Cozy Cottage Near Old Town, Downtown, & the Zoo. (1)

Bedrooms 1
Space 600 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom convenient to just about everything.

This fully renovated former railworker's cottage feels larger than you'd think. The first thing that will catch your eye is the colorful front door and flower-filled window boxes. Inside the large open great room has an office area, living area, TV area, and kitchen area.

The bedroom is small but well organized. It has a new double bed that can sleep two, with a comfortable new foam-type mattress. New luxurious bedding and pillows will make you want to spend all day in bed--but you won't--because there's so much else to do!

The kitchen is fully equipped to cook for yourself or your family. There's a French door leading out to the back with a roomy, shady deck and a table with 4 chairs. Follow the new walk-way around and you'll find another seating area. Container plants and an inground garden abound.

Another great thing about this property is the location. It's right around the corner from the zoo and the Bosque Bakery. An easy hop over to Old Town and the botanical gardens and aquarium. Also convenient to Nob Hill, the University and the hospitals.

This address has a Walkscore of 83 and a Bikescore of 90.

A small dog is allowed but check with me first.

Check-in time is between 3 and 5 pm. There is a $50 late check-in fee for arrivals after 8 pm.

Check-out time is usually 9 am if I have someone coming in the same day.

If my calendar here is booked for the dates you need, check out my property next door: listing number 728477.

I offer daily, weekly, and monthly rates. $120 a night with a 4 night minimu, $650 a week, and $1650 a month.. Long-term rentals preferred.

About Blythe Camenson

I'm originally from Boston via LA. I landed in Albuquerque in 1998 and never left. I've been a teacher (I was in the Middle East all of the 80s), a writer, a house renovator, and a Realtor, now with two properties to offer for short term vacation or business rentals. I love Albuquerque and can help you find just what you are looking for to make your trip here special.

Blythe Camenson purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Blythe Camenson chose Barelas

I had just sold my last house--one that I had renovated and updated--and was looking for my next project. A friend had just put this cottage on the market, and when I drove up to the property, then walked inside, I just knew I had to have it. The next day I made an offer and closed on it within the month.

In addition to this property I own another one right next door. If the calendar is full here, check out the other listings gn #728477.

What makes this cottage unique

The first thing that struck me was how cute it was. I added window boxes, along with a neighboring cottage, and it became even cuter. The colorful front door, the wide plank reclaimed pine floors, and the bank of windows all around drew me to it. And the openness made this 600 sq ft home feel so much bigger. The private deck and backyard clinched the deal.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We This cottage is a little slice of beachy heaven in the middle of the desert. We can't rave about the space enough–perfect for a traveling couple, and decked out with all the amenities you could ask for. We were so pleased with the property that we extended our stay for 2 months. Our dog, Amble, joined us for this stay, and she loves the space as much as we do. Great little backyard, ample storage in the shed, and delightful landscaping for any plant lovers. We will definitely be staying here again during our next visit to ABQ. Bonus points: Walking distance to Java Joe's, Vital Foods, and Firenze Pizza (and all of downtown just a short distance away). Highly recommended.

This place is fantastic

  • 5 of 5

The house is adorable with all the nice touches to feel like home. The kitchen is well stocked with the basics and it is a very comfortable place for cooking and enjoying meals at home. The location is amazing. There are hiking trails, bike path, and a park within a short walk. It is easy to walk downtown for restaurants and nightlife. I felt very safe in the house and was never worried about my safety.

It is a clean space that is very comfortable and bright. If you are going to stay a while I suggest hiring the woman who cleans the house regularly. She does an amazing job for a reasonable price.

As far as your host..... I cannot say enough nice things about her. She is welcoming and very kind. She makes sure everything is in good order and available whenever you need her.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. It is a great neighborhood, close to the zoo, downtown, Old Town and just a few minutes to the freeway to go anywhere in Albuquerque. I do offer a cleaning service for longer term guests at a reasonable rate. Future guests should ask me about that. I look forward to your return stay.

Adorable, comfortable, and clean cottage living

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing cottage with a clean, beachy feel. The furnishings and decorative touches really made us feel at home, and the comfortable bed and furniture made us feel as if we were at a posh hotel. There are plenty of services within walking/biking distance, even though we did have a car. We made use of the fully-stocked kitchen quite a bit, which made our vacation even better. We were able to use the cottage as a home base and cook our own meals whenever we wanted. We couldn't be happier with our stay!!

Owner's Response: Ann Marie and Josh, I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. I try to make sure the cottage kitchen is fully stocked. Thanks for the barbecue tongs you donated! And it is fun eating dinner out on the deck. Although I love Albuquerque, the one thing it is missing is the beach, so you did catch that. I try to give the cottages a summer vacation beach feel. (Without all the sand!) You are welcome back anytime. Blythe

Just wonderful! Such a beautiful, cozy cottage in quiet, quaint downtown ABQ.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful cozy cottage!! Located in my favorite part of ABQ--downtown: accessible, quiet neighborhood! It was the best place to continue recuperation from a broken leg. BEAUTIFULLY APPOINTED with very tasteful decorative elements. The kitchen is fabulous! Fully furnished with Pyrex, pretty dishes, tools, flatware; and pans without Teflon, yay! Soft comfy bed, lovely linens, and the truly beautiful wood floors made it extra nice. After 30+ years away, I am still in love with the Land of Enchantment. My spouse and I were married about 12 blocks away 36 years ago this May. A UNM graduate and former dependent of a KAFB officer, I was ecstatic to spend time in this very lovely space. Thank you, Blythe.

Location, location location!! Great ownership! Highly recommend!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a great place to stay look no further!!! We stayed in this cute and cozy cottage for three weeks while in ABQ for work and everything was of five star quality!

Blythe takes PRIDE IN OWNERSHIP and it shows. This cottage is well equipped with everything we could possibly need for our 3 week stay and noticed immediately upon arrival how CLEAN everything was! The kitchen was well equipped for cooking for two and this small cottage feels surprisingly very spacious! The internet worked great, no issues (I worked from the house everyday). The yard was perfect (flowers were lovely) with a nice deck for sitting outside and was great for our dog! We found the bed to be very comfortable! The cottage is decorated in great taste and really felt like our home away from home for the 3 week stay!

The neighborhood is a nice older area with great access to Downtown, Old Town, Nob Hill, the Zoo and pretty much less than 10-15 minutes to most restaurants and microbreweries! Location, location, location!!!

Blythe was a great hostess and we are so happy that we picked this place! She was there 24/7 if we had any questions! Couldn't have wished for a better hostess! Thank you Blythe for your exceptional hospitality and we will look forward to staying with you again for future trips!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the great review! I'm so glad you enjoyed the cottage and the neighborhood. I do take pride in ownership, as you said. My two cottages are very important to me, and it's equally important to me that everyone who stays finds a clean, comfortable, cute and cozy cottage! And what a great time in the spring! The lilacs and tulips are all blooming and the window boxes have fresh flowers. It's probably my favorite time of the year. I look forward to your next stay. Blythe

Cute cottage close to downtown. Has everything you'll need!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this cottage for 8 weeks during my travel nursing assignment. The cottage is located between downtown and old town, giving me the best of both worlds! The cottage is immaculate, the bed is extremely comfortable, kitchen is very functional and supplied with everything I needed to cook my meals. There are a ton of cute cafes, hip coffee shops and a great pizzeria just blocks away! Blythe, the owner, was absolutely amazing! Always making sure everything was okay! She even took me out to dinner!!! Would definitely stay here again, I've even mentioned this cottage to fellow travel nurses because it was absolutely perfect!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. The cottage is definitely conveniently located. I love that it is so close to the zoo, sometimes you can hear the monkeys and sea lion. It's only a few blocks to the downtown area and the movie theater and just a few blocks in the other direction to Old Town. There are quite a few places to eat nearby, plus the Bosque Bakery, right around the corner. Thanks for the referral to future traveling nurses. I've had quite a few traveling nurses stay at my cottages, as well as movie crews, too. They make perfect guests.

Casita in Old Town District of Albuquerque! The only way to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The little house was very charming and comfortable. The owner was extremely kind and accommodating.

It was centrally located for our move and allowed us to access all of Albuquerque and it's wonderful parks and restaurants.

Moving is very stressful and this part of was a respite.

Thank you!
