Perfect Retreat Cottage On Beautiful Lake Michigan

Bedrooms 1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 - 31 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath Cottage On The Shores Of Lake Michigan

Are you feeling stressed with your life; are your children driving you batty; do you need a bit of a time-out from your significant other; do you want a quiet place to read, paint, write, think, or just be; do you and your significant other need a romantic getaway? If you answered yes to any of the above, then our cottage is the perfect place for you.

Nestled amongst 10 acres of forest, the cottage sits on the shores of beautiful, picturesque Lake Michigan. It is small and quaint, simply and beautifully furnished. It has one bedroom and a fold out couch in the living room. It can sleep up to 4 people. The bathroom is fairly large with a walk in shower. Linens and beach towels are provided.

The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans, etc. Everything you need to cook your favorite meals.

The property is located within walking distance of Torch Lake Nature Preserve which contains many miles of trails. Walk, jog, whatever you like, you can do this on the road, on wooded trails or along the miles and miles of shore on Lake Michigan.

The cottage is located off of highway 31, a short distance (about a 30 minute drive) north of Traverse City. Just north of the cottage are the towns of Charlevoix (about 17 miles) and Petosky (about 30 miles). Also close to Harbor Springs, Elk Rapids, Macinac City and Island and numerous other small towns in the Northern Michigan area.

Nightlife can be around a bonfire and s'mores on the beach overlooking the beautiful sunsets, or it can be dinning, gambling, or clubbing in the nearby casinos. You choose the pace.

If you have a boat and want to bring that up with you, close to the cottage, there are two public boat accesses. One to Lake Michigan, and one to Torch Lake. Torch Lake is considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and if you have not seen it, you should. If you don't have a boat, you can spend the day at the public park playing basketball, having a picnic, and swimming in the clear waters of Torch Lake. All within walking distance of the cottage.

The winter is also a perfect time to be at the cottage. The snow is beautiful and there is nothing like a stroll through the forest trails as the snow gently falls around you engulfing you in a world of peace, quiet and a white wonderland. In fact, winter is one of our favorite times to be at the cottage.

We rent the cottage out only once per month, so book your stay early.

About Sonya Hebden

We are Tim and Sonya, married and living in Dallas Texas with our four children. We are both from Michigan and both attended MSU. We have vacationed in northern Michigan for the past 28 years, visiting family who live there.

Sonya Hebden purchased this house in 2008

Why Sonya Hebden chose Kewadin

We purchased this property as a future retirement home for us and a future vacation destination for our children and their (future) children. The property is so picturesque, quiet, and perfect for slowing down our hectic, fast-paced lives.

What makes this house unique

The location of the cottage is incredible. We love that we can walk for miles and miles (either direction) along the shores of Lake Michigan. The lake is always different and we love hunting for Petosky stones. The cottage is so cute and quaint, very well built and simple and elegant. Perfect for a relaxing, no fuss life style.

Great location, private beach, beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. The location is amazing for day trips to local sightseeing/fun. The beach was so, so quiet, especially on the weekdays. The cottage was clean and ammenities were nice.

We brought two young (3 and 1) children, so some tips for others: bring a baby gate, outlet covers, and white noise machine. The baby gate is needed, as the lodging is located upstairs, so a basic compression gate for the top of the stairs is helpful.

Something else of note: the bedroom wall is open at the top. We are lucky to have good sleepers, and we put them both to bed in the bedroom (we brought a pack and play for the baby) with the white noise machine, and transferred our 3yo out to the pull-out when we went to bed. We mostly hung out on the porch as they fell asleep, and then rigged up a monitor with aluminum foil so we could get down to the beach for sunset and still get a signal. The lofted wall made for quiet evenings... which we would have had anyway. We were able to watch movies/Netflix on the iPad in the living room without disturbing the sleepers!

The only drawback/complaint we had was that we were confused by the listing in terms of access to a washer/dryer. The listing says they are available, but it is only to long-term renters. Luckily I packed enough, but we cut it close with the little ones. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of!

There’s not a ton of counter space, so if you’re planning on dining in a lot, I found it helpful to make freezer meals I could just throw in the oven! (Also, who wants to leave the beach to cook dinner?)

We would definitely return, especially as a couple. And if we were to bring the kiddos again, we’d just make a few adjustments.

Thanks for a great stay!

Very private and beach access are the highlights.

  • 4 of 5

I would call this a woods view rather than lake view but it's a short walk to the beach. We used the outdoor grill a lot and enjoyed the deck. The 10 acres provides privacy from the highway entrance. We walked to the Nature Reserve along the beach and ate at the Torch Lake cafe which is a short drive. There's a nearby grocery/hardware/gas station in Eastport which is also a short distance drive. All in all, good value for the price.

Great property and great time.

  • 4 of 5

We had an outstanding stay at the property. The only item of note is that when you start running the hot water anywhere in the house there is a very fowl odor that is emitted, smells like Sulphur, for a short period of time. After the water runs for a few minutes the odor goes away. Other than that everything was perfect.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are happy you had a great stay. Yes, that happens sometimes with the hot water. We have had it inspected and have been told there is nothing to worry about. It is because the water gets used infrequently. Once you run it for a bit, the odor goes away.

Lovely cottage that is private and steps away from a beautiful beach!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a peaceful and relaxing stay at this property. Accommodations were perfect for the 3 of us! Nicely decorated, all the needed comforts, and such a gorgeous view on the beach. Close to Elk Rapids, Charlevoix, Bellaire and Torch Lake! We can't wait to come back again!

Private, fresh air, peaceful. Gorgeous sunsets. Water so clear that we saw 2 large fish swim by. Petoskey stones all over. Stunning.

Bozeman, MT

Grand Traverse Bay at its very best

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place! We stayed here before, two summers ago, and did not hesitate to select this beautiful cottage again. The owners are prompt and personable in their correspondence, and thoughtful in ensuring the cottage is well equipped for a stay. Our two children felt right at home. The beach and the water are classic Grand Traverse Bay. Amenities are within easy driving distance, but it was the seclusion and peacefulness we valued most. We recommend this property without hesitation.
