Private, serene cottage in the woods

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was easy to find and the owner and property manager were always quick to respond to all questions. We loved the very private and quiet location. The cottage is clean and feels just like home. Mornings on the deck we often heard elk calling in the distance, ravens and the local cows and rooster. A private and serene setting, we will rent again when we are in the area.

Overall fits our needs well but.....

  • 4 of 5

As a fall/winter renter we really miss having the wood stove operational. It hasn't worked for the last two years.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry about the access to the wood stove. Unfortunately, due to several incidents involving the wood stove, we had to discontinue it's use. We will not be allowing it's use in the future due to the past problems.

Good stay

  • 4 of 5

Overall good stay. Pros: quiet, clean, well equipped kitchen. Cons: not much to do close by, needs a couch, lots of beetles inside (like a few dozen)- presumably due to it being cold out. About 1 hour away from Silverwood.

About Ken

We are a (he) Firefighter and (she) Nurse. With grown children. We love the forest and wanted to own a bit for ourselves.

Ken purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Ken chose Newport

We always wanted to own a secluded piece of forest someplace. We have family in the region and chose the Newport area because of the unspoiled, 'untouristy' nature of the area. We built this cottage ourselves while commuting to it 800 miles. It took 4 years to complete.

What makes this cottage unique

We chose to buy this particular piece of land because of the unique quality of easy access by paved all weather maintained road but still secluded in the forest (you can see no other home from ours) It is covered mostly by large mature pine and fir trees
