On the east side of the property you can enjoy a secluded area in the pines to watch the waves crash on the rocks in the cove.
From there you can walk across a small foot bridge to a hammock in a tree or a seating area on the lake, then up a short climb to enjoy the a birds eye view from our comfy glider.
Leading back to the house you cross over another small bridge situated next to our charming 8ft waterfall.
Both Jim and I grew up in the Chicago area and live in the City now.
My husband Jim has been traveling to the North Shore since he was boy and has great memories of his family vacations there.
My first trip to the North Shore was just after we were married 15 years ago. I fell in love with area immediately and never wanted our vacations to come to an end.
Becky purchased this house in 2012
We have been looking for the perfect house and piece of property ever since our first trip up together. Finally our dream came true this past year.
Growing up in, and living in Chicago now, we love the fact, that when at Twin Cedars we can't see our neighbors. That was very important to us.
We try to get to Twin Cedars every chance we get but in the mean time want to share this beautiful piece of the North Shore with you.
I remember vividly my first glimpse of Lake Superior right from the driveway. As I walked down the gentle sloping path into the yard for the first time, I saw a cute little footbridge crossing over a seasonal creek. Not only did I have a beautiful, walkable, ledge rock shore stretching out in front of me but a babbling brook as well.
As I strolled up the small creek bed lined with stones and wild roses I realized we had a small Springtime waterfall located just off the deck. This is one of my husbands favorite things to enjoy while grilling.
Inside the house is all 'Knotty pine' that gives you that true 'Up North' feeling.
This is a 1960's custom built house with lots of fun interesting features. With the updated track lighting you can either do some fine needle work and reading or have a cozy family movie night.
Both the Family room and A-Frame have fantastic views of the lake. Just off the A-Fame are a few bird feeders rigged to attract a variety of species and with windows all around being from floor to ceiling the bird watching can be exceptional. It sometimes feels like you are in your own tree house.
The Family room has a huge picture window that looks out over the deck and Lake Superior. You can see all the way to the Horizon here.
Always have an amazing time at Twin Cedars! One of our all time favorite places to visit!!
A group of eight of us law students stayed here for three nights on our winter break. Everyone was in agreement that the cabin could not have been better for our stay. It was charming, big, clean, and all around incredible. We were easily able to cook for everyone in the kitchen, there was a warm and inviting living room with space for us to play games at night, and there was plenty of space for all of us to sleep. You can see Lake Superior from the windows and it’s a quick jaunt down to the coast. Our group explored down there and at night were able to do some star gazing as well. A few of us skied and the resort was only a few minutes away. Many of us explored the nearby trails and Grand Marais as well. Becky was incredibly responsive and a fantastic host both before and during our stay. Any of us would highly recommend this cabin!
A wonderful, private place to stay, and right on the lake! We will definitely come back in the warmer months. Thank you!
Had a big mouse issue the whole weekend.
Totally was a turnoff!!
No toilet paper was to be found anywhere in the home. Had to make a special run for that.
The home was not as clean as it was when we rented it in the past. Disappointed with that.
Our family spent 3 nights over the Christmas weekend. Skied lutsen one day and relaxed the next day at Twin Cedars.
The place was clean, well stocked for food preparation. The 2 bedrooms and beds were comfortable. We absolutely loved that we could bring our dog of 12 years. She appreciated the views of the outdoors. Definitely would stay there again.
We've stayed at many cabins from Lutsen up through Grand Marais over the last 30 years. We all agreed this was our favorite. It has everything you could possibly need including a first aid kit for your dog. It's beautifully decorated and very cozy. The pictures don't do it justice.
The property is very large with a stream and waterfalls. It has a magical feel. We even saw deer walk across the back!
Becky was a great host and very responsive. We had to change the dates before we went and she was very flexible. When we got there, the fireplace wasn't working. We texted her and she had someone come to fix it within15-20 minutes.
We hope to come back when it's warmer than 12 below, so we can take advantage of the property. We can't say enough about this wonderful place!
In addition to fantastic scenery and bird watching right off the deck, there are miles of diverse hiking and biking trails that in the winter turn to cross country ski and snow mobile trails.
Just a 5 minute drive from the house is a beautiful water fall down an easy 300 foot path. Or you can choose from many other paths at the same location and take a moderate to more challenging hike and be gone for as long as you want. Many of the Superior Hiking Trail 'heads' are just a stones throw away.
For Downhill Skiers, we are just 2 miles from Beautiful Lutsen Mountain with beginner to Olympic style runs and for Golfers, Superior National Golf Course is 5 minutes away and offers exceptional views as you make your way from Tee to Tee.
