About the property

Large one bedroom efficiency with beach and fire pit.

G Mama’s Place is only one mile from Sturgeon Bay and minutes to Door County’s intriguing places and colorful events. Escape from your hectic world and recharge here. Choose to just settle in, or venture out and enjoy the delights of the area.

Not only are there the usual conveniences, Wi-Fi, flat screen TV, cable, VCR and DVD, but board games are stacked in the closet and a pool table ready. Amenities abound at this retreat for two adults.

Many restaurants are within a 5 minute drive, a short bike ride or a long walk. However, if you decide to prepare your own food the efficiency apartment is equipped to make preparation convenient. There is a refrigerator, microwave, electric fry pan and hot plate. It has a coffee maker and toaster plus dishes, utensils and cookware. A gas grill is located just outside the door.

The very comfortable queen sized, bed has newer linens and bedding.

You will know you are somewhere special as you walk the short wooded path to your private entrance. As you round the corner of the house and approach your door there is the sound of water flowing over the rocks into a large natural pond. Goldfish hide in the pond; humming and song birds often gather at the nearby feeder.

Mother Nature provides many of the truly unique amenities of G Mama’s Place. Potowatomie State Park lends another dimension to the water/woods view – a sea of green trees in summer and vibrant orange, red and yellow ones in fall.

You can swim or sunbathe right on the property. The water is quite shallow and thus tends to be warmer than many other open water swimming areas. You can use the old rowboat and row along the shore or even fish if you have your gear. If you are a kayaker and bring your own boat you can launch right from the shore.

Bikers and runners can begin their activities from G Mama’s Place. A golf course is close and likewise public tennis courts.

At the end of a busy day you may want to refresh yourself with a sauna. Its pleasant warmth soothes achy, tired muscles. It warms an over-chilled body or can be taken just because it feels soooo good! Towels are provided for use in the shower/sauna.

Mother Nature frequently provides spectacular sunsets. Not only are the sunsets beautiful but the mellow color displays that follow are memorable. The display may continue for a half hour or longer and is a time of peace and tranquility. The daytime noises of people and activity give way to the soothing sounds of nature settling down for the night.

The beach, composed of both sand and a few stones, is a special place even when it gets dark. The fire pit is available for bonfires and the owner usually has handy the fixings for S’mores. You can make your own evening snack over the fire.

Memories are made when you stay at G Mama’s Place.

Attempting to point out some of the special things about Sturgeon Bay and Door County is a daunting task. The county is marketed as a “place like no other” and that sums it up well. The diversity is incredible, considering there are fewer than 25,000 permanent residents in the county.

Food options range from fast food to wonderful fine dining. Fish fries are common but Fish Boils are a real treat.

The county has always been influenced by the Great Lakes with 300 miles of shoreline surrounding it. It is a paradise for boaters, sailors and kayakers. There are actually 11 lighthouses on the peninsula, including the last one to be automated in the United States.

You might be lucky and see a 1000’ freighter passing and you would probably be right if you guessed that it was built here. Likewise, you may spot a majestic sailboat or an old schooner, Pontoons, kayaks, small sail boats or Jet Skis are all available to rent. Charter fishing is available or bring your own gear, get a license, and fish from the docks.

There are an abundance of talented artists, musicians and performers tucked away in all parts of the county. Galleries are filled with evidence of these talented residents. Many musicians and performers retreat home to Door County to refresh themselves and sometimes treat us by performing.

The Peninsula Music Festival and the Midsummer Music Festival treat the classical fans and Birch Creek hosts Symphony, Percussion & Steel Band plus Big Band Jazz during their summer camp.

Outdoor music is scheduled often during the summer. Many villages host a weekly performance. Egg Harbor and Sturgeon Bay have the largest gatherings for these free concerts and bring in crowd pleasing performers,

If you are interested in nature, well Mother Nature smiles on Door County. There are 5 State Parks and 9 County Parks. You can hike, swim, bike or even tour a lighthouse. Bikers can enjoy miles of county roads with great scenery.

Peninsula State Park and Whitefish Dunes are two of the most known parks, but there are 3 others that are hidden gems just waiting for you.

A stop at the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay will certainly provide you with lots of information about the maritime history of the area and the lighthouses. It is well worth its entry fee. The Door County Museum in Sturgeon Bay is just the place for you if you are local history buff. It is small, excellently done and there is no charge. Located just a block from the museum is the Door County Library. Besides being a quite modern library, it has an art gallery that is well worth viewing.

The writer is a bit biased, being not only a resident but a native as well. loves the eclectic offerings of the area. The Sturgeon Bay, Door County area is not only a great place to be from but a delight to return to after traveling anywhere else.
