It was too cool to try the river but we really enjoyed the hot tub on the deck. This location does not have any cell service so don't expect any. They have phone and internet but we enjoyed not having to use any of it!! Our opinion of getting away. The last night we were there it rained a lot. I would recommend having a 4x4 vehicle to get here and back. The dirt road is pretty good but low cars will bottom out in some places. It would be hard getting out if too much rain.

Overall we will come back here again to get away. We really had a relaxing time and worked out better than expected. Thank you for sharing your great cabin.

We enjoyed a perfect women's getaway weekend right on the river! We loved hearing the falls from the porch, sitting in the hot tub, and the rustic cabin decor with the modern amenities. Total relaxation and a good day in Mentone :-)

Peaceful! Enough said, no highway noises, just the sound of the water crashing through the rocks!

No surprises here. Everything just as it was stated. Great place to get "away from it all." The fireplace was the best part. Brought back some old memories and "rekindled" some new. We will be back.

Montgomery, Alabama

Great getaway week for 2

  • 4 of 5

Well done rustic cabin. Lots of places to relax between the living room couch, screened in porch with jacuzzi, front porch rockers, back porch recliners, outdoor fire pit, or large stones down by the gently rolling river. Everyone can find ‘their spot’ to getaway from it all. Fireplace in the bedroom was awesome!

Perfect getaway cabin to enjoy peace and solitude. With it’s quaint little kitchen and copper sink, stone fireplaces, screened in porch with a relaxing hot tub, and the sound of rushing water coming from the water below, it was absolutely a wonderful weekend! I’m filled with gratitude for this little piece of heaven! Thank you for sharing!
